Chris:

I am trying to do the install justice, I am trying to post pictures. The closed status with all four LED panels hidden is the money shot, it allows a 14' 2.35-2.50 cinemasope experience in an 18' wide room .I need to give a tremendous shout out to Chad and Brian, I had a design idea and Brian Engineered with Chad. I never thought this could actually be implemented. I need to also post video.

This has to be the ultimate Man-Cave and perhaps warrants an entire new thread.

Here goes an over-simplification:

1)2.35-2.50 14' CIA
2)1.78-1.85 12' CIA
3)3D TripleFlash 1.78-2.50: 12'-14'
4)12' 1.78 with Quad 40" displays

Are these 12bit projectors?

I believe the high bandwidth 3D DVI input accepts 16 Bit

Here is a panaramic picture of LED's closed, Screen masked to 1.78

Here is panaramic picture of LED's open, Screen masked to 1.78

Here is a picture of the left side of screen lite up to show 5" of clearance for Led's, this was part of the challenge for each side of screen, also the screen opens up and masks to 14' wide and the Led's are nicely tucked away and covered in Black velvet so they disapear

Now that's a man cave. Awesome!

We have been having bulb failures at 500 hours at the Titan Reference we installed 18 months ago or so..The last 2 were replaced by DPI under some sort of recall or known defect issue. Sent them the serial numbers etc. Now another one seems to have died at about 500 hours. The projector doesn't seem to be getting hot at all. Anyone else have any insight into this issue? Thanks
post #669 of 697
Same thing happened to us, just replaced one of the lamps at 600 hours- replaced by DPI for free. I was never told anything about it being a known issue- but had to figure they had a bad run of lamps since they are past the warranty period. Considering the cost of the lamp modules, I think it's pretty stand-up of them to replace no questions asked instead of selling replacements pro-rated.

Overall, I'm really happy I chose DPI as my projector line- they have been great since day one for us!

Pink horizontal lines just appeared on all sources and every input of my Titan, any ideas what this is? I have tried hard reboot of Titan....

Shutdown, then try unplugging it, wait a minute for any caps to discharge, then restart.

Unfortunately that did not fix this issue, thanks for trying

We had yellow vertical bars on another Titan and it turned out to be the Blue formatter board. Sent it in to DPI and they replaced with B stock formatter. Set has been working fine since.

Thanks DDingle, Was that board field installable or did the projector need to be sent back to DPI?
It had to be sent in to DPI for repair. Kind of a hassle, but it didn't take too long as I recall. They updated the firmware while it was being serviced as well.

Only 2 suggestions without having to swap internal hadrware. 1. You probably already tried a factory reset (and I'm not convinced it would do anything anyway), but it's something their support would have you try.

2. How many hours are on the current lamp? If you have a backup set, try swapping it in. I know that sounds odd, but I have seen Titans do some odd things with a bad lamp in them. Odd things like losing sync on HDMI and video anomalies as if you had a bad board or cable. Sure enough, I found a lamp on the older side, and once replacing it the problem completely went away. It's a long shot, but all I can think of without getting into bad hardware (I'm sure you already eliminated the cable as a possibility anyway). Bad lamps occasionally cause them to do strange things that seem unrelated to common lamp related issues. And yet changing the lamp fixes it. So it's an easy thing to try if you keep an extra set.

MovieTime

Thanks, I will swap the lamps and see if that does anything...

Isn't yours a dual lamp like ours? Do you run both at the same time or alternate? If there's service needed; Mark Stephens is the man at DPI, but he has a protege that's female and is super sharp I just can't remember her name.

Yes. Dual lamps, both at same time 100 percent , I have email into mark already hoping there was a simple solution I missed

So does it happen with any lamp setting?

I'm going to point to your DVI input board. Maybe try input 8 and see if it's still there. Also, if you open the chassis the dvi input has like a 9' long dvi cable connecting it to the circuitry down the line- might want to try replacing that.

Dan:

Thanks for all you assistance,I have tried changing lamp settings to lamp1 only to lamp 2 only to alternate no help...I am using input 8 DVI, but have gone through each and every input 1-8 and even though sources are not connected the pink line/band appears.

I am really hoping I can get a in house technician rather than shipping unit back. Shipping the unit back will involve all sorts of other problems I am hoping to avoid.

I will try replacing the lamp modules today as I recently installed new lamp modules about a week ago and am now hoping the issue relates to that.

Dan, Mark got back to me early this morning and suggested I pass this on to technical support, AN RMA number was issued and I am trying to get an on site service call. The technician felt it is a light engine issue.

I was just advised the unit needs to be packed up and shipped back, not very happy
post #686 of 697
I wish I could say that suprises me, but it doesn't.
Sorry to hear that. No way the light engine would be field serviceable far as I've ever heard. Interesting that we just had a light engine failure on another one of their smaller units recently that went back for repair as well. My understanding is that it's a pretty rare issue. In our case it was speckling and dead pixels all around the perimeter of the screen. I hope your projector is still under warranty... that's probably an expensive repair.
The good news is it's an easy to diagnose issue and is usually turned around fast.... not something they have to troubleshoot or try to reproduce. We had our unit on the way back already within just a few days of it arriving at their facility, so the turn around was quick.
That is the one biggest advantage to the DCI platform. Just about every part in the projector can be easily swapped on site anytime and anywhere. Even the entire light engine. I really hate to hear that, and I also hope it's under warranty.

I was hoping DPI would be able to get someone out to you to fix it. That's really disappointing. Not to mention the effort it takes to move that heavy thing around!

More than the weight its re-setting the geometry, focus, alignment, overscan, zoom, and lens shift for the different aspect ratios. These setting always present a challenge. The projector sits on a pedestal and is impossible to place back into exact location. Its a real shame because all parts of the projector are accessible without moving it.

I am always concerned about handling of the projector once it leaves my house and is with fedex, the projector has near perfect convergence but once its put into a shippers hand all bets are off.
I totally agree. Ups and FedEx aren't exactly careful. The last time my Titan had to go in for service I actually took it to Atlanta myself. But Panama City to Atlanta is alot closer than you are. And it sucks to have to reset all the lens memories and aspect ratios. I feel for ya!

I'm still not sure what has to be done at the shop vs your house. Sounds like to me just a convenience for them.

They need to offer some sort of premium care services like Runco.
