Titan 1080P 3D Dual Ultra Thread - Page 24

I hope you kept the original box and packaging, that's always a good idea even though it takes up a ton of space. It's the safest way to ship it back. Usually on a pallet and air freight helps insure it's taken care of better. I'm sure you'll be insuring it for full value as well.
If you don't have that packaging, I would bet you could order the box and foam from DPI so you could ship it back that way. I have done that before. That should be pretty inexpensive all things considered. Any time I have to ship high end gear, I always try to order original packaging sets from the manufacturer instead of trying to have UPS or FEDEX wrap the hell out of it with all kinds of bubble and peanuts and hope for the best.

I'll actually disagree with factory packaging. DPI ships their demo projectors in large Pelican cases or ATA flight cases with the foam inserts. At least you don't need to ship the lens; just shut the shutter and insert the foam plug that it was shipped with.
Those cases add serious weight, but when the investment is that much...who cares.

Stupid phone; sorry for the double post

No argument here, if you have a Pelican case that's a way to go for road warriors. They are much more expensive than a box and packaging though, so not everyone would buy something like this to ship their projector for repair one time. At least I would hope it doesn't break down so often that a case is worth the investment. ; ) By all means, if you have it, use it. In absence of a local dealer or DPI rep that has one you can use, the factory packaging isn't bad. That's how DPI ships them out via freight on original purchase and I haven't ever received one DOA due to package/shipping yet.

Lon: I recommend using a white glove freight service. Team Air is one DPI uses, 800-875-7723. YOu can probably get DPI to give you a contact to use their std shipping discount. IMO, it will be safer traveling that way. It will go from truck to them with minimal handling on a pallet. As opposed to a trip through the sorting conveyer systems adn hand handling (and dropping) with a common carrier.

Thanks guys for all your input, I am going to use Scott's advice and use Team Air white glove service. Its is all packed up in original carton and foam from DPI.

My biggest concern is not breakage but convergence getting jolted. No choice though as DPI said no on site service.

I would expect a little more effort in the service of a $90K projector, then pack it up and ship it back.

So what's the verdict?

Have they looked at it yet?

Dan:

I have been told the technicians have addressed a potential formatter issue and a loose lens mount issue. I have not been advised a completion time.....

The projector was received by DPI 5/16, I do not know if they have identified the issue, and are waiting for part/s, or if they have not identified the issue and are still trouble shooting. I have asked several specific questions and have only received vague general answers. I have put in a call to technical services manager to try and get a more specific answer.

Titan needed just a Green 1080P formatter, cost fo repair was less than $1,400 Very Very Very reasonable being I am out of warranty. They also updated and replaced Power Loom, and also updated 3D FW to version 1B. All in all very happy with service...

Will have Titan back by Wednesday

BTW, great diagnosis DDingle!!!

Hi LJG
Hope you have your projector back. I was wondering what kind of set up you have for 3D on your Titan. I happened to have ownership of a Titan Ref dual lamp 3D. I got the 3D emitter from Xpand and glasses. Connected everything but for some reason no 3d sync. I am using lumagen xe 3D, and on input 8 and 3 both shows frame sequential output but getting no 3d sync from emitter. What do you use for 3D? What are the settings on 3D menu? any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have a Titan ref 3d but I haven't used it in a while since I upgraded to my Barco. I fed my Lumagen to my Titan with output 1 going to both input 3 and input 8 thru an hdmi splitter. The other output from the Lumagen goes to my anthem.

Input 3 is used for SBS or T/B 3D content. Ie directv tv. Input 8 is used for Framepacked. Ie 3D bluray.

You shouldn't be using frame sequential output on the Lumagen.

Lon can prob tell you the exact setting cause its been a while since I have used my Titan. But I know 3d consumer will work for auto detecting Framepacked bluray. Then I think I used 3D professional for all SbS or T/B sources and selected the appropriate format and the I outputted all those formats from the Lumagen at 1080p.

Thank you for the fast reply. When I tried to do Frame packed on input 8 I am only getting half the frame on the screen. Isn't the projector supposed to do some processing and show the output as full frames (frame sequential) so that the glasses can show each frame to each eye? Am I doing some thing wrong here?

Tekkumala:

I am using Real D emitter and glasses

Set the Radiance to output 3D mode 1080i60 and 720P
> 1080P SbyS for directv

Set the Radiance to output 3D mode 1080P24
>1080P24 FrmP for 3D bluray

Set the Titan to 3D mode professional and assuming all 3d sources are fed through DVI input 8

For Frame packed:

3D input assign to 8 DVI
3D format Frame Packed
output shuttering X3

For directv side by side

3d mode professional
3d input assign to dvi 8
3d format side by side
output shuttering 1x

Thank you for the reply. How do you connect the reald emitter to the projector? The projector has DB9 sync out but the RealD has a miniDIN connector. Do they have a cable for the Titan? which emitter are you using(model #)? Could you please check and see which version of the firmware and software the projector is using? I am trying to see if there is any thing wrong with the projector itself. Sorry for all the questions., just trying to get info from users that are familiar with the projector rather than calling tech support.

Good news, I finally got my titan 3d working. I had the xpand emitter and cables and glasses. One of the cables was bad and they replaced it . Now everything works fine. Thanks for the help with 3d settings everybody.
