@Beast. LOL! I wish I had some woodworking and speaking building skills. If that was the case, I'd purchase three Fusion 12 Tempests for L/C/R and two Fusion Maxes for surrounds. I am scared to death of buying such high quality parts and screwing up the crossover design or not assembling the cabinets properly.

Maybe I will be some Overnight Sensations and practice.

BTW, you have an amazing setup!
Thanks!! Keep in mind though, subs require no crossovers, and are a bit easier to build out, especially when going sealed. I don't even have a pic up of the new completed setup with the 8 sealed 18's. I guess I need to get on that eek.gif

So now that I'm back from a week in Costa Rica, I will now have some money to spend on surrounds!

Those of you who have used T8's and Slanted 8's as surrounds, I'm looking to hear your opinion on this subject.

Here is a panoramic pic of my setup (taken before my stands were in place).

If you look on the far wall you can see the speaker jack where the speakers will be plugged into. I plan on mounting the speakers to the side of the jack that is closer to the screen. As you can see there is a gap on my left side between the seating area and the wall where my left surround will be placed. So there is going to be different distances between the 2 speakers and the listening area.

My main question is I'm wondering if the T8's would be overkill for this vs the Slanted 8's. Like will I even notice a difference at all since these will be surround usage? I probably will never listen to actual 5.1 music in this area and it will be strictly for gaming/movies/tv. I also plan on most likely purchasing these speakers used so I'm not looking at the retail prices.

So anyone have any opinion on the matter here? The room is about 20x26, and the seating area is about 13ft or so back from the screen. If you couldn't tell, those are T12's and Caps that these surrounds will be paired with.

Would I be just wasting money on purchasing T8's to match the speakers as I won't get much out of them over the Slanted 8's?

I personally don't think you would notice any difference between T8s vs S8s as surrounds in a 5.1 or 7.1 system......especially if no surround music.

The closer I get to purchasing, I'm beginning to think maybe I should check out the S8's and then if they aren't enough, to grab the T8's. I also don't want the T12's to be overkill for the S8's as surrounds, but I also think since I went overkill with the T12's, why not with the T8's too lol? But in reality, the S8's are a much cheaper option and probably in reality, as you stated, won't make much difference at all as surrounds, if at all.

However, if your T8's are still available, he could buy all three for the cost of 2 slanted 8's new and just buy a 4th T8 from Jeff if he ever wanted to go to 7.1.

Oh trust me I've already been in talks with him about his speakers smile.gif

Thing is, I can also get used S8's for cheaper than used T8's, which I'm wondering if I might as well just do that at this point. I'm also pretty confident that at this point I will never go past 5.2 in my current home, as I simply don't have the room for it to make any worthwhile difference to me.

Problem I'm finding is very very few used JTR speakers around, some 888 but I haven't found any used slants or single 8's. I'm gonna go with new 3 x 228HT for LCR and would like to find used single 8 LP's (need narrow depth) for sides and slants for rears...

I haven't seen any come up in a couple of years. I was trying to find the same thing. I think that people who get them, keep them. They may upgrade their LCR, but have no need to upgrade from their single or slanted 8's.

Now this doesn't make any sense at all unless you brought something back that probably shouldn't be here in the first place biggrin.gif

Also, SPRAY THAT SUPPORT BLACK OR SOMETHING!!!! You might get some reflections into the projector's main lighting of the screen

Get the Single 8LP's and be done with it. You will love em ... smile.gif

Well I think I'll get the slanted 8's not just the normal ones, since they will be up above ear level and angled down a bit.

Oh and that pole isn't in the line of sight at all of the projector, and no one watching can see any reflection on it anyways if there is one. Ideally I want to put up drywall around it, but I'm not handy enough yet to do that myself lol.

Oh and by coming back from Costa Rica and now having money, I meant I don't have to save for the trip anymore and now have some disposable income.

So I'm completely new to the speaker world, never have owned a pair of speakers in my life. I bought a 80" Sharp and decided it was time to change that. So I did a lot of reading and asked a lot of questions on this forum, thanks RMK and everyone else who answered my questions, and decided on the JTRs. I found a pair of T8s and i jumped on them and will be using them as my L/R. I then found an S2 for sale and got that too. I recently ordered a S8-LP for my center channel from Jeff and will hopefully be getting that shortly. in the near future I will be getting two slanted 8s for my surrounds and hopefully that will complete my setup.

I sit back almost 13' and had planned on lowering my tv about 3-4" and mount the center channel under the tv. Now that I got the S2 in, I have 15.5" of space between my tv and sub, so thats no longer an option. Now I'm thinking of just placing the S8 on top of the sub and not actually mounting it. If i did that, what would I need to place, if anything, between the sub and the center channel?

I will be getting stands for the L/R to bring them up to ear level. Just added a pic to show my setup so far. Thanks to everyone for their posts and information. I'm sure I'll have more questions once I start wiring this up.

I use eight 4x4x7/8 rubber isolation pads bought from ebay for $24 shipped to isolate my quintuple center channel from the S2.

You are most defiantly on your way to a "go big or go home" system!

They won't be visible unless you place them on the corner, which you don't need to.

Wow, that is pretty much my system. Those are exactly the 3 speakers I was enjoying so much last night for 2 channel music, except it took me 16 years and more system configurations than I can count to get there. Nice job!

Rooms looks fantastic...well done. For surrounds, get whatever you think is "better". If they are equal in your mind then go for the one that costs less. If somewhere in your mind you think the T8s are "better", then just spend the money once, get them, and enjoy them forever.
