Coach, doing the upgrade is not hard, just takes a bit of time. And I promise working inside the T12s will be much easier than working inside the small 2010 T8 cabs. I had to change some wiring when I did my upgrade and had to go get some crimp connectors and then just make sure all wiring is long enough before screwing down the xover.

Blazing new trails are we? wink.gif
I'm interested in why you chose these over the Noesis 212's. My apologies if you explained this in an earlier post. smile.gif

Size and weight RMK. Jeff has always put inserts in my JTRs and I've mounted them to my M&K ST1 stands....tilt and swivel capability. The 212s are just too big and heavy to do that. wink.gif

Interesting ... so the horn is in the top position and they will be up on stands? Your gonna need that tilt ... smile.gif

I'd be interested in how that new 10" woofer performs as compared to the 12" in the Noesis 212. cool.gif

Well the M&K stands are pretty slick RMK. It's a 52lbs base, in which screws a 1" pipe(can get at any Home Depot or Lowes) On top of the pipe screws on the M&K tilt/swivel bracket that attaches to the speakers. So you just go to HD and get whatever length pipe you need cut so that the horn will be at ear level. And of course you have some tilt if needed and swivel if you want to aim them directly at the listening position, or a little toe-in etc. There is a plastic sheath that snaps over the pipe to give it a more pleasing appearance. I absolutely love them and that's why I've kept them long after getting rid of my M&K speakers. wink.gif

That's cool Kevin. Anxious to hear your impression of the 3TX's.smile.gif

Sorry if I missed it, does the 3tx have the same compression driver as the residential model?

I'm concerned that the screws or bolts will pull thu with all the speaker weight at the top.

Kevin said (above) that he has Jeff add "inserts" into his speakers and I assume they are for that exact reason. In boat building we call them butt blocks. smile.gif

The 3TX has same horn and CD as the 212, but dual neo 10" woofers. The 2AX, 2TX, T12, T8, 228, all S8s use a 1" CD though I don't think the same one in every model. The 2TX has large horn with 1" CD. The 2AX has smaller horn with 1" CD. The 228 small horn w/ 1" CD. The 212 and 3TX large horn with 1.4" coax CD. I'm pretty sure this is correct

The inserts and 1/4-20 hardware are solid as a rock in a thick baltic birch cabinet. Again, my 2010 T8s are only about 50-55 lbs each. I don't think I would do this with the 75lb current T8s. The 3TXs are also just about 50-55lbs each.

Since we often share information on this thread and this is where I first saw Art of Flight recommended, which is my go to demo disk. I thought I would give a shout out to Skyfall and Game of Thrones. Both are just stunning on blu ray. I have read it is because they are both shot on Alexas 4k cameras but man are they breath taking video presentations. Audio is fantastic on both as well but the video quality really stands out to me. My wife and I just got hooked on Game of Thrones (I know, we are late to the party) but it is very well acted and produced and as I mentioned the blu ray video is just jaw dropping. When my wife starts making comments about the video quality, you know it is awesome because she generally doesn’t care if we are watching 480I or 1080P.

The Noesis & 3TX use the BMS 4594 CD (I think) What CD does the 228 & 2TX use? Is it the same CD thats in the T12's just attached to a horn?

A bit OT, but I agree on the VQ. The show itself I'm not crazy about, but then again I've been reading the Game of Thrones novels since the late 90's - long before any one I knew, knew George RR Martin's name. The characters and mythos is far too ingrained in my head to easily accept the liberties taken with the series. Not that I think they had a choice. I never thought this story could be made for movies or TV since it is far too epic, too many characters, and NOT PC. But, then again, the author never thought it could happen either smile.gif.

I'm glad to see it's having success if only for the fact that it validates 15 years of telling people who never heard of it, "you have to read "A Song of Ice and Fire", it's a great series"

Edit: Also, I think "A Song of Ice and Fire" is the title that captures the true story - but I suppose that is not a very catchy TV title smile.gif.

I think all other JTR speakers, besides the 212 and 3TX, use a 1" CD. I don't know which model(s) CD and I don't think the same 1" CD is used across all other JTR speakers.

While we are talking about movies, my wife rented Hit and Run from redbox the other day. It has an awesome Lincoln continental with 700hp. The sound from that car was so good I had to watch a few scenes twice. Really deep rumble. It's an okay movie but I could listen to that car all day.

Kevin, I am about to get a stand for my 228 as well.
I am not handy and don't have equipment to make a stand myself. Jeff sold stands for $200 a piece, and I know it will match well, but what you have here looks awesome too. Where can I find those and how much?

It'll be tough. M&K USA went out of business several years ago. You might get lucky and find some on Ebay or Audiogon etc but it's probably a long shot. The M&K ST1 stands are the big ones with a 52lb base. The ST2 stands only have a 25lb base and aren't sturdy enough. It doesn't appear as though the new MK Sound or Ken Kreisel are making the stands any longer.

Maybe that belongs on a demo disk. Seems like most everything is explosions and gun shots, I don't think I've seen a demo scene with a loud car engine.
Wow, epic fail on my part for not proof reading my post. I posted that while on my phone. Anyways, I would need to watch it again. I'm not sure it would be an easy scene to cut for a demo. I'll look into it though.

The Alexa max resolution is 2.8k I believe and I think the film was shot in 2k. Still goes to show that 1080p looks awesome with a good transfer:D

JTR moment.

I caught the end of the newest Underworld movie right before the credits roll. The song that plays as the credits start rolling sounds awesome!! I don't know how loud I cranked it but I couldn't stop turning it up, it sounded so good. I guess it was a JTR/Seaton moment because the bass is incredible too.

I don't know what the song is called, and maybe it won't sound as good when it's not on the movie (kind of like how the song from the movie Drive doesn't sound as good to me on spotify as it does on the movie) You guys that have movie should go to the beginning of the credits and let it rip. smile.gif

Sounds awesome Carp. Nothing more satisfying then enjoying our equipment knowing our "investment" is paying off through sheer enjoyment.

As a general rule, I listen to the soundtract over the closing credits on most Bluray films. That is where the music director get's to show his (or her) stuff and there have been some real jewels there. Flight of the Phoenix comes to mind ...

It is actually a pretty good movie too. I think it also premiers on one of the TV stations on Directv this weekend or something, I just don't remember which one, but I saw a preview for it just the other day smile.gif
