Listened to some Les McCann tonight. These speakers are very good with music and I love them for HT. With them and the multiple subs it is down right scary at times.

Love the naked compression driver. Makes for better speaker porn.

Jeff - are using birch plywood or MDF for the 12HT cabinets? If MDF, why did you decide to switch from birch?
He uses both, the mdf is easier to veneer and paint for home use and Birch is sprayed with the line-x coating for durability and strenght

jpterry, Here is everything in place and calibrated. Picture is overexposed. otherwise it is too dark to see anything.

System sounds great.

So i just noticed that on the website the Triple 8 is listed at 49lbs while the triple 8 HT is listed as 75 lbs. and the HT is larger by .25" in 1 dimension, does that mean that the triple 8 HT's are also made of MDF? being that it is so much heavier? Thanks

Mike - everything looks great! How are you enjoying the JTRs compared to the Klipsch? Music vs Movies? Were you surprised by the weight? They are built like tanks.
Shipping sucks. Is it just cosmetic? Can you still try it out? I would if I could.
That looks like someone left it in a puddle of water for a long time.
I don't see any water marks on the box, I would bet a bad drop.....hopefully everything will work properly.
Ouch! Looks like a BIG drop. Core material does look odd, if not from wet, maybe from shock/vibration??
that foam doesnt look like the dense stuff you would see from other companies? is that the standard home insulation foam you would find at home depot?

I am getting a lot more out of the T8's, but of course I am able to run a lot more wattage through them. The Klipsch RB-35's even though bookshelf speakers did provide a large sound since I cross everything to the subs at 100hz, but the T8's are just more of everything. Musical instruments sound more like musical instruments and the imaging is very good. As to the weight, I actually thought that they would be heavier. Birch is a lot lighter than MDF though. I have an old pair of Yamaha NS-690 III's http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...o/DSCN0833.jpg (not mine, but I do still have the 810 amp also in the pic) that are similar in size and they make the T8's feel light.

It is 1" R-5 rigid insulation. pretty good stuff. The speaker took a hard drop right on the corner. Hope the drivers are okay. I would be worried about a loose magnet or bent basket. Push on the cones (evenly) and see if there is any rubbing.
It looks like water because of how soft it looks, but it also looks squished.

I will guarantee you that it is from being dropped and not from water damage. You need to notify the shipping company ASAP. Don't even take it out of the box unless Jeff tells you to. You can clearly see where the foam insulation was compressed from the hit. Also the corner of the box is torn open. To check the driver for rubbing you do not take it out. You just press evenly on both sides of the cone to see if it is rubbing.

If you are present when a package is delivered, you should have the driver note any and all damage shown on the box. I can also guarantee you that the driver knows that that box took a hard fall even if he did not do it. I have shipped and mostly received 1,000's of items and have seen that type of damage often.

+1. You shouldn't have signed for that. It needs to go back. That kind of shipping damage is unacceptable. The shipper needs to pay for that.

Sorry, I am not familiar with the Captivator. Did not realize that it was a band pass design.

Sorry to hear about the shape your captivator arrived in, hopefully it's nothing serious and only cosmetic.

But just a question, you say you can't access the woofer as it's inside the box, however looking at the picture on the jtr site the woofer seems like it can be easily accessed ... sorry if it's a dumb question but am I missing something here? http://jtrspeakers.com/home-audio/captivator/

That is not the woofer it is the passive radiator
post #1523 of 8265

Jeff - can you measure the dimensions of the T12HT box so I can make sure they will fit in my SUV? Thx!
