Thanks

I bought my 55LH40 2 weeks ago with a build date of Dec. 09. I have My Cox Cable box connected with HDMI, Toshiba HD DVD with HDMI, Panasonic Blu-ray with HDMI and a Jaton DVD player with componets and fiber optic. Sometimes when watching tv I'll just use the TV speakers.

I have absolutely NOOOOO lip sync issues

I've noticed my 47LH40 that I got about 25days ago, and I just noticed that the TV hums.

It is only noticeable when it's quiet and you are close to the TV. Has anybody else noticed this? Is it normal, or should I exchange it while I still can?

Thanks

I've found mine hums but only when there is no source being fed into it. So for instance, if I have it set on component but the DVD player hooked up through component isn't turned on, the TV hums. Once I turn on the DVD player and it's sending video to the TV, it stops humming.

Yep, same here but as you said...only when close to it. It is likely coming from the backlight (fluorescent) ballast.

Best Buy got us a deal Saturday night for the 47LH40 with the LG BD370, an Insignia HDMI Cable and tax for under $1100 out the door. I was happy with that price.

Saturday, WOW Cable comes out to set up the HD DVR so we can take advantage of the system over Cable.

I hooked up the player to my USR 5430 Access point 801.1G I used to use for my xBox system, so I have access to all the online options and updates.

The only disappointment is that there is only digital optical audio out on the set, and none of my (older) sound system is compatible with it. It appears that my goal to set up a RocketFish Wireless HD Audio system would not work directly from this system either.

I have three questions at this point and haven't been able to find all the information here yet; there's a lot to read!

1) What are the optimum settings for what above described *Video* setup?

2) Is there a way to get the TOSlink adapted to a RCA system fairly inexpensively?

3) Does anyone know if the WOW DVR tuner connects to the TV by HDMI or Cable?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sean

I have a LH90 which had the same problem with blurry red text on black backgrounds via HDMI. Try these steps to fix: blog.xtrykr.com/?p=121

I was watching LOST the other day and noticed that I have super lag on the audio by at least a second.

I have version 4.3 of the firmware and I'm directly plugged into the TV (not through a cable box).

Do you think it's the TV or the cable provider? It's not all channels but particular channels like ABC and ION.

I have no more Audio lag at all. I got the samsung

FWIW (for anyone pondering a 42LH40 buy): the 42LH50 is currently $780 w/free S&H at Amazon. My POV: if that's the same or less cost than a 42LH40, one might as well get the network features (direct firmware updates, Netflix/Yahoo/etc) and the LH50's better-featured remote 'for free'? I did.

i just purchased the last 55LH40 my local HHGregg had today for $1100 brand new, hooked everything up, everything was great for a few hours, turned it all off, left to go have dinner, few hours gone, come back, turn on the set and the picture comes on for a second than goes black for a second or two, repeats about three times and then the TV seems to turn itself off or go into standby anyways (blue power light turns red)

it was set on HDMI1 input at the time i turned it on. HDMI1 is my Sony bluray player, it was off at the time, (keep in mind we watched a movie on it earlier today straight through with no issues at all)

so i turned the tv back on, and selected Component1 as input, my Xbox 360 is connected there, again, off and on a few times on its own then off....

so i tried turning everything off, then unplugged the tv cord for a minute, plugged back in, and it did the same thing one more time, but after that it came on and stayed on for about an hour...

then my wife and i were just watching normal cable (coax into TV, no digital STB), and i was flipping channels and got to one channel and it turns itself off again....so i turn it back on and its fine the rest of the evening so far....

now, any ideas what would cause this?

Cliffs:

55LH40 bought brand new today

Standard cable coax into coax input
Xbox 360 connected to Component1 input
Sony Bluray player on HDMI1 input
MS Zune dock plugged into USB port on side and AV2 inputs but no Zune attached to dock at any time
Toslink cable out of TV into Sony surround receiver (passes through digital surround fine with no sound issues or lag btw on any sources)

TV worked fine for a few hours, give it a few hour break, come back to find it is turning itself off and on a few times and then turns off finally, eventually comes back on, couple other seemingly random power-offs, now works fine....

any chance this is break-in or should i register it and call LG customer support now? the local HHGregg doesn't have another one to replace it with right now, want to at least make it through super bowl sunday...

thanks

Sounds like a flaky power supply but could be another board causing it. Sorry to hear about that. And good luck calling LG; I'm still fighting an HDMI audio issue since the firmware was updated back in December. Every time I call, they seem to act as if I had never called before. BTW, Geaux Saints!

Hi... check your firmware version more carefully. Version 4.30.01 and higher have the lip sync fix, version 4.30.00 does not.

