The dynamics are crushed while watching movies and the tonal quality sounds like HTIB when it's engaged. I'm getting a XTZ soon to help setup my new JTR system so I'll be sure to take some measurements of my current setup with Audssey on and off to see if I can quantify what I'm hearing. Regardless of the eq curve I swear Audssey is crushing they dynamics.
Long story short, if you are running Audssey turn it off and re watch a couple scenes to see if you like the sound better.
By all accounts you have a great system, hopefully we can help you get it sounding right.
Nope, no Audssey or any other EQ type settings. Did that several times and it really killed the system, it didn't know what to do with the JTR's and had them running -15 (or whatever the max - is) and the rear sB&W's at + max. I learned early on these JTR's need to come to life. I'll double check all the settings but I had the JTR's crossed over anywhere from 55hz all the way to 80 (THX?) and it didn't make a huge difference.
As for the wow factor, it's just not there on any level, not SQ, not volume and certainly not in the bass dept. Most times when I go close to reference level the one sub pops or bottoms out or something. All I'm saying is I have heard much better systems with far less $$ spent and not as high praised equipment. Granted the room is big, 24x37x8 but the seating area is right at about 12' from the screen, JTR's and the 2 Caps.
I'm frustrated to say the least. Doubt I am expecting too much because others have agreed, the system is good but not great.
