I think as time moves on and I get older and land an outside sales position at work my options will increase with increase in pay. I used to lift quite a bit. Heck I got so interested and intrigued with supplements I found a wholesale company in my state called pure bulk.com who sales everything. Or at least they used to. Now they won't even sale creatine because the FDA is coming down on everything. I experimented with lab grown stuff but that was short lived as it affected me differently, and my conscience. I don't do so much anymore though, need to get back in shape! I enjoy the PS3 but time is solo short now days. My fiancee and I are pretty active in the christian church (I know, I know that can cause a sigh for some. But trust me, there are some real ones out there). We give lots of time to various ministries and love seeing peoples lives changed for the better. I am big into the music/worship aspect hence my love for sound. I was building a performance engine (KA24DET) and was going going to buy a S14 Nissan body to drop my motor in. But I lost my desire for being dangerous (perhaps an act of God? lol) I actually got into Home Theater when I sold my built motor (450HP at the wheels). That leads me into this hobby and my current state of building my dream system. Going to get a couple triple 8's soon, then LCR 212 Noesis and that will give a 5 channel JTR, 2 Seaton Submersive system. Of course I have my Sherbourn PA 7350 seven channel power amplifier, Denon 3313 AVR, Etherreal Power conditioner/surge protector (off brand), PS3, Mac Mini, Open DRC-AN from mini DSP, Apple TV, and my Panasonic plasma. We are ordering a 3 seater theater style couch after the wedding and a matching single chair. I am embarking on building a fully treated room with DIY treatments. I have been studying extensively on different materials and their effectiveness at certain frequencies. There is more than just throwing up any old insulation in your room. I have become quite active with REW and my Cross Spectrum Labs UMM-6 USB mic. the peak will be in a few years when we buy a house and the dedicated room will take shape. I actually almost bought a Yamaha Banshee but opted for this hobby instead. I have no regrets as I absolutely love it! I love sound, music, and learning more and more! Good question Rhed! Believe me this will be my last subwoofer journey for a long while. Btw, I never got to experience subsonic in the single digits before. All the subs I went through was incapable of that. As a matter of fact I didn't even know anything about it. I've been a member here at AVS for 5 years now. Never hung around the subwoofer thread till this past year. And man, was I missing a lot in movie content.. As soon as my subs come in I'll post in Popolocks "path to subwoofer" thread. Then read about all the subs I went through..

I wouldn't expect a life changing experience with the infrasonic frequencies 15-16 on down. I like about there so far with my dual submersives. I am flat to 7.5 Hz before I drop off. One would say yea thats at a 90db measuring sweep. Well I was still flat at 109db and was unwilling to go any higher for fear of my rental house. Thats with both on a 15 amp circuit and the breaker didn't pop. So that tells me I have even more. But we watched WWZ last night at -13. I am 8.5 ft from screen and 9.3 to LR mains. I do run 2-4 db hot, dynamic EQ on, and a 10 db rising house curve from 100 to 30 hz. I like the infrasonic but to be 100% honest the general 20-80 slams and punches are still the favorite. I mean if I ran a filter and a drop at 13-15 HZ I wouldn't be terribly disappointed.

oh and my high SPL sweep if anything could be low. Many say the UMM-6 has a noise floor of 45-50db. Well I live out in the super quite country and I am at 42-44db on my REW SPL calibration. Just means I could be a couple db's low on my calibration. I think my thought process is correct there but admit it is unsure thinking.

Yea.. But I'll let you all know how it goes from 20 hz down. Because I've been told with quad S2 its a whole different story down low. Been told it'll be lots of fun. Didn't realize that's like a 18x8 sub system. Each cab will be on its own 20 amp circuit. Don't know if that matters anyway. But right now I'm still working on sealing off my room with sound curtains and a bunch of room treatments..

I'm just had my first kid (girl) 2 weeks ago, so thats been talking up most of my time as of now lol.
I love to build subs! I've done over 80 now, usually I will try out a new design or driver and give them away to family and friends when I'm done if I don't keep them.
I love electronics, any and all of them!
I love to build high end gaming pc's ( I do it on the side for a friends pc company)
I also love gaming, I do completely new PC builds every year no matter what it out just because I love to build and tweak them!
I love cars/trucks, I've got a 86 Regal T-type and a 2013 Sierra with countless mods on both. This summer I smoked a z06 vette with 25K worth of mods in the 1/4 mile at the drag strip in my regal... His face was priceless!
I also love pretty much all sports, watching and playing. Golf, Hockey, baseball, car racing... I have season tickets to the Winnipeg Jets and my wife and I really enjoy going to the games.

Did I forget to say I love Audio/Video? lol

Mine mesh very well because I don't have the frequencies they are covering overlapped. The sealed cover ~5-25 and the OS covers 25-80Hz. I briefly ran them together and had some huge cancellation but I didn't really work on the delay etc because I wasn't planning on running them that way anyway. I plan on a second OS to smooth things out and give me some more headroom in my massive room.