If you need version 4.30.01 and are willing to risk upgrading yourself, PM me and I'll send you the link. Otherwise call LG service...
good luck,

i think so too, it went like this

turn on, screen comes on for a second, then screen dims as if the energy saver feature kicked on, screen goes black, power led's turn red, turns blue, scrren comes back, goes dim....rinse and repeat three times then all goes black and power led's turn red and tv is off...all on its own

well.....got up this morning to find the tv would not even stay on at all now, turn it on, the screen comes on and goes off three times and then the tv shuts off.....completely disconnected every input, unplugged for a while, plugged in and turned on, same thing, over and over

called up HHGregg, they told me to bring it in, swapped me out with another new one on the spot, this one is running strong so far, never got a chance to check the build date of the first one, this one is Jan 2010, firmware is 4.54, no sound issues or anything else so far

of course, the first one lasted a few hours before it started....so we will see when i turn it on tomorrow for the super bowl

I am using the 42lh40 with my PS3 over HDMI, and I find that when I set the Black Level to Low blacks get severely crushed. My PS3 is already set to output all HDMI settings at full.

Does anyone have any settings that don't involve setting the black level to Low, since it crushes midtones like crazy?
I am the new proud owner of a 42LH50.
First off..the networking abilities are FANTASTIC.
I have it plugged into my LAN and have already tested both the Netflix and watching files on my shared folders..in MKV format. Very Nice.

I am running into a little issue however and I would like to get some advice.
I have noticed, with some TV shows..I am getting some interlacing.
I sometimes even see it on a still image.
Now this is with Digital..and even HD channels.
I do not have a cable box. This is using the QAM tuner in the TV for decoding the HD channels coming in on cable.
Is there any way to correct this?

Try adjusting the Gamma in the advanced settings, you may be able to keep black level at low and get good detail.

Is the 'surface' of the LH40/LH50 LCD just a protective plastic sheet (that causes 'matte' effect?), or is it something 'actively' functional? I ask because I just noticed, while cleaning a fingerprint at the right edge of my 42" screen, that the panel surface is not at all tight between the bezel lip and whatever assembly is behind the surface: if I press lightly on it, it will rattle loosely in what seems to be a 1/8" gap the full height of right or left bezel; the only zone where it's snug is along the middle third of the the top or bottom bezel. Does anyone else notice this? Is it a defect, or _?

vwbmw,

I noticed that on my 47LH40 screen as well. It was loose in the upper two corners and other various spots around the edge. I went to BB and the floor model was very tight, however, I also inspected one of LGs LED tvs and it did have some loose spots. I have no idea why this is.

The 55LH40 is currently 1330 free shipping at amazon, very tempting.

The 55LH55 is "true motion 240mhz", but is a few hundred more. Don't know if it is worth it.

Just got the 47lh40. Picture showing uniformity and a macro shot of the pixels.
Trumotion is useless, creates artifacts but I don't use it anyways.

I finally found a reason for my Truemotion processing! For high definition home video recording using a camcorder. I was filming my dog, while he was on a leash, so my hand was all over the place - and so was the camera footage. I almost got sea sick watching it making the footage almost useless on the 55" screen. But I turn the true motion to HI and it helped with the shaking.

Best setting for viewing pictures?

I use my Blu ray player for slide shows and with each picture I will notice the image "blur/change" in various areas of the image. I have turned off a lot of the "extra" processing stuff. I wonder if the image is actually changing and it's not a fault of the TV. Perhaps by the Blu Ray player (BD-390) because it is sampling that image and creating a video from it?

Thoughts? the image source is high quality 5megpixal up to 10mp, with no improvement

Does anyone know if these panels are affected by the panel lottery like the LH30 are? I'm considering buying a 55LH40, but I really don't wanna get conned out of an S-IPS panel.
From what I've been reading, xxlh40 and up are S-ips panels.

Well, the LH30 were claimed as IPS panels (don't know about S-IPS), but supposedly after May 2009 it was random whether or not you'd actually get an IPS Panel, AUO, or CHI one... I hope that's not happening with the LH40 series.

That's all I'm inquiring about, if there's a panel lottery with the LH40 series.

I just swapped out a Samsung LN40B530 for the 42LH40. I was sickened by the Samsung panel lottery, even more so because I got the worst panel they put in that tv, a CMO panel, and it showed in performance. Motion blur was horrendous as well as off angle viewing, also suffered for major black crush.

The LH40 is a breath of fresh air. I am loving the 120hz motion perfomance, colors have serious pop and the image is razor sharp compared to the Samsung. To top it all off, i got a January 2010 production model with no lip sync issues at all!!!

Some more pictures of my 47lh40:

I'm using VGA ( don't have dvi/hdmi cable now) and noticed some ghosting on text. I have tried everything and its still there. Its not too bad because its only visible at 2 feet.

Some darker spots on the edges and corners. Only noticeable when a solid color is displayed.

Kill Bill of course...

It most likely has to do with your cable or the fact that VGA is analog.

You should get that HDMI cable, very cheap from places like MonoPrice. No reason why you shouldn't be connecting your PC digitally.

I set Hometheatremag to expert1 and Cnet to expert2. With no ambient light, I prefer the Cnet settings; less washed out, deeper blacks. With the lights on in the room, the Hometheatremag settings work better. Here are a couple pictures from the recommended dark room environment:
