The low listening levels I was referring to are around -20 db. Every bit of dialogue and the other quiet sounds in the gunfight scene were still discernable which I would expect might have been a problem with my old speakers. The first time we watched the scene, we actually listened at a much lower volume level than it was played in the store and it was still enjoyable.

After that, I turned it up to -5 which is quite a bit louder than I ever played a movie with the old speakers. My wife rarely let me turn it up any louder than -14. However, she did not complain at all about the volume. It just sounded good, and not at all too loud. I imagine that this is the effortless volume that everyone talks about. It is now clear that my old speakers were straining or too much was being asked of my amps. With the JTR's I probably could have got away with reference level listening.

You do not happen to know of anwhere online that would sell a foam wedge do you?

It really sounds good right now as it is. The plan is to eventually go to an acoustically transparent screen, but that will have to wait until the next house.

Jedirun, you can build an AT screen for cheap. Mine was about $250 total with black velvet borders all the way around. The next step up is about $400 more(more expensive material). My 1080P looks great for a 130 inch screen.

I've tryed full range and I get a much fuller warm sound from both the 12s and the 888s but I don't want to damage the speakers being most recommend 50hz cross on the 12s and 80hz for the 888s. Is it safe to run the speakers at full range and use just the cross over in the speakers?

For the modestly priced subwoofer. I would recommend a pair of MFW-15's. It is a Mark Seaton design and you can get a pair for less than $1000.
