Horses for courses I guess.smile.gif

With a controlled directivity speaker like the Noesis, a lot of toe-in should just help the front sound stage. Here is a good explanation of why: http://www.pispeakers.com/Pi_Speakers_Info.pdf[/URL
Toe-in using a woven AT screen should not have much negative affect. At least not enough that I would give up on using toe-in. I have had my mains toed-in, outside my AT screen and behind my AT screen. I could not tell a difference.

I was talking about the Triple 12's Mike and know the theory regarding toe-in and controlled directivity speakers. A good read none the less smile.gif:

Haha, I was toldright before Beyonce came on by all the ladies present that I "needed to turn it up for halftime" We were already at -10 at that point so I cranked it to +2 and let them have a blast watching. It didn't feel like a normal +2 experience as I felt the levels were much lower than say, a BD disc at +2, but it was still loud, and they loved it.

I'm considering upgrading from T8's to Noesis, but my smaller room dimensions and speaker placement limitations (due to a fireplace in the corner) have me concerned that the horn patterns aren't going to cover the seats on either end. Is there any type of calculator or online application where you can plug in room dimensions and speaker locations to see the coverage patterns, or is it easier to just break out the ruler and protractor and do it by hand?

Also, how do the S2's compare to the Submersive HP's? I know someone said that 1 S2's total output is equal to 2 Sub HP's, but how does the sound quality compare? If crossing over at 70-80Hz, will the 2 18's do as well as the HP's 2 15's?

This is the Noesis dispersion pattern from Jeff, no protractor needed ... smile.gif

Jeff just posted pics of a prototype Noesis 228HT, featuring the same cabinet and 8" woofers as the T8HT and the same 1" compression driver and horn from the Noesis 2AX. Looks nice and features horn loading down to 1khz. Maybe some one could save the pictures from Facebook and post them here. I'm at a press screening right now.

sweet, i was curious if he was gonna make an 8in version. wonder if he brings them to the g2g in april be interesting to hear them with everything else that is penciled to show up

WOW! haha I've had a few pm's with Jeff and I asked him a couple times if he had plans to make a smaller version of the Noesis HT speakers closer to the size of the Triple 8ht's but I never heard back from him. I guess my wish has come true! Looks like I've found my new LCR speakers for my theater room!!! biggrin.gif I wonder if there would be a pre-order discount? Or does Jeff even do that anymore?

he ran one for the Noesis

And that's what I get for taking a break from this site. Damn, I could have been a Noesis owner by now!

Man I started reading this thread from the first page and I'm about up to page 102 now, this has been a lot of reading on JTR speakers!..lol
But it's good because it makes me more confident about going with JTR over Ascend Acoustics Sierra towers and matching center in my theater room.

Here's a link to the new Noesis 228HT speakers. http://jtrspeakers.websitetoolbox.com/post/Noesis-228HT-6197559

Funny you mention that. I had the same conversation with him a couple of weeks ago as he was building my second S2. I told him one reason I couldn't upgrade from my T12 L/R and T8 center configuration is because I don't have room for a center speaker as large as the Noesis (my center is horizontally placed)....now that sneeky bastage removed my objection eek.giftongue.gifsmile.gif

Crap, now I might have to put my T12s and T8 center up for sale. Better think this through before I make an impulse purchase . Maybe some AVS member is looking for a good deal on some JTR speakers wink.gif

I have narrowed down my list of speakers to audition to the Noesis, catalyst 12C, or danley SH-50s. I read there will be a get together in April with noesis and catalyst. Can someone point me to that thread (if there is one?) I'd love to make the GTG. I really need to hear these three and find out if there may be any Danleys present as well.

Well, the grass is always greener ... smile.gif

That said, the 228HT is very cool looking and should be a good sonic match for a Noesis 212 L&R pair. Nice job Jeff! cool.gif

mmm 228HT

very interesting indeed...

So without anyone hearing the 228HT yet, could we expect it to has the same advantage over the Triple 8HT that the Noesis 212HT has over the Triple 12HT?

Seriously ... you're asking folks to speculate on that ??? Anyone (except Jeff) who attempts to answer this should be ashamed of themselves. tongue.gifwink.gif
post #7162 of 8265
i think we can speculate that the 228 wont be the same as the noesis212

from this alone, we can tell there is a big difference in capabilities

I'll bite then biggrin.gif The benefits of the horn over the coaxial is the first +1, the second is the horn loading/matched directivity down to 1khz. Measuring the directivity will prove this. If there wasn't a significant reason and performance benefit with going to a horn, then why would Jeff even be doing it? It is merely design here, as a horn done properly will always have a better dispersion pattern than a coaxial. So in effect, yes, it will have similar benefits over the 8ht's as the noesis has over the T12's. Once again, PURELY from a design standpoint, this is an upgrade, that will improve on the speaker's sonic capabilities. I don't feel so ashamed either right now....because I already know the merits and benefits of using well designed horns in HT.

Thanks Beast! seems like a fairly logical theory. I can't wait to hear some feed back on these, I was all set on getting the Triple 8HT's for my LCR's in my theater room. Now I'll have to wait and see how this plays out.