I'm building a house with a dedicated theater. The dimensions are 12.75 x 24 x 9. My plan is for 212's LCR and Slanted 8's for the sides and rears.

Subs - I feel like I'm on the Michael Jackson "This Is It" tour. I'll be 70 years old at move in time and these are gonna be the last speakers I ever buy. I was thinking about using three PSA XS30's (already have one), but even though I know the PSA's can handle the volume well, the siren song of OS is calling. I'm thinking of two OS's on the front wall quarter points. All of the fronts will be behind a AT screen. Depending on measurements and room treatments I may or may not have to use a third sub in the rear. I "might" be able to get away with putting the XS30 there because listening levels won't be too insane but if needed another OS is not out of the equation.

If I buy lessor speakers I'll forever be wondering "what if?".

Any and all advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

First.. Congrats on the new born bro. All I can say is fun.. fun.. fun..
Wow. I like building PC's too. Chasing new video cards and stuff. Just finish build a SLI build 3 months ago with dual nvidia 870. Kinda didn't build one for a few years before this one. BF4 is rockin though. And wow, '86 T-type? I had a '87 GN which I bought brand new back in high school. I used to get teased at first when I got the car. Then after smoking some 5.0, irocs, and Montes no ones laughing no more. Then I got a '93 LT1. Machined my block to a 355 for PTK turbo build. Ran a 76gts turbo. Got dynoed 892 wrhp on race gas. 10.72 was my best time on the strip. Man, did I spend some bucks on car. Totally stopped that hobby 10 years ago. Sold everything. Now I don't do nothing with cars. But I do drive a 2008 GMC 2500HD desiel truck. And a 2013 C63 AMG MB. With no mods. I'm done building cars. I think that hobby period will run anyone to bankrupt.. Lol..

looking to finally get rid of my 2 danley dts-10s, wife says they take up too much space =/

so looking at either 2x JTR S2, or possibly 2x Seaton F2+

hard decision, both cost about the same, i need them veneered in some awesome finish again.

Thats why I sold but I am finding out this one is somewhat of a money grabber too. I thought my 7.1 Definitive Technology, HSU sub, Denon AVR would be it and I would have a decent system. But I see its not so. That is my theory of going straight to the top from here on out. smile.gif

Thanks! Ya I hear you about cars, they can be account drainers for sure, though I work for GM, so I can get any part at our cost, which is usually close to 1/2 of retail, so thats helps out a ton! cool.gif Some of the guys at my work as into their cars for over 100K, it's crazy, they live in tiny apartments and have insane rides LOL
I'm having fun with BF4 as well! Tough I bough launch Titans... Then Nvidia came out with the 780's.... talk about a kick in the nuts hahahaha. Awe well, under water, they've never hit above 40c and I'm running a custom firmware @ 1.3V!
Yea bro.. That's why I went to the top upgrade the subs first.lol.. After my family trip in December gonna upgrade my LCR to 212. Then 4 surrounds. Don't know which one yet. Thinking of 228 for surrounds. Then by end of next year or earlier look into a pro amp. Don't know which ones also. Looking at the LG's though. Just trying to get all the upgrades before my new house build in mid or end 2015..

Wow bro.. You work for GM? Nice! Bro I've never seen the new Z28 or ZR1. I think we only have like 4 or 5 of the Z28 on the island. No ZR1.. N8.. you OC your rig too? Man since I've been out of the loop for awhile I totally for got how to OC. I have Gigabyte mb and when I go into gje bios I forgot how to play with the multiplyers and volts for the CPU. Lol.. Geez, all this hobbys is hard to keep up sometimes. That's why I think hanging around in forums like this one with all you AV nut heads is dangerous..lol.. Bad influence guys..nice!

Nice. I dont think you'll regret those choices biggrin.gif

Been doing some research on the LG's. Very nice indeed. I'm looking at the FP 6000Q instead for the 212 LCR later. Instead of that beastly one you have Gooddoc.. Thinking about the post you made earlier in this thread. I mean if Jeff's 212's recommends up to 2000 rms. He must be telling us something. I guess if we Really wanted to hear the 212's do it's full duty with flying colors and clean, with nice clarity I guess one should be close to the recommended watts or amplification. Damn.. I can't wait. You know I have a lot of friends also come over for bar b ques, play cards, and watch a flick also. I just like showing off the equipment and what they can do. Don't you fellas feel sometimes your friends is competing with you with what you have or vise versa? Lol.. That's also the reason why I like nice things. Just as long as I spend to my capacity and not go over board. Get a argument with the wife. Then all hell breaks loose. Just gotta have balance. Couple upgrades at a time should do the trick..lol..

Haha yea I wouldn't have a problem stacking another one on top of my current one, but that wouldn't fix my 70hz dip 😊

other problem that might have gone under the radar before. There is a lot I have to chase down in my own system.

