So...I hate to try inviting myself to someone's home here, but I think I have to hear the JTR Noesis speakers! After reading all the glowing reviews and the volume exploits had at the NE GTG (wish I were there, caught the thread much too late when it was full
then had other plans and could not attend even if a spot opened up) I really need to see if this is the speaker for me. I'd certainly need a custom finish to pass WAF (likely a grill, too, if possible) all of which I'm sure, for the right $ amount, it sounds like Jeff would do for me. But, I *need* to hear it first.
I'm going in biased here, and I think I'll love it...but...I have to know, lol. I come from horns, my dad had them in some very large voice of theater speakers when I was little, I had them in my $10k IASCA winning car setup, and I would love to have them again. Unfortunately, nothing from Klipsh does it for me. I was considering their Palladium line, it looks pretty has the horn efficiency, and can probably close to keep up. But, it's $20k MSRP for the front TWO...and that's hard a hard pill to swallow (or more accurately to shove down the wife's throat, lol).
So...I'm really hoping that the compression drivers in these babies, plus working with Jeff on a custom finish, will be a winner. I have a 19x15x8 room that is open in the rear to a much larger space (which then is open to the rest of the house), so it's hard to fill. Coupled with the fact that when I'm rocking out, I can't keep my grubby fingers off the volume button (until I blow a driver, which I've done frequently enough to cause me to put my poor little Paradigm Studio's back on my receiver where I'll hear the clipping before I overheat and kill them, lol) makes me want desperately to find something with enough efficiency and good clean sound to keep the concert monkey off my back all while maintaining musicality at lower levels when I'm just chilling looking for goosebumps.
I know it's hard to do...somehow my car system used to do it, though, so I know there's audio nirvana out there for me somewhere...but...I haven't found it yet :-(.
For the record -- my current gear is:
Paradigm Studio 60's (poor guys...they've been put through hell and back with me at the helm, lol -- especially so once I got my....)
Seaton Sound Submersive HP (cuz now the sub isn't the limiting factor and my mains just can't keep up...).
Parasound Halo A21 (not in use right now because it overpowers my Studios)
If I get these, I'll probably try to put them on the Halo. But, it does have a bit of an idle hum (don't know if it's normal...keep meaning to send it off to Parasound for a check-up, even bought the shipping boxes and have a probably year old RA #, lol...ugh, procrastinator is me) and I may find that the efficiency exposes it. If so, may look to W4S for some Class D efficiency, or if that doesn't do it, Bryston as they are always well regarded and have a few more power options than Parasound. Of course, the Denon will probably power them just fine...but...given my penchant for loud, and their 4 ohm load...I figure I'd smoke it sooner rather than later, lol.
Anyway....All that long windedness aside -- anyone in the NJ/PA area (maybe NY, but that's a heck of a drive, I'm in NJ by Atlantic City) want to offer me a self-invited (sorry again, lol) demo?
Thanks, all! Looking forward to meeting an AV geek with a passion for this -- most of my buddies just "don't get it" and think I'm crazy for spending any kind of money on this stuff. Ugh, really upset I missed that GTG :-(.
