Idea for a new build, a sound cube!

Alright, so I've had this idea for quite sometime and I wanted to get your opinion on feasibility and practicality.

The basics is that i'd like to build a structure about 2 feet by 2 feet, a cube, and load it with speakers and car batteries. A sound cube.

The reason behind wanting something like this, is I frequently do camping trips with a large number of people. Now someone usually brings a small crappy boombox, or ipod speaker setup that they blast until its full on distorting and sounds like schmidt. I would like to upgrade this component of camp party fun by a lot.

So my thought was to build something that would be semi rugged (build the structure using pvc piping and milk crate mesh to protect the contents) and contain some decent outdoor speakers that could really get a party bumpin. I could put a maybe one or two 8" woofers into the bottom, a couple of outdoor speakers fixed above that, put in an amp to power both, and fuel it all with one or two car batteries. And maybe a small tacklebox with a lock that would contain the input cable for the amp, so u could lock up an mp3 player, or protect from the weather.

The goal in this is to create something using mostly used/craigslist components, build it myself (I have experience with fiberglass), do it for under $500, and have something that last 8-10hrs on a full charge, and makes people say, "holy damn! That thing sounds good, let's have a dance party!"

Is what I'm describing even close to being a possibility? I tried googling for something like this, but I found nothing. I'm totally ok with building something custom, infact, I would prefer it. Let me know what you guys think of this idea! Thanks!

yes it's possible.
Get a 4 channel car amp and use 2 channels for the speakers and bridge the other 2 for the sub. Something like this:

A couple of large deep cycle batters should get you close to the time your looking for.

plus this:

and when you get tired of being a clown you can sell them and make most of your money back.

its also going to be a lot easier to move than a 2 foot cube.

i heard those speakers they are loud and clean ( except they have no bass ).

i also heard a honda generator - it is not particularly quiet but i would personally not want to carry around lead batteries. and a 120V generator is arguably more useful than a 12V battery.

you can throw these in the mix as well:

in power applications batteries are typically used for operation on the order of seconds to minutes. generators are used to operate for longer periods of time.

if you do the math a car battery is something like 600W x 1 hour. so if you want to run 600W x 4 hours you will need four batteries. or you can use a single 30 pound generator. and after you ran the batteries down - what do you do with them ? how are you going to charge them ? with a generator you just add fuel.

Learn to read. He couldn't buy one Mackie speaker with his budget. You are also off on your math with the car battery.

sounds like a pretty cool concept, although not sure how to pull it off exactly. On the other hand, if anyone i hung out with ever said "holy damn, let's have a dance party" they'd be beaten to a pulp with large sticks.
