Alright so I'll share my experience with the Wilsons as last night I had my way with them LOL. I though about asking to take a few pics but in the end didn't, as I'm not a huge fan of people taking pics of my stuff either do I didn't bother to ask.
Well, I can say this, with music, the wilsons are simply outstanding, even the watchdogs had enough umph to have a nice sensation at mid to high spl levels. I was very impressed how the " old guy crap
" sounded on them. Female vocals were extremely nice. We listened in 7 channel stereo as in 2 channel, they didn't have the impact to fill the big room as it needed to be but all 7 sounded amazing.
For HT, well, I can honestly say at reference they indeed did breakup pretty badly, not sure if it's the room size or the speaker but their limits were found pretty easily. We watched some Hulh, Titan A.E and Battle of LA. All sounded great at normal listening volumes, easily as good as the Noesis with excellent dialog clarity. Once we hit reference however, it all was garbled and very tinny sounding. He's got 1000 watt mono's to each speaker so it's not a lack of power issue. His projector was on a 145" custom screen and was amazing abit a bit dim for my taste. He had some 4K pc material and it was simply jaw dropping in 2D.
Now for the wiener dog subs....... Man they blow, port chuffing so bad they could be heard almost 20 feet away, they were compressing at high volume and I completely understand why Greg said it was his first movie "experience" I'd easily wager I could go 10-15dB over what his theater can do easily with less power and minimal distortion and supreme clarity...... Of course my theater is much smaller but I'm talking about my Equipment in his room. He's actually looking to sell his watchdogs and have a local furniture maker make him some subs to match his Wilsons and get some DIY action! He won't sell the maxx speakers but he said he feel like a sucker buying the wilsons and hearing that 2 of my 21's would destroy all 4 his wiener dogs with ease, in every way possible.
I'd be very interested in what 7 Noesis would sound like in a room his size and hopefully in time when my new place finally gets started, I will do exactly that.
So in summary, wilsons..... amazing with music, great with HT until close to reference...... Then it all goes down hill for his uber expensive setup.... 25K vs I'd assume close to 800K at least..... pretty damn impressive!
Oh btw, in a few weeks, I'm dragging my Noesis to his place as he wants to hear them in room....
I think he likes them hahahaha
