Purple one is after Audyssey. I do have dynamic EQ ON so that practically add about 6-8dB to the low end.
so, I see about 83dB when I reference to about 75dB. I do have my OS facing the wall (about 2-3 ft away) so that would add a few.. I actually try to move it closer, but then it gets really crazy so i need to pull it out to not localize it.

I have to say I had a "JTR moment" last night. Bought Skyfall and had my brother in law over for movie night. On the subway crash scene my S2 subwoofers were howling. My brother looks over at me and literally says "holy crap!!!" and I just smiled. No signs they hit there limit either ...just clean...loud...deep....accurate bass. Have to admit it was up there in scenes that cause tactile moments and feels like the house might come down. eek.gifsmile.gif

Those are great moments cool.gif and I am really looking forward to Skyfall. I sold my PJ and have a new one on the way (turns out it's the same PJ you have) so it may have to wait a week or so... :-(

I also had some JTR moments this morning as I installed Noesis front stage last night and worked with REW today a little. They sound fantastic. i didn't have much work to do because the bass region has already been worked extensively. Just played with the crossover freq and slopes for the mains a little. I ended up with the same settings as the T12lp. Even at the same setting(80hz, 12bd/octave) the overall response for the vented is better below the xo point. I also include some full range comparisons. The big improvement is in the clarity of sound. The biggest improvement I am noticing right away is the sounstage for music in the rear of the room (approx 20-25ft back) is much improved. It seems like the horns pattern control send more energy directly back to the rear of the room without interacting with the room.

Noesis loaded and ready to go, and some graphs. mic is not too accurate above 10k. The dark purple and brown is T12 lp, the red/pruple and green is Noesis. Both are the left and right speaker positions run at the same level with mic in the exact same position..
Noesis with subs running too

rear of the room is the biggest improvement I have noticed in the first hour of listening

Oh yeah new improved look of the sound panel too. Priniting turned out great, think I will do all of them in the back of the room with more movies poster coverings.

Awesome!! Looks great, I hope to have my center vertical some day too. Be careful, you might get addicted to listening to music.

Man that is Nice. That computer set-up is sweet looking. Take your time and get fully aquainted with the new equipment then when ready please tell me what the overall improvements are over your T12's.
You have a Very Nice room.

Thanks, I thought you hard core heavy metal guys would laugh more at my hair band poster;) I like metal too probably not to the extent as some around here though. In the first several hours it been almost exclusively music. Try out a movie or two tonight. Music is so good on these things at all volumes.

Haha, no, no, to each his own. I like music with the cookie monster on vocals for god's sake. smile.gif Hey, some hair band music is great too. My favorite band in the early/mid 80's was Ratt! I had yet to be exposed to Metallica, Slayer, etc.

Has Jeff released the pre-order pricing yet? I sent him a pm on the JTR forum but hadn't heard back from him. I know he's really busy and calling is always the best bet to talk to him but I've just been way to busy and I'm on the west coast so I never tried calling past 4pm pacific time.

The 228HTs?

I might know a little something about them!

cool.gif

But my lips are sealed until I've had some time with them. So far they are very very very nice!

I suppose I could go ahead and let it be known that I have absolutely no problem recommending them!

They are smooooooooooooth..........

Oh man Archaea, please shoot me a pm with your impressions please! I'm totally on the fence what to go with between the 228ht, Triple 8ht and Triple 12ht-lp.

I read this before I watched it and I have to say that I was sort of disappointed and thought that it was a bit of a letdown. Until I realized that you weren't talking about the scene on the train! When I got to the scene that you were talking about, I had the exact same "jtr moment". Great stuff.

I am about to place an order of 228ht as well. I am just waiting for the pricing and order from Jeff. Please do shoot me pm about your impression and pricing if you have it.

That is very cool. So the beta program has begun and you are it wink.gif. I can't think of a better or more deserving choice. The 228 might just become the new reference standard for HT. It certainly bears consideration as such.cool.gifcool.gifcool.gif

Haha, I knew you'd spill it!!! It was killing me not to say anything... took all I had actually. I'm not one to be trusted with information, I like to blab.

We are comparing the Noesis and the mini Noesis tomorrow morning at my place. Impressions to come. Should be fun - love those pics man, they look really nice.

Jonathan is actually the inspiration for these speakers, talked Jeff into building a cheaper speaker that had the characteristics of the Noesis. We shall see. smile.gif

Congrats Jonathan!! Very much looking forward to the comparison to the 212s. biggrin.gif

I believe the 228 uses a 1" exit CD, correct? It will be interesting to hear if you guys can pick out the differences between the 2 and 3 way designs. cool.gif
post #7258 of 8265
Off topic (of course) how many of you guys are gamers? I know Jonathan is at least somewhat. I had never hooked one up to the system before last night. Some friends came over with an x box 360 and kinect was the coolest thing ever. The only non kinect game we played was halo 4 and I have to say I was disappointed with the bass and overall audio. I thought it would be like movie bass. All the games looked awesome though - somehow I threw the javelin over 120 meters...yeah that's not humanly possible but oh well it was fun! I'm going to have to get one. 200 bucks? Is that really right? How can I not...

Back on topic, yeah it will be very interesting. I have a feeling the lower crossover of the big Noesis will be noticeable (big boy is 400hz isn't little brother around 1khz?) I could be wrong though and am looking forward to finding out.

Also I want to set it up so that Jonathan compares them blind. Not sure how I'm going to do that, I think I left all my cloth at David's. Still, if we have the speakers side by side I wonder if you'd be able to tell which is playing even if you can see them.
Congrats Archaea. Would love to hear them.
Carp,

Something is off with the Halo 4 sound mix, its just weak if you wanna see what proper sound out of a video game is like go and get Battlefield 3, with a setup like yours it will literally sound like you have a tank in your house. its hands down the most accurate sounding video game ive ever heard. Set the sound settings to "War Tapes" and be prepared to see your house walk off its foundation