Christian? You born again? My parents is hardcore in the ministries. So is my brother and sister. I'ma, ah I'm kinda black sheep in the family. My wife and kids go to church every Sunday. Wife keeps buggin me when will I go with them. I think I should soon. Anyway since you're a born again Christian I have one advise for you.. Be careful with this hobby. Because it will lead to materialistic.. Then turn idol. Which of course is sin.. biggrin.gif
Nah.. Just kiddin brother... Oh btw, I used to play drums for the church also. I do have my own drums too. It's a Roland V20. Been playing drums for since I was a kid. Never played for a band before though. Either the church choir or solo. Drums at church is acoustic. My son now has he's own DW acoustic set. He's 11 now been taking lessons and playing for 5 years just starting playing duets in public jazz meets.. My 8 year old daughter takes singing and guitar lessons. And they both take Judo for 3 years now.. Gosh kid stuffs are fun too..

Buzz, that sounds like a world beater setup. You'd be hard pressed to do better IMO. I've been to a lot of meets, heard a lot of gear, and JTR is a top shelf contender against anything I've heard anywhere. Depending on your seating arrangement and wall hang options you might choose the 228HT over the slanted eights would be my only counter to your proposed solution. The placement of the orbit shifters is a bit of an unknown without a few more dimensions given and some fancy expertise. Some of the guys on these forums could tell you what frequency peaks and nulls you'll be dealing with just from dimensions, ceiling height, and distance from the walls/corners. I'm not at the level yet... I just place and measure, move, and measure, move and measure. Optimizing the naked (non eq'ed) frequency response before running any EQ. A tool like REW or omnimic will give you that basic start.
Had a question.. Will a 50 foot RCA to XLR cable affect the signal to the sub. I was decided to place my 4 S2 when they arrive 2 up front next to the LR mains (about 1/4 way in from each sides). And same distance for the two in the back that will have th 50 ft cable connected to. They will be near field to mlp seating about 5 ft at back..
50 foot is getting to be about the limit of a run of RCA cable.

You might try using coax cable - like what a TV or cable box uses and use an adapter. I've heard this is less likely to pick up noise, because common cheap coax cable is better shielded than most RCA cable. The XLR adapter on the end of an RCA does you no good, because it's not truly a balanced cable at that point. If you use RCA you'll probably want to get a heavy duty/higher quality cable than your normal fare.

For the coax cable idea something like this F adapater would work.

I'm having fun with BF4 as well! Tough I bough launch Titans... Then Nvidia came out with the 780's.... talk about a kick in the nuts hahahaha. Awe well, under water, they've never hit above 40c and I'm running a custom firmware @ 1.3V!
I quit racing after I spent close to $40k in one year on tires alone.

Speaking of building computers, I know I might have been late to the party but I built a fully submerged computer when the i7 first came out. At the time people were doing the same with old parts, I put brand new top of the line stuff in an aquarium and people flipped hehe

Thanks.. Man I should have ask this question before I purchase my cables. I went to this site.. http://www.speakerpower.net/documents.html. Then from there was a recommended link for the cables unfortunately they didn't have something like 40 ft. Which would have been perfect for my rear subs. So ordered 2 10 ftrs for my front subs and 2 50 ftrs for the rear.

What? A fully submerge PC? Never tried seen that before. Man I can't imagining OC that thing to its maximum. Probably turn the water hot! Lol.. Nice man! My latest PC I built a three months ago just to get ready for BF4 has only liquid cooling for the i7 4th gen proc. Wow I thought I was one of a few geeks that hang around here build pc's. Turns out you guys are nut only AV nut heads but geek PC builders and grease monkeys like myself.. Nice! Dang I like this thread. This JTR thread is the coolest in the whole AVSforum.com..lol Jon I think I spent close to your 40k when I use to build and race car. I too quit. Over 10 years ago. I think if I used that money for this AV hobby, I would have a baddass system.. Lol we'll I enjoyed building cars and racing too..

40K in tires! yikes!!!!

Submerged PC's are pretty cool. I tried it with mineral oil with a cheapy build just to see but just went to water cooling instead lol

Heres my current rig : RIVE, 3930k @4.95mhz, dual titans, 8 SSD's lol and about $2500 worth of the best of the best wc parts including a triple DDC 3.25 pump setup. The water has a loop time of 2.6 seconds and it goes through 4 rads, 2 gpu's cpu block and res! biggrin.gif

Sorry to get off topic.... urgh, I'm a freaking nerd! lol

DANNGG! Friggin nice bro. That's a all out custom PC. Of all the PC's I ever build. The only thing I'm tedious about us the cable management. What kind of case is that. That's nice. I like Corsair case and ram. But that case is a beast. Besides the h20 cooling looks like alot of air movement in there too. What kind of PSU or should I call it a transformer you using. Man I'm jealous...Yup you are officially a friggin nerd... Lol
