I talked briefly with Jeff today and he said he is running a bit behind compared to normal right now. My 10 piece system should ship this Friday which puts it at about 6 weeks lead time. The lead time has actually allowed me to get most of the rest of my theater finished, though not updated in my thread yet, and the speakers and subs will be about the last edition. It is almost like being a kid again waiting for that Disiney or beach vacation to come that seems so far away! I've been wanting a JTR system for a couple years now so the wait hasn't been toooo brutal. I hope to have some initial reports by the end of next week!

Well, looks like I just joined the club! I just bought 3 T8 Lp's from AVS member Stiltz. Great guy and very easy to work with. I know how Brady feels, I can't wait to have everything finished and set up. Now, I have to decide on the subs. I was considering the auction for the two caps and amp, but I think that they would overwhelm my smaller room (2300 cubic feet). I think that I will probably go with 2 18.1's from CHT. My long term plan is to get an 11.2 JTR setup, where I move the LP's to the back and just keep adding. I'm thinking of going with single slanted 8's for front heights.

I also wanted to say thanks to RMK! and Archaea for the help.

You are very welcome Mike and I know you will enjoy the T8's. I had a large crowd in the HT last night for The Avengers on BR. Waiting for the new JRT horn LCR's to arrive, I have a jury-rigged system with the Triple8LP's as the mains and Slanted 8's as center and surrounds. Although I could notice a difference from the T12 LCR's, no one else noticed (sort of an unsophisticated blind test tongue.gif) the changes. They really did a great job on a very dynamic and challenging soundtrack.

I'm surprised you aren't going for that excellent deal on the Caps. You would have all the sub you need for a very long time and, there is really no such thing as overkill with bass IMHO. wink.gif

Yeah, it's killing me. I'm on the fence right now. The wall that the Plasma will go on is only 11 ft. Two caps in that area may take up too much space. I suppose I could just try to sell one if it's too much...

With some isolation like these stick-on pads, the Caps would make excellent speaker stands for the T8's smile.gif

I have had a 2012 12lp for R&L with a 2012 T8lp for center for a while now. About two months ago I ordered another T12lp and another T8lp (they wer finished a month ago but I wasn't ready for them). I am moving the current T8lp to the rear along with the new T8lp. The new T12lp will go into the center. I am also expanding the AT to 135" to accomadate all 3 mains to go behind the screen. Right now I have 106" AT with center only behind the screen. I will set up the new configuration tmrw (with Jeff''s help). I will post pics once it is finished. The rears will be on tall bar height tables tmrw but once I figure out how I want to mount them I will post before during and after pics of the set up. Looking forward to blu ray concerts with the T8 rears.

Sounds great, looking forward to the photos and your impressions cool.gif. I have been using the T8LP's as side surrounds for over a year and they are fantastic. In fact, they make excellent mains and had I not been using T12's for LCR's, I would be completely happy with an T8LP LRC setup. Once you experience the Triple12's, you are spoiled. smile.gif

Wouldn't it be better to move the T8's to the sides vs. the rears when doing a 5.1 system?

I'm sure that is the intent unless there isn't enough room to accommodate side surrounds. There are several options but since these are point source, they could be toward the back of the side walls or, in the rear corners directed at or slightly behind the LP.

According to Jeff, the new horn/CD will have better directivity due to the horn and improved clarity though the mid-bass and high frequencies due to the upgraded CD.

Jeff has the cabinets and the CD's have arrived from Deutschland ...


How pathetic is it that I am reduced to posting pictures of component boxes ...tongue.gif

Would not an AT3000 with it's dead silent sn >123 db be a great companion for these new JTR speakers?

I assume that is an ATI amp ... confused.gif

If so, I suppose so. With their high sensitivity they can be driven with just about anything. To get the most out of them in larger spaces, the more watts, the better. When given the power, the current model T12's are just cruising long at 123db ... I expect these new speakers will do that and much more smile.gif. Why anyone would want that is a valid question. wink.gif

Yup..................ATI.........

With such high sensitivity of these speakers...........finding an amp with an extremely low noise floor would be a concern. I would imagine the 3000 paired with a front stage of these new horns would cruise along with ease.

Good point. I had a bit of hiss from the LCR's with my Wyred 4 Sound amps and called Rick Cullen (Cullen Circuits in Paso Robles CA makes the Wyred Amps) about it. Other than sending them back for testing his only suggestion was a cheater plug. That $.50 part did the trick but I don't like to think about it ... tongue.gif

The Wyred amp gives me up to 1000wpc for the LCR's and that seems adequate. smile.gif

I was amazed that you sold off your T12's so early to put yourself in the position of having to wait for the new speakers.

I can't imagine how amazing the new horns will sound in you room. I am still in awe of my pre HT model 2010 T8's with only 250 watts per channel.

It is probably best that I never experience T12's, just like it is probably best that I never drive a BMW M3. It might lead to unneeded expenditures.

Ok..........I must admit this new JTR horn has really sparked my interest.

For the last two plus years I've been planning, researching products while waiting for my home to sell. After traveling up and down the West Coast from Seattle to LA I've auditioned just about every speaker the market has to offer. After a few PM's with respected members at AVS, I've had my sights on Triad Platinums and Gold Surrounds, but with the huge loss I've taken selling my home, I'm looking for alternatives to the Plats.

I've never heard the Plats, but intend to have a listen next time I'm in LA but trying to have a listen to these ID speaker products is next to impossible. From what I've gathered from various PM's the Seaton Catalysts are in the same sound catagory as the Plats (respected AVS member has heard both) but I'm not looking for active speakers as the plan is for a separate equipment room-- heat is a major issue as I'm more comfortable in cooler environments!

With that said, my favorite listening sessions have come from PHC ie Proaudio Technology speakers using SCR-12's for LCR and SCRS-8's for surround duty. I also forced myself into auditioning a Klipsch Ultra 2 7.2 system which I thought I'd absolutely hate but was shocked how a well treated room tamed the system completely. Due to my age, ie. eye sight and hearing is fading, I have had several notions concerning audio which are proving to be wrong.

I'm really interested in hearing how these new JTR horns work out..............and gathering information on mating surrounds with these speakers. The JTR slant 8's are out of the question due to size and listening distances........ie. all surround speakers will be hidden in column. Curious how Triad Gold Surrounds would match with these new JTR horns.

I was thinking that too but when you consider:

The CD alone cost $750
Horn cost ???
New Crossover $300-400 (hand built by Jeff)
The cabinet (although similar to the T12) needs to be modified for the horn.

Bottom line is unless you can sell the old coax/CD and crossover (I didn't want to hassle with that), it just doesn't make financial sense. You could sell the T12's and buy the new Horns for approx the same number. smile.gif

You're in Oregon correct? Depending upon where, Sacramento isn't that far and you could come here for a demo once I get them setup. Also, the Single 8's are smaller than the Slanted 8's and use the same coax/CD. I am temporarily using a Slanted 8 as my center channel and after a couple of movies and some music, I am amazed how good it sounds.

In any case, the offer stands so PM me if you want to do this and we can look at some possible dates.

thanks,didnt know it was that much $$$$! How much are the new 12s each? The drivers in the 12s are made in Ky and can be bought at Parts Express forgot the name.
