New 500M owner here. I was wondering how careful/paranoid people were about watching any content with black bars during early hours of operation. I've got a fairly extensive list of blue rays I want to watch with it, but since most aren't going to be shot in 16X9, I know this issue will come up. Should I be concerned about watching a lot of BD content now or should it be broken in a little more first? I've set the TV to use the "long life" settings from the owners manual, if that means anything. Thanks.

I've never done anything. I don't use the orbiter, I ignore Pioneer's recommendations and I watch what I want when I want. I used up all my caution on my previous plasma.
It looks like my 500M might be having the panel replaced. What kind of things should I be worried about or check when I get it back? Is it possible they replace it with a "lesser" panel?
And when/IF I ever get it back, should I be breaking it in again?

I just got mine a month or so ago and I don't worry about it. I just try not to leave the TV on the same content for hours and hours (mainly TV because of the logos). Plus I leave the TV in Full1 with Orbiter 1 turned on as well.
D-Nice just finish calibrating my krp=500m and I have to say that my krp-500m never look better. He (D-Nice) spent over 3-hours calibrating my set to picture prefect. He had a small problem with my Onkyo-806, but he resolve the problem and made the correction to make the setting right.
He is a professional in every way. After he completed my calibration he went over each report with me so that I had an understanding of the (before and after) reports. Looking at the reports I could see how much my krp-500m was off the mark. I though it was very good before, it is prefect now.
If anyone is thinking of getting the patch (ISF) and having their krp-500m calibrated I have to say go for it, and see if you could get D-Nice. You won't be sorry.
Now I know why he is call D-Nice. He really is a nice guy, and on top of that he is a Professional.
For space restrictions am considering a sounbar or even perhaps mounting the 5020FD below panel speaker(s) on my 500M. I am happy to ri-jig the brackets of the speakers.
Has anyone done this before? I searched around but can't find any reference to this being done (regardless of space).
RichB, you seemed to have toyed with this idea, any luck?

I just installed a 6020 speaker on my 600M, I'm sure it's the same on the 500M. There are screw holes on the back of the panel that will match the left/right brackets. There are no holes for the center bracket, but using some super strong 3M double sided tape (red) I can attach the center bracket just fine.
One problem is the KRP panels are thinner than their 5020/6020 counter parts. If you use some washers or a nut between the bracket and panel then you can get it to mount perfectly flush.

I bought the 111 speakers on and used washers to space them out.

kool, ty for the photos..... I may just have to give it a whirl !
How is the sound? I know the 600M (and 500M) put out less than the 6020FD (and 5020FD) 18W per channel (rated) ??

I haven't tried it with the TV but with my receiver they sounded okay. The 6020 speaker is rated at 18 watts max, 6 ohms. Even though it's very long I could only hear 2 speakers on each side. With the height I'm guessing there's 4 x 2.5 inch speakers in there. The 600M has 2x 9Watt amplifier, it probably matches correctly with the 18 watts required on these speakers.
The clarity is good and there's even a bit of imaging when I listened to it 5 feet away. I felt no bass/low end from it at all (could be from me cutting the back open to fit the 6020 stands). I just upgraded from a RPTV with built-in bookshelf speakers so I'm probably picky.
I'll have it set up next week when my stand arrives and can better tell you what I think of it.
I had my krp-500m calibrated and the picture looks great in isf(day, night) and pure but i notice that my SCREEN options are (gray out) dis-enable. I would like to get them back if i could. I like to have the side mask detection mode's (1 or 2) on when i am looking at 4:3 images.

Can anyone help?
The menus were locked by your calibrator - as they should have been, to protect the settings you paid him to create from accidental erasure.
The only way to re-open the menus is to connect a laptop with ControlCal to your 500M.

Screen options are not locked out by ISFccc modes; they are dependent on the Screen Auto Size setting. Change it from Off to Natural or Wide and the options will become available.
Man it was scary. I had to walk up the stairs by myself with my new 500 out of the box. I held it by both sides (arms wide open) and walked up the stairs. Did not touch the screen at all. My hands were on the plastic border and back of the plasma. When you need a favor no one is around. No damage done. All safe and sound

Functions on the Picture sub-menu are disabled when you select an ISFccc mode. This is a decision by Pioneer not the calibrator. If you're concerned about losing settings then you should use KuroReader to save them (a good idea in any case).
I'm not sure what your last sentence means but if ISFccc modes have been enabled then the ISF page is available via the internal web server.
