Looks like having a demo of the Noesis done at my home isn't going to happen. I am looking forward to hearing the T12's and T8's in a few weeks, as that will be my only option of listening to JTR speakers before purchasing them.

Room treatments are on my list to get done soon. Any recommendations on where to look?

ats acoustics makes a good product and can even do them custom. Not too expensive either. I used their 2 inch and 4 inch thick panels.

I have both GIK (approx 20 2'X4') and ATS (approx 8 including some custom size) panels. I agree with Beastaudio's statement ^ about ATS being a very good panel for the money. In fact, although the GIK is a good product the they are helpful ... if I had a do-over I would be all ATS.
Interesting scenario I am considering....

1. Pick up three of the T8's that a forum member is selling used. Then use the extra money I saved to add room treatments to my room and possibly a third sub.

2. Go all in and get three of the Noesis speakers and wait on the room treatments...

Still need to listen to JTR speakers before any decision is made.

Just want to make sure that I get the setup that will give me a significant increase in dynamics and performance...

I have turned into "that guy" who is annoying in threads...haven't I?

Thank you for the suggestions. I have contacted GIK to get the ball rolling. I will also take a look at ATS and see what they have to offer.

I will just throw in I have also had really good luck with acoustimac. Good value and independent testing.

Side note, I just signed up for direct tv. Never had it before, always cable. I've heard I'll see improvement since some of the channels are 1080p, that would be very nice tv looks great already.

It's a big step up in quality from cable. It is the same as watching the extra HD dvd that comes with most BR's. The sound quality is great. Its worth it just for that. The only thing that is better is Blu-Rays.

Just my 2 cents...I would spend all you could on the Noesis and add the treatments later. It will minimize the upgrade-itis disease that most of us have. You can always add treatments later. But buy lesser speakers and you will always wonder.

Last night I was of course listening to music as usual, and I played one of my wife's recent purchases from itunes. The group is called il Divo and the song was a remake of Chris Isaac's Wicked Game. These guys are opera style singers, so obviously not my cup of tea, but I heard it before when she first bought it an noticed how good it sounded on the Noesis. Well, last night I cranked up that song and it was un-frickin-believable how good it sounded. I had chills (most I've ever had listening to music at home), goose bumps, and was laughing to myself all at the same time. Pure audio bliss with a style of music that I don't even like. smile.gif

Anyone that has Spotify, you should check it out especially if you have Noesis - David your Salks would love this one too.

Coach, you gotta go all the way and get the Noesis. I agree with dlbeck, you will always wonder what if...

That's surprising to me, anything that I play from my iPhone whether is from iTunes or a ripped CD always sounds pretty crappy. If I want to listen to music I find myself heading to the basement to find the box full of old CD's.

Any tricks for getting it to sound so good from iTunes?
Thanks Carp. I'll check it out.

Wow, that's an awesome deal! I'm a bit jealous of the person that will be able to score those.

How would you guys describe your JTR speakers? After all these years of owning the Triple 12LF I still think they are a bit too bright to me. Hopefully after a good dialing in of my system with the new CHT subs it will sound awesome. I've always felt they were bright and never well integrated with the subs.

Can't wait to hear the Neosis. After that it will be major decision time for me, continue with JTR or go back to a B&W type speaker with a silky smooth high and nice solid mid.

Biggest improvement would be the T8's and room treatments, An average speaker in a really good room will beat a fantastic speaker in a crappy room, every time. Still something to be said for taking the slow route and getting what you want a few pieces at a time. smile.gif

Ok Carp. That's the last fricken song I thought you would say was "unbelievable". It's a far cry from Opeth and dream theater. You ok? Not feeling well...a little depressed that you had to go back to work? :-)

I agree with what most is saying. Go with the Noesis. I understand that even a semi good speaker with room treatment will outperform a world class speaker without. However, let's say you bought the T8, then treated your room. Now what? You'll still be wondering how much better the Noesis would be. And then you'll have to sell your T8, and buy the Noesis, with a significant loss. Might as well, just get the Noesis, then when you save up for room treatment, you'll then have all you need.

BTW: Even simple room treatments can improve the sound significantly. You can DIY that part, example, buy some acoustic panels on the cheap, until you can afford an all out room treatment plan.

Just an example from this Audio guy who sells home theater equipment. He was telling me that $300 worth of acoustic panels that he installs for his clients would yield so much more benefits than upgrading 'wires, amps, speakers, etc, etc'. The 'wire' part especially, when people are spending over $1000 bucks on them... I personally think they are a waste of money.

Haha, yeah but I had it cranked so loud... I'm telling you it sounded amazing over here. I felt like those guys were in the room right in front of me, waves of bass, man it was great. I'm going to demo it for Kevin and Jonathan tomorrow and see if it's just me.... smile.gif
post #6741 of 18708
And yes, I'm a bit depressed about having to go back to work. Jonathan just invited me to go out and play and I'm too old and tired. frown.gif

I play everything off my computer that is connected to my receiver. I've A/B'd higher bit rate mp3's and cd's and I can't tell if there is a difference or if I just think there is. I have a lot of FLAC files too, and dvd audio disks, the dvd audio stuff sounds better but that is really dependent on the individual disk.

I guess maybe I've never been in a room that is treated correctly. I had 6 GIK 242 panels in here once upon a time, and I prefer the sound without. I kept the tri traps for the front corners, but I thought the room sounded too dead with the 6 panels. Now, that was when I had Magnepan speakers, so who knows with the Noesis.

I don't know... I thought the Noesis sounded amazing in the park, in my room, in Jonathan's room, in David's room.... I don't know if I believe that the room is more important than the speaker. Sometime I'm going to have Luke Kamp bring over some of his treatments and see if I like it better. It's hard to imagine it can get much better than it is now.

Ok, enough posting already. Time to sleep.

Tried to add a picture to show the front of my room...not sure if it worked :confused:though.

Hi. How far apart is your LR and how big is your room?

I thought I am settled with the T8-lp, but then all these comments about getting the best and not regret is killing me ....maybe I should get the neosis LP?

From the time your T12's were made 09 to the present 2012 T12HT's there has been at least 2 mabey even 3 CD & crossover upgrades that were supposedly BIG improvements especially with music. You can read back through the thread and find out about it or ask anyone on here who did it what they think. I would call Jeff and see whats up. I believe it was about $300 per speaker. If you plan on keeping them for a while its worth it.

Hey, just wait until the Noesis get their first update and the crossover is tweaked. Suddenly the new Noesis will be the #%%# and the old version will sound so yesterday tongue.gif

Kind of how I was thinking too, that the Neosis is an all around much better speaker. I'll find out for myself on April 13. That is going to be a fun day for sure.

That may be along wait.smile.gif That is a brand new CD in the horn so unless they made some kind of mistake it will be here for quite awhile.
If SeaNile is thinking of going to the Noesis than that would be $300. saved on each speaker toward the purchase.wink.gif
