Spoke to Jeff yesterday and my (3) T12s have been shipped and on the way to Memphis! Sold my T8s over month back and have been going through major withdrawals. Jeff and I are planning an AVS Meet at my house next month to showcase the T12's in the Memphis area. I will start working on the details and get them out soon after I have a firm date that Jeff can make the trip. Should be a great time!

My Setup:

(3) T12s
(4) S8s
JVC RS2
Integra 9.8
Emotiva Amps XP5s
Epik Tower Sub

Not yet. I'm not sure any comments from different rooms/setups would be of much use anyway. Since I have a pair of the DST-10's little brother (TH-SPUD) I think I have a pretty good idea how they would sound.

As an all around sub, I prefer the Captivator but having a pair of TH-SPUDS under my second row riser makes for an amazing tactile expierence. I did not like the TH-SPUDS as much when they were wall standing. Just couldn't get them to sound right. Adding the Captivators to the Front stage and moving the TH-SPUD to the under riser position lets them work together and the results are just what I wanted .

Will be really interested in getting your reaction to the differnce between the T12s and T8s.

Dying to get my captivator working right but it looks like the white noise/hiss issue is never going to go away.

Is there any way on earth it could be the woofer?

I just did another experiment.

The gain controls on the reckhorn b-1 and samson s-converter both effect the noise so does the inclusion of the as-eq1 -BUT- turning the receiver master volume up does not.

Also if I take out any one or two of those components it any combo it still reacts the same way.

Any ideas? I already have switched out every wire and outlet and have a jensen transformer on the coax cable for a ground hum.

My T8s were 2008 models so i am expecting a big upgrade in performance. The main reason I upgraded was I wanted more mid-bass punch(60-80hz) range and the dialogue was ok on my T8s, I hope the improved tweeters will give me excellent dialogue.

As the owner of your old set of T8's I am interested in coming down and hearing the T12's if things work out. I know that there would be a pretty big difference between the T8's and T12's when crossed at 80hz, but I wonder how much of a difference between the T12's crossed at 80hz and my T8's crossed at 100hz going to multiple subs. I found a big difference with the mid-bass, letting the five subs handle everything up to 100hz. I am running a 180L 12" ported Shiva driver, two 35L sealed 12" TC Sounds drivers, 57L sealed dual 10" NHT driver and a 28L sealed 10" NHT driver. The room is 1,250CF. Pretty happy with the sound in this room. For bass comparison I have listened to a Danley TH-50.

How does it all compare to the TH-50, I know there must be room differences etc but even so?

Not planning to upgrade the subs then?

Thanks for you feedback. I am just trying to make up my mind if I want to order the DTS-10 before the deadline next month.

That's most certainly an electronics issue, and I expect would be observed with most any moderately efficient speaker connected to the chain. A passive woofer/speaker cannot cause a hiss/white noise. It can only output what the electronics are outputting. Do you get a hiss with just the amp connected to the subwoofer and no wires connected to the amp? In trouble shooting you want to start at one end of the chain (the sub in this case) and work back from there.

Thanks for the assurance Mark.

I have sort of narrowed it down to 2 things.

Without the Reckhorn b1 it is the same, with the reckhorn b1 in the loop WITH the lpf engaged AND the gain on it high it is less but still there. When I use the LPF and turn the gain on the b1 down it is almost gone.

Somehow the LPF on the reckhorn takes out the nastiest part of it but the gain on the reckhorn introduces the other half. By maxing the gain on the amp and the samson s converter and keeping the volume on the reckhorn down with its lpf engaged it seems to be the best. If might still be there a bit but it is not noticeable to any extent

I have owned a pair of 2010 T8s (LR) and a Q8 (C) and now have a T12 front stage.

Although I really enjoyed the T8s and the Q8 I feel the new T12s are a great improvement in my room and in my situation. I had two MFW-15s crossed at 80hz, the T8's at 80hz and the Q8 at 60hz. It took me getting the T12s to realize what I was missing in the midbass realm. They are an awesome mid/low bass improvement in my room.

