Dropping in to post a thanks to RMK for selling me his triple 12s. As mentioned in my email he posted, I love these things!! I haven’t been on AVS in days and days because I’m off watching movies. I have wanted JTRs for years and when the opportunity came, I couldn’t pass it up. RMK, you are The Man. Thank you.
I’ve spent several years planning and building a dedicated room. I went “all out” on careful room treatments, GOM fabric, stage construction/isolation, and equipment. When the time came to fire up my little (by comparison) Niles StageFronts I was a bit let down. The sound was missing that special something. The Niles surrounds were fine but the front stage was frustrating me. The room and experience was good but not amazing. I had expected to be the guy in that Maxell cassette ad, but nope…
Here are the 2770LCRs on stands with my screen removed:
I’d exchanged emails in the past with RMK about my DHC-80.1 pre/pro and recently had another question for him when the speaker subject came up. DONE! SOLD! Barely fit them into my car.
Old vs. new:
At home, Audyssey annoyed me with its -12dB limits but some line attenuators solved that. These speakers are amazingly efficient and my amp has no trim adjustment. I’m really astounded by what high efficiency speakers really are now that I have some. They really barely bother my amp, even in the treated room that is open to the house’s airspace. So cool!
I’m in a 10’x21’ room with about 50% of it treated with OC 703. I regularly ran the Niles fronts at 0/reference level. Ho hum. Attempting that with the JTRs, even with the attenuators, is too much. When that DTS bomb, I mentioned to RMK, went off I almost needed a diaper change. I’ve been comfortable at about a -10 volume level now and 0/reference is hair-raising. NOW I’m the Maxell guy!
Dominating the stage:
Poor little subwoofer holding up the center. It absolutely cannot keep up at all.
It’s been said many many times on this thread and I’m so lucky I get a chance to say it too: Jeff – your speakers and your ear are amazing. In all those years of drooling over a trio of Triple 12s, never could I imagine how satisfying and immersive watching movies and listening to music could be thanks to your speakers. The value here is incredible. The quality is exactly what I had hoped for too – absolutely bullet proof (and DTS bomb-proof!) The sound signature (rather, lack thereof actually) is incredible and now I know what everyone meant by: dynamics, attack, clarity, veils being lifted, perfect for movies and music, and so on. It really is like being there. Thank you Jeff, and my compliments Sir.
As these things go in the hobby, the JTRs have my subs gasping for life. Now I’m saving for a pair of Captivators. Nothing like having a lung collapse watching “War of the Worlds” with Captivator quality bass!
