new ED A7s-650 - 1300 watt dual 13's - Page 7

The A7-650 looks soo cool. I would probably do a couple of DIY ones, but for one I like to use my subs as an end table and two the wife would never pass a 215lb sub. Three the WAF on finishing my own sub would probably not look good, the sub must look nice if I would try to finish it myself (but I would be unsuccessful).

The design and size of the 650 would actually be beneficial in my particular setup. Going up rather than out.

We currently have products being prepped to receive the bamboo veneer finish. Pictures of the finish will be coming soon.

Thanks.

Your Kit Will Include:
1 Quantity: LT/1300 with no Subsonic Filter 1200watts RMS @ 12 Hz.

You are correct, I checked the amp specs on the Ed forum and it is modified the same as the A72-650. So for a grand, this is one good deal!

Built In 1300w Amplifier Your A7s-650 comes with a Elemental Designs LT/1300 Amplifier. This amplifier has been specifically modified from the normal LT/1300 to provide unprecedented amount of power well below 20 Hz to match up perfectly with the dual 13Av.2's.

Bill

Pardon my ignorance, but why different amps?

If you read the reviews from owners, this would be a first.
I'm not saying one is better or worse than the other.

To the OP, have you contacted Seaton for some help?
Tried other locations?
Using any EQ?

Just because one location works great for one sub, doesn't necessarily mean it will be the best location for all other subs.

I have tried the SubMersive in a couple of different locations in my listening room. I'm limited in how many places I can put something the size of a SubMersive. I've found from previous subs that the left front corner of my room works better than other locations that I have to choose from.

EQ? Yes, I'm using the SVS ASEQ1.

And yes both drivers are operating.

I don't think my SubMersive is doing anything different than any other SubMersive out there, I just think it's the nature of the beast.
It is a very well behaved sub, never losing it's cool, always tight and true to the source material. Which makes it the best music sub I've ever heard.
But in my listening room, for Home Theater, the SubMersive doesn't let loose and blow you away....
The 650 definately blows you away when you want/should be blown away.

Is it the SQ between a sealed sub and ported sub? I found that to be the case with the dual A7S-450's and the Conquest that I now have.

Both, the 650 and SubMersive, are sealed designs......
but with different driver placement and of course different drivers.

A local friend (audio nut as well) of mine will be picking up my SubMersive this weekend to try out in his system. He has a much different room design, much larger and more open space.
This will be very interesting to see if he gets the same results/impressions as I have. He has heard my SubMersive in my room and agrees it's a killer music sub but lacking in the boom department.
If he comes away blown away, as most here have, then I'll know it's my listening enviroment that doesn't play well with the SubMersive.

The dual 13's in the 650's modest internal dimensions (3.6 cubic feet) don't require the protection of a high pass filter. One of the benefits of a sealed design is the potential (if done right) to skip the HP.

DreamCatcher, good review of the 650 so far. You've owned a nice list of subs. How does the PC13 compares to the 650 for HT? Also, did you do some room measurements with a meter to find out the SPL levels for your subs using the same source material in order to compare the subs to each other?

A DreamCatcher Q and A session....

DC...did you happen to use the Submerssive and 650 with your Sierras? Work well together?

Gotcha. Thanks, Craig.

I wonder what would hit harder the 650 or 2 a7s-450s stacked

2 a7s-450 obviously. You're just about doubling the power and almost doubling the cone area.

Be a man, make eD do a custom "A7s-900" with the drives from the A7-450 (same driver as the A7s-650 just that its 18" instead of 13")

HOLY GRAIL!

HOLY GRAIL!

The driver in the a7s-650 is nothing like the driver in the a7s-450.

However, the a7-900 uses the same driver as the a7s-450.

The a7-450 (not sealed) has a beefed up driver compared to the 18 that's used in the previously mentioned subs.

Could you lay the A7s-650 on it's side instead of upright?

Sure, why not? The amp is located on the back of the sub and doesn't have fins, so orientation should not matter all.

It was like a joke, imagined a A7s-650 just with the drivers from the A7-450. Maybe i'm just hard to understand. I'l go stand in the corner now.

Yes, but only the SubMersive which blended perfectly with the Sierra's.
The Sierra's have since been moved into another system, for now.

Absolutely.....and it looks pretty friggin cool either way you look at it.

Has anyone seen a full review of the A7s-650 yet? The DIY price is almost too good to be true. If it performs as well as some of the other top priced subs, then it could be a category killer. Or even getting two A7s-650s for $2k !

If "boom" is what you are looking for, you bought the wrong sub. I have four SubMersives and it is the least "boomy" sub I have ever owned (or heard) and I have owned a bunch of mega expensive subs.

If you are referring to slam, that is a lot different.

Probably a poor choice of words on my part.
Boom is really the last thing you want to hear from a sub.
Slam is a much better description
Like when Darla taps on the Aquarium glass
and it sounds like a giant finger is tapping on your brain

Not everyone likes the sound of a ported sub....there are tradeoffs in every design, no two designes are exactly alike.

The a7s-650 looks really cool!! Is there anybody listen the 650 and svs pb13u? I'm considering upgrade the pb13u to a7-650s

I had the SVS PC13 Ultra just prior to the 650.
While a very good sub, the Ultra can't keep up with the 650,
both in output and bass tightness.

Now you have done it
