I've been following this thread silently for a while now, and would love to get some advice from you guys. I just moved from a small condo to a single family house and of course the first thing on my mind was converting the large family room into a dedicated home theater
So my general order of priority: speakers, additional sub, TV upgrade, and room treatments, all over time and as budget allows..
I currently have 5.1 (Arx A5 LR, A2 C, A1b SL, SR, -Denon 4311ci, Seaton HP Submersive) and am considering going 7.2 since I actually have the space for it now. I really enjoy the Arx and believe they are phenomenal speakers, but I've got a severe case of upgaditis so I'm considering upgrading my LCR. I've heard the Noesis 212 in person a couple times at GTGs, so that and also from following this thread I've come to the conclusion that I would be very happy with 228HTs for LCR. Haven't made up my mind 100% but it's my #1 candidate currently for sure.
For the second sub, I'd like to keep the same quality and get another Seaton SubM. I can save a decent chunk of change by getting a Seaton SubM HP+ (4000w amp) and a slave input plate to switch out and return the 2400w amp in my current HP SubM for credit. The downside to this is it limits my sub placement options and doesn't take maximum advantage of the dual sub Audyssey MultEQ XT32 capabilities since the slave sub will just be connected to the master sub and the Denon 4311ci will see both just as one sub.
My other option would be ponying up more dough to get another HP SubM so it would take advantage of the second sub out, XT32, and many more placement options.
If I decided to go with the above options, I would move my A5s to surround duty, my A1bs to surround back, and potentially place the HP SubM's symmetrically on either side of the tv stand and actually put the JTR 228HTs right on top of the HP SubMs for LR.
Am I crazy for even considering this?
I took the measurements for the 228HTs off the JTR website, and the CD would actually be right about where the A5's tweeters are now ~ear height when sitting down. I would then line the JTRs up to the front edge of the SubM so no sound would reflect off the top of the SubM. This would look pretty sweet, and if it fails miserably I figure I can get stands made for the 228HT LR and then move the SubMs elsewhere- however I think placement anywhere else for the subs would be difficult if I kept with the HP+ master/ slave combo rather than two separate HP SubMs...
Current room layout and tentative future room layout below... BTW, the A5s are toed in and in the future layout, the 228HTs would be as well.
Would love your thoughts/suggestions on this.Edited by Ryansboston - 10/31/13 at 9:39am
