HDMI signal dimmer through Onkyo TX-SR706 vs. direct connection????

Thread Starter
I have a pretty nw Onkyo TX-SR706. I had a problem after 2 months with one HDMI input (cable/sat) not getting audio input (from a DVR or DVD player). I ignored it, because I had unused inputs.

I have now just noticed that the video signal from my DVR (TiVO HD) is simmer when it passes through the receiver, as opposed to connecting the HDMI cable from the TiVo directly to the TV (a Samsung LCD). Is this normal?
I would have though the signals would be identical. It's still a good signal, just not as bright, and the colors are slightly less saturated (which may be a function of the brightness issue).

Any help or advice appreciated.

Use the pass through option in the HDMI setup and let your display do the upscaling and see if that makes a difference.
