Processing budget is less than $1000, just need pre outs and outstanding sound quality for movies, no video upconversion or fancy wide heights.

Amps looking at used pro gear I read crown k2's and behringer tested identical. I like the no fans on k2 and fan mod on behring.

Surrounds can be anything cheap my room is "different" than most makes it hard to place surrounds on back wall, just need something to get by for now.

Looking for any suggestions, Iam new to this not sure whats best

Luis

I'm running emotiva amps putting only 300w into a 4ohm load. This is what Jeff told me via email

With the JTR efficience, your 300 watts will go a long way and make you "popular" among neighbors, neighbors. If you upper gradeist ever kicks in, you can quadruple your wattage.

i'm sure pro amps will work fine, but i was running near reference levels (-3db) with my amp, and after all of terminator salvation, the amp was not even warm to touch. no fans, no noise, maybe i'll go pro when i need more sound eventually.

I been looking at the Emotiva amps. Which one do you have and do you like it? They have a free 30 trial

running off a MPS-1 now, have the XPA-5 also, works just as well. shipping isn't too bad on the amps either if you need to return it!

As far as processing goes. A new or used Onkyo 706 or 707 should fit your specifications.

Actually 705 might be better is you even care about audyssey (I think multEQ xt was in the 705)

Saved money can always go to something else more fun

EDIT: he might be right... 706 is cheap

Does Jeff normally send a email when he ships? He mentioned something about trying to ship last weds, but haven't heard from him since then. Figured he is probably busy as heck trying to meet shipping schedules, but figured I'd ask if anyone has heard from him.

He called and emailed me. He's usually a tad optimistic about shipping deadlines...

I got a reply from him on Sunday stating he "hoped" to ship my 3 T12HTs this week.

The 705 does have pre-outs and Audyssey MultEQ XT. I don't know where it can be found now though, or if it's as cheap as the 706. The cheapest XX6 Onkyo with MultEQ XT is the TX-SR876, and the cheapest XX7 is the TX-NR1007.

Thanks for the suggestions, Iam looking at Onkyo 876 because of its ability to pass video untouched, amp section, and preouts.

Beign that the 876 is a 7.1 receiver and I have two captivators on the way, would it be worth going with a receiver that has two sub outs or would the 876 be just fine.

Just use a y-cable. I use several since I split my LFE to five subs.

An s-converter could be helpful if he is using pro amps.
agreed. I have a 1007 with 2 outs and I don't consider it a must.

Called and emailed Jeff yesterday, no replies as of yet, he must be busy beyond belief!

They have arrived! I can't believe how big the Triple 12's are. I just got done calibrating them and gave them a small demo. These things play LOUD! They are so efficient that I had a problem calibrating them. I was trying to get them to 75db but my Integra 9.8 would not let me go any less than -12, now what do I do?

The lowest I could go is 81db. Did anyone else have this problem?

Keep in mind, I have a full Klipsch Ultra II set up. The JTR's are more efficient then them.

I couldn't get a better demo out of them because I had to put the little guy to sleep. I will post again after I get time this weekend.

Almost forgot, the Danley DTS-10 also showed up today. Gonna be a great weekend!

Yup, same level problem with my T12's and the 9.8 (and now my 80.1). I just calibrate to 80db instead of 75 and assume reference is -5MV rather than 0. Did you run Audyssey? If so , what were the crossover settings?

Anyway enjoy the head room and try crossing them at 50 or 60Hz. They can handle it.

I just got my Q8s yesterday...WOW they are heavy! Jeff makes an incredible product, fit and finish excellent and their performance awesome. Tested them last night after calibrated with ARC, can't believe -7.5 settings my Monitor Audio GS60 were +5.5... Watched Dark Knight and 2012
amazing. I high recommend them to anyone!

Awesome Manny!

Question, why not put all 3 on the same level and same height?

I agree. With an AT screen I would have all three vertical with the coaxial driver at the top for a perfect match.
Just noticed that there are no tweeters. What gives?

There is a coaxial in each speaker with a compression driver (tweeter) in the center of the midrange driver. The other 2 to 4 drivers are mid woofers.

Although that may be ideal, the most important thing is to align the coaxes. If you look closely at Manny's pics, the coaxes are very close to aligned because the mains have the coax in the upper driver location.

I agree, but since he is using an AT screen, it does not appear to be any reason that keeps him from setting the speakers in their ideal position.

I wish that my room and screen was large enough to place all three behind my screen. As it stands right now I only can place the center behind my screen.

Yes, I'm still alive, working like crazy trying to get everyone speakers out as quickly as I can. I'm glad to see people are starting to recieve their speakers.

The 1” compression driver (tweeter) behind the acoustically transparent dust cover.
Well, I believe he had Monitor Gold 60s and his center was an Aerial Acoustics CC3, so he probably just hasn't bothered to change from the way it was set up. Just wanted to drop them in and hook them up!

Are there any JTR owners in the Boulder, CO area that would be willing to demo their system? PM me if you don't want to make it public.

Thanks!
Guys...I agree also.
I swear that I had told Jeff my setup and requested for all three Q8s to be upright install. When I opened the first box I was surprised to see the coaxial in the center....

I was thinking of switching it myself but didn't want to mess and screw something up...I would think its pretty straight forward change.

I'm very happy how they sound Amazing!!!! Incredible impact!!!!
Thanks to everyone here on the thread !

I bet you did not want to waste any time in getting to listen to them. With the 2010's it is a very simple change since the coaxial is a sealed back unit. Just move it and the wiring to what ever opening you want.
