If you wanted to highpass the DD-15 and use it at a much reduced gain as a filler sub to improve FR ala Geddes, then maybe. But a pair of Captivators will make the DD-15 irrelevant and simply hamper your system headroom.
Sell the DD15 and put those funds towards the JTR's.
Of course, that's just my 2$

I agree with you! I have tried it both ways and the best impact with audio and bass is running speakers small and let the subs carry the bass load. Dual subs is good, Triple is better, and Quads are insane.

Dragon,

Thanks for the link; interesting chairs, and I love the low back height. If only they had recliners... Anyway, for those of us with long legs, would you please measure the depth of the seat cusion from the back of the seated area (without the pillow) to the front of the cusion?

Also, do the chrome tubular "feet" have threaded levelers installed? I am wondering if these chairs would be practicle if combined with Crowson Tactile Transducers. With those units, you need to install rubber isolaters where you do not have the transducers under the chair.

Thanks.

giomania , i'll take some measurements of the chairs seat from  back of seat cushion to front of it. They would work great with transducers at least i believe , there's plenty of room under the chairs they have a wide deep pocket under them. I'll take a picure of it and post it here in a  short while . The tubular feet have no adjustment capability however that would be easy to do, and the feet are screwed in so i quess some kind of invent adjust can be created.

So if you are in the GTA and help me out please me a PM with details.
Thanks in advance.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks for the link to those great looking chairs DLP but the lack of a recilner feature is a show stopper for me. WIth the highly variable quality of films these days, I would miss out on too much sleep without recline wink.gif.

Also thanks for the nice comments. As you guys well know, when you create something that provides family and friends safe, sane and inexpensive entertainment it is it's own reward. I try to limit my comments to my personal experiences but A/V is so subjective that you never know if you are dispensing the correct advice for each situation. I try and caveat my recommendations with the oft used IMHO. The humble part of that acronym is very important.smile.gif

True and well said ! If i reclined in my totally dark room i'd never finish a moviecool.gif. I'll admit i get some nice naps in the room, without the wife and dog in the bed it gets lonely though!

RX-8 :
I can readily offer a demo. I'm in Waterloo with 3 x T12 for L-C-R and 2 Submerisive-HP, but no surrounds at the moment. My PJ is the awesome JVC RS-65 ! However, I'm on a plane tomorrw and not back until September. There is another Waterloo guy with a full JTR setup ( older T12, T8, Slant 8 ) and 2 Submersive-HP as well. He recently informed me he may be moving "far away" and selling it all. Send me a PM with your email and I'll get back to you once I'm back. I alreayd called dibs on one of his Seaton's and his Integra 80.3 pre/pro.

Andy, I assume you're talking about Rob? Have you listened to his set up? I'm curious what you think about the difference between his T8's and your T12's.

Quick question for Triple 12LF owners, and probably 8's as well. How much do the drivers move during playback, specifically the non compression driver drivers? Know what I mean? My two drivers don't move all that much even at reference volume and I was just wondering if that was normal or not. My compression driver is quite lively but the other 2 drivers don't move much.

Thanks.

In my T8s, the drivers hardly seem to move at all. It's like their hardly working, but there sure as hell putting out plenty of sound. I do cross them over to stereo subs at 100hz, though.

My T12 drivers barely move, even at loud levels.
I always assumed that the term "effortless" meant
the drivers barely moved or put forth little effort to
reproduce the source material.
I have to touch them with my hands to
see if there is any vibrations.I can hear them I just
can't see them moving most times.
Just a guess

I think your LF version is one of the originals
Mabey even a Jeff and Mark collaberation?
There have been several upgrades and changes
to both the CD and crossovers over the past 3 years.
An upgrade to your current T12LF's would be a noticable
difference and worth the $$$$$ if done right.
I know the task seems a little overwhelming.
You could always sell yours and just buy new 2013 T12 HT'S
When they come out.
good luck

Now that is a good idea! Other than needing about $50 in new grills they speakers are in great condition. I believe they are 3 years old. Guess it never hurts to try and advertise them and see if they would sell.

