360 Faceplace fit in Middle Atlantic rsh custom shelf?

Question:
Will an aftermarket XBOX 360 faceplate interfere with the fit of an XBOX 360 (either a red Elite Resident Evil or white Pro version) in my Middle Atlatnic custom rack shelf?


I have a Middle Atlantic rack in my home theater with an rsh custom rack shelf for an XBOX 360.

I've been waiting to get an XBOX 360 Elite "Jasper" (in black since all my other gear is black).

I realize there aren't any XBOX 360 Elite "Jasper"'s on the market now except the RED Resident Evil version

I have also seen that you can get a non-Elite 360, but Jasper and buy and aftermarket faceplate, eg:

In either case, I'm wondering if the faceplate causes any fit issues in the custom rack shelf.

Any recommendations or thoughts?

If there is no fit problem, then I may just by a Pro or a locally available used Elite "Jasper" Resident Evil model.

I've never once seen a faceplate sold anywhere that differed from the stock one in any way other than appearance so you will be fine.

with the MA rack plate, and the custom faceplate, i'd just buy a Pro. i would recommend arcade, but i think it still has a white DVD tray cover, it can easily be removed and painted, but the eject button cannot.

Any negatives to getting a Pro "Jasper" vs an Elite "Jasper"?

I know the red Resident Evil version would be more expensive and -- if used -- not under warranty.

I have plenty of monoprice HDMI cables, so not worried about that being included.

I assume I should only by a Pro locally to ID as a "Jasper" myself.
I'm not sure if the Amazon Pro's are Jasper or not.

There are rumors of a hardware reshuffling later this year, with the 120GB sku going to $299....considering you are the most patient person on planet earth, you could always wait a little longer and see what happens?

only difference between arcade, pro, and elite is:

Color (both case, and drive tray)
Storage (256mb, 60gb, 120gb)
Included accessories (controllers, cables, etc)

jasper, falcon, etc should all be based on when they were built, old stock may be falcon, new stock should all be jasper.... someone said elites have been disappearing, i'm not sure what the plan for the elite is with Microsoft.

Oh yeah...how big/important is the 60 vs 120GB difference for gaming?

I have a 1TB WD MyDVR Expander for my cable box, so I still think it's funny how small the 360 HD's are.

Depends what kind of gaming you are going to do and if you need the space. Are you going to be installing a lot of games? Are you going to be buying a lot of arcade titles? A lot of DLC?

I don't play alot, or I'd have a 360 by now.
I have an old XBOX and mainly play when friends/relatives visit on holidays, etc. So not a huge deal.
Just wondering how much it matters.

Yeah I agree that the 60gb would be just fine in your case. I mean the vast majority of 360 users only have the 20, and although its painfully small, it works.

Well I bought a 360 Pro - build 6/6/09 - "Jasper" - 12.1A/150W PS last night.
Now just waiting for the face plate (ordered on ebay).
Now I need to buy some games and more controllers, batteries, etc.

I also bought just bought the cf faceplate,great price and ships free.I've been looking for a gloss black for a while but the only one I found appeared to have a white power button.I painted my elite faceplate gloss black but didn't turn out so great,I'm sure the cf will look nice.

There are aftermarket faceplates that don't fit flush to the system. Any of the "do your own" faceplates like the Transformers, NFL, or other swapable graphics will have a slight bulge to the front, potentially making the system sit funny in your rack. You could just of course avoid those faceplates and not worry about it but the Transformer versions are just really cool and I like the way they look on my system.

The faceplate fits on/off outside of the MA rack faceplate.
So, no problem changing it out.

its too bad you can't get a newer moto box, or a moxi.... they both look quite a bit better.


but your rack looks great i love the shelving idea on the rear wall, if there was an ecomonical way to do it, i'd do the same thing.


how is the noise isolation in that rack? i'm sure the cooling is phenomenal.

The shelving was designed by Rives Audio and implemented by my carpenter.
You can look at the Rives Audio site for quotes on plans.
I can't recall how much the materials cost, but around $3K. The shelving is angled at (I think) a 17 degree angle to diffract sound.

The rack is quiet except for the 360.
I have yet to implement a temperature probe(s) and readouts.
There are some vented MA plates on the rack and 4 top fans that are temperature controlled.

If I get a new cable box I'll need a new rsh custom shelf (or a non-custom shelf -- I have a few of those), so I guess I'll just stay status quo for now.

I don't think there is any form factor difference between the various Xbox 360 models. I know the original PS3 models were a mess for Middle Atlantic with their custom shelves, so I'm sure they are happy Sony is going with the slim. Before there were tiny littler differences between the 2 USB, 4 USB models, 40gig, 80, 120 etc..

I would check this place out for just the middle atlantic custom faceplates because I'm pretty sure they are the only ones online where you can just go and buy a specific RSH faceplate and have it processed and shipped out quickly. iE: aface, cface, sface etc..

I would be concerned about the heat factor putting a 360 in a professional type equipment rack. I know there's a good bit of space behind the console, but you've cut off any airflow from the front and it's really restricted from the sides and top. Not to mention it is surrounded by reflective metal. I would expect that the lifespan of that 360 is going to be shorter than usual.....it's going to be exposed to a good bit of heat even when it is not in use.

Looks cool though