It might be too early to tell as I have only owned the T12s for about a week and some change but I feel the tweeter has improved in detail. I can hear more especially in music now with the T12s. I am not sure if it is the fuller midbass presence but the T12s seems more neutral then the T8s to me.

To me the T12s is a more musical loudspeaker then the T8s.

Either way, these speakers rock and I am a happy customer!!!!

Mark or anyone else...

I have tried more and more but the noise is worse than I though and it won't go away. Is there any chance shorting plugs could work? I do have wireless internet and the downstairs neighbor has a hacked super repeater of that network (some illegaly wired internet transmitter).

I would love to attend the GTG. I have a JVC rs 35 that I could bring. I had the rs 2 and then the rs 20 and the 35 smokes them.

Nice, another Southerner. I'm just outside of Tupelo, MS (about an hour and a half from Memphis).

I just upgraded two of the subs from 10" NHT xdw drivers to the 12" TC Sound drivers. I went out of town right after the upgrade and need to listen more, but what little that I have listened did sound very good. Before the upgrade, using the 10" NHT xdw drivers the bass sounded very good. Had the same type of sound that the TH-50 had, but no where near the volume level. When played at reference level I was concerned that I might have to push the xdw drivers too hard. That is why I switched to the 12" TC Sound drivers feeding 1,000 watts to each driver. I need to listen to a movie that I am very familiar with so that I can make sure the mid-bass is as good as it was.

That would be great. I would love to see the new JVC 35 and compare it to my RS2. As soon as I have a definite date from Jeff, we will start working on the agenda for the GTG. Look forward to meeting a lot of HT Crazies in the Mid-South area.

I got the hiss down by taking out the samson s-converter but I did not get to test higher volumes to see if this is limiting headroom.

Ex-memphian here. Been gone 3-4 years now. Miss the q but not the crime. Grew up on stonewall in midtown.

Heck. If you let me know when it is, I may just come down. I've got LCR T8's and pair of S8's driven by Halo amps currently using a denon 3808 as prepro until I decide on a pure prepro. Also using a UMR calibrated RS35 and it is indeed great.

I hate you!

When i get more funds there might be 3 quintuples on the market ha but I need to have the 12's show up before I sell them or my gf might kill me.... Might be a while.

The upgrade from the rs-2 to the rs 20 was huge imho. From the 20 to the 35 was smaller but there are some things that make the 35 better like focus etc.

I just ordered a Triple 12HT to replace my Klipsch RC 64. Once my mains sell I will order 2 more. I have to really budget.
still waiting on the good news of my Q8's shipping. hope to find out soon!, have 3 T8s now, and will have 2 Q8's coming, and another one in a month, 2 months? whenever its done. Will be running Q8's L/R and T8's C and front wides. When the 3rd Q8 gets here, it'll be Q8 LCR. wished i had the space for the T12. The only place i have for the center speaker in the living room is on top of my component rack, and even 12" from the T8 is really pushing it.

Thats funny . Curisoty killed my budget as well. I said I was going to sell my T8s and Q8 but ended up just getting the T12s before that. Now I think I will just use the T8s as surrounds, move my S8s as rears and more actively try to sell the Q8.

...............and then maybe two DTS-10s.............or Captivators

Never ending!!!
I am not actively pursuing it yet but if anyone in the NJ/NY/PA/CT area is interested in 3 quintuple 8's in textured black (so much nicer than matte IMO only) then I will part with them to try out triple 12's for no reason other than curiosity

If anyone knows of triple 8's up for grabs let me know.

How are they with your Q8's?
I think you would have to be a much more developed audiophile type to notice a real difference when using them as surrounds. I don't have enough experience to notice a voicing or tonal difference because they are on the sides and get much less material. Do they sound as good as the quintuples? Well, obviously no BUT they also don't get enough material to make that distinction. Are they distracting or lacking in any way? Certainly not. I don't know if they would be good heights or wides but for surrounds I really don't see any reason not to get them if you can come close to matching the price I paid.

I love my new a set up. I don't have the lavish HT's many of you have but my reworked room sounds great. I'll try to post up some pics, I made big changes.
