Good question.
I have been bitching about this forever.
With a 50gb disk, there is NO excuse whatsoever; use the entire 50gb (if necessary), put the "extras" on another disk.

Can it be some other reason we doesnt know about?

As an example, if they make a new colorpalette for Heat, they cant use seemless branching.

Mann is like Lucas. Once he tinkers with an old film, the old original version no longer exists in his mind.

Except in other regions. Miami Vice, The Last of the Mohicans, and Manhunter all had the original theatrical cuts available overseas.

Looks like this revised cut of HEAT is what the UK is getting, too, so times might'a be'a changin'.

There's always the possibility the added footage will make for an even better movie.

That's if anything is actually added. It could just be two minutes of footage cut out of the movie.

Yeah, that's true. I'd be surprised if that were the case, though.

Or Mann could have cut out 12mins of footage and added in 10mins of new scenes. We won't know til it comes out or more details emerge. I, like many of you, like the way the film is and don't think it needs changes.

I must admit I'm a little concerned about these supposed changes. I think I'll cancel my pre-order and rent this one first, just to be sure I know what I'm getting.

It's far more likely that the posted box art for the new release is just wrong. It's pretty common for actual run times to differ from what's on the box.

Very true and that seems to happen a bit with Warner as well. I think everyone has their panties in a bunch is because the first listed feature on the back says, "new content changes supervised by director Michael Mann". Who knows what that is exactly....could be a new transfer or a new cut. I really am not all that worried about it, honestly. I just can't wait to get my hands on it!

Yes, and it could simply refer to expanded "deleted/extended" scenes in the extras. It's not like there's any real choice for die-hard Heat fans, we'll buy it regardless, and love it.

I hope its not a new trend by the studios to increase catalog sales.

If so, then the question becomes is a new palette worth it?
I don't recall a lot of folks complaining about it in prior releases on home video...

Those that are going to BUY Heat will be doing so based on their previous exposure to it, NOT on some new fangled cut.
Remember, Heat has not been release before on BD and, apparently, all we will have is this new cut (not the previous).

I knew it. Mann saw our worries about him changing the movie for the worse, then went back and re-redid it.

The theatrical cut of Vice was available here too, but in standard-def only. AFAIK Mann has never disavowed the theatrical cuts of any of his films except The Keep.

Hi guys,

Just received HEAT. Will check it out ASAP. Note the running time is 170min. I don't remember what the original running time was (remember the new content changes by MM)

Thanks

Drool.

Must be nice. It was close to 3 hours from what I remember, if not slightly more. Please report back on the audio!
I think I heard something about them remastering it for HD. Hoping for a great looking disc.
I forgot about this one (how could I do that?). Looking forward to impressions.

I'm probably more curious about that than I am the a/v quality.