My complete JTR package is shipping today...very excited. Not so excited about moving 800lbs of speakers around but it's all part of the fun.

I am a little confused about how to refer to a complete sound system in terms of
7.1 , 7.2 ,or 9.1 , 9.2 .
I know first number refers to speakers 7=7speakers and 9 = 9 speakers.
It is the next number I do not.
.1 = 1 subwoofer .2 = 2 subwoofers .3 = 3 subwoofers
or does it refer to number channels below the crossover? LFE channel
I assume a DENON 4311 with 2 subwoofer outputs still output the same
LFE to both making it 7.1 or 9.1 no matter the number of subwoofers.
I only ask because I would like to refer to the terminology correctly in my
future posts.
thanks

The second number (.x) refers to the number of LFE speakers.

The .x referrers to the number of LFE channels when referring to a pre/pro.

For example you could have a 7.1 pre/pro but have a 7.2 speaker system.

I hope that helps.

Cheers,

Another option would be to upgrade just the crossover and Coaxial/CD. I have done this twice as the woofers and cabinet have not changed much over the years. To me the differences are subtle but noticeable in terms of clarity and detail of the Mid/HF's. Of course if you wanted to go with the new sealed LP unit then this comment is N/A.

The LFE channel is encoded on the disc. There is always only one LFE channel.

The .x refers to the number of subs.

As a soon to be owner of T12HT's, Slant 8's, and a Captivator S2 I have a question for all the existing owners.

What cross over frequency did you end up running for each of your speaker types? I know that stated frequency response specs and best practice crossover frequencies don't always align. I imagine the JTR's are more capable in their lower spec'd frequencies than most brands but I'd like to hear what everyone ended up using.

If everyone sends me a PM stating what frequencies they use for each of their JTR speaker types I'll compile all the answers and post them in a few days as a "database" for other future owners. Hopefully that'll keep the thread a bit cleaner. Don't forget what sub your crossing over to as well (just for fun).

They next few weeks of waiting will be tough!

Thanks.

I stopped over John's (SeaNile) place last night and listened to his T12s. As he mentioned, the drivers (non compression) don't really move at all and there appears to be very little or no sound coming out of them. You can place your ear right up the the driver (non-compression) and it's hard to hear anything at all. Is this normal?
That system screams 80hz crossover.
but of course whatever sounds best after experimentation.
I knew before I bought my speakers and subs that I was shooting
for 80hz so I made sure they were more than capable. No matter what I try or what audyssey says I always raise
it to 80hz to keep it effortless and it is.
2 cents

You have a great space to work with Brady and I know you are going to be happy with the "new" systems sound. Be sure and post updated pics when you get the speakers installed. cool.gif

I have a double set, and am currently robbing the t12's of their low end, but I run the JTR's down to 120hz, where i have a pair of jbl 4648's take over from 120 down to 40hz, then two RE XXX18's handle from 40hz down. Im still tweaking it, but it is unreal. Bottom line is measure your freq. response if you are able to and see what XO point fits best for your room and blends the best to your subs.

+1

Good advice.

All too often, individuals want info and hard and fast guidelines on how to config their room/system, Xover, etc ...when essentially every single scenario is different, ... with inherently varying requirements for a given target. Some may need double coverage of certain bandwidth, many may not. The room's shape and relative positions of everything, and the boundary impedances dictate one must measure, or you're merely flying blind.

Best of luck

If you want to see if the T12's are working properly, throw them in stereo mode and pump some bass music. My T12's don't do much when watching HT but look like they might jump out of the cabs when rocking some serious bass and spl!

I'm also wondering if Jeff had any plans of a sealed version of the Q8's. I'd love to grab a Quint 8s for my center channel and buy another sealed T8 to use for surround duty.

Maybe he would consider custom building you one.
