Initially I thought I simply must have 2000 watts of power for each of my 212s, so I bought the FP10,000 (4 channels of 2200 watts into 4 ohms). It did play much louder and with more authority and you can say 'smoother' on my 212s compared to my Old Marantz receiver (which was only stable to 6 ohms and was sort of started to clip at my 'concert level listening habit').
However, once my Onkyo 3009 arrived, that changed the entire game entirely. It provided the same 'smoother and authority' that my fp 10,000 did and I could play as loud as I wanted without any clipping lights coming on.... The Onkyo is stable to 4ohms and that may explain it, and it's most likely putting out 280 watts / channel into 4 ohms as well.
So, IMHO, perhaps it's not such a bad idea to first try it out with a good quality (stable to 4 ohms) receiver and see if that's loud enough for you before buying separates.
I don't regret having my FP10,000 clone though, since I will be using it to power extra Subwoofers or Mid Bass modules when my HT is built...
