The 228s are 14" deep which is why I think he's saying he can't use the 228 as a center. I would either make the 1/2 inch work or call Jeff and see if he has a 228-LP. It is the same setup as the T8 so maybe it'd work, I dunno.

I am by now very near to closing the deal on the Noesis setup.
Will be 212 HT LP for LCR and the 228 HT' s as surrounds.

Sounds like a really nice setup! What subs are you using with the noesis , and are you doing
7ch etc. ?

Room finally painted(midnight blue).........Black Diamond mounts up.........S8s mounted up...........AC run( a return and two registers)..............3rd 3TX received and mounted up waiting to go in. Getting close. Carpet last thing then I get to move stuff in cool.gif
Oh yeah, in that 2nd pic, I took the Omni Mount Tria shelf down that the 5020UB was going to be on. It's just not solid enough and sags too much. Had to crank the feet on the projector all the way up and still couldn't get projector level. I'm gonna mount a Chief WM120 wall mount with a Chief RPMAU on the end of it. That should be more adjustment than I need and I can even adjust the throw length a bit if desired.

I've heard that exact setup with dual Cap 2 sealed subs - so good man. Congratulations and enjoy it. If you aren't much of a music guy you might start to notice that changing. smile.gif

My thoughts exactly.smile.gif
I already have 2 captivators, passive version.

Unfortunately no room for extra channels.

Thanks, but I still have one sale of audio gear to clear and so far this one is a very tough nut to crack.

Your experience with the Noesis made me consider them in the first place. cool.gif
Music keeps me going.

Just looking for more input from other JTR speaker owners. I just wanted to know if anyone is using an amp for their JTR set ups. I am thinking of adding an amp, but I want to pick the right one. I currently have a denon 4520. I thought about the XPA-3, but will I see or hear much from it. The Crown XLS2000 is another.

Thanks

I have a parasound a52, which I really like.
I use three XLS 1500 crown amps for my T12lp's up front (LCR ) 1550 watts rms x3 at 4 ohms. And lexicon amps 512, for my surrounds, t8lp's , bridged 400 watts rms x4. I am pleased in both cases with the results. The crowns sound just as good as the lexicon (Bryston made amps).

Sounds good. I plan on putting on a good movie when the wife gets home. I ran one seating position on the XT32, I don't have time to tune tonight, I hate running Audy. Plus the house is a little noisy right now with the puppies playing. Was kind of funny, I was using a Mordaunt Short Carnival 5 for my center while I was waiting for the 228. When I put it on it went from +5 to -5 , A little difference eh?

Looking forward to my new Triax. I wanted the S2's, but considering the trade in, I had no choice but to jump on it. I am sure Jeff will build something in the next year or two and I will fall in love. Right now I am working on an amp, then I am moving on to new side and rear speakers. Single 8's are my front runner.

I am using two Crown XLS 1500s to drive my Quintuple LCR (with one channel unused). The setup sounds great. I also thought of getting three Crowns initially but it's not needed because with halfway gain I can hit reference and still have 10+ db headroom.

With the Quintuples, mains and center along with Triple 8's for surrounds is Integra DHC80.3 & Onkyo 9-channel amp PA-MC5500. In the past used the Sunfire Grand cinema's (2 of them), Outlaw M2200 monos, and Crown XLS 1000's. Like the Integra DHC80.3 & Onkyo 9-channel amp PA-MC5500 combo the best. Love those Quintuples for range and clarity with just 300 wpc.

bsoko2, this is interesting for me because I run a sunfire tga 4700, it runs really cold which is great but when 25 ft back in two channel I can drive it to what I am perceiving as distortion. Just seems like the levels get to a point where the amp loses control a little. Not totally sure its the amp though because my prepro (UMC-1) also acts funny and sometimes will drastically change the input level when switching modes like PLXII to stereo or vice versa, so I just don't trust it completely and wonder what effect it could have on clipping signal from the getgo.

What did you like about the PA-MC550 over the sunfire or crowns? Did you try the Intrgra pre pro with those other amps to know the amp was the only variable changing?

Liked the SQ of the PA-MC550 with the Integra DHC 80.3 over the Sunfire and Crowns. This is not for music but strictly movies as that is what my room is setup for.

That's interesting and was not my experience with Sunfire amps (I now have W4S). This weekends Kansas GTG amp challenge might shed a little light on this issue.

same here with the sunfire. I am running the 7401 right now, and my ears give out WAY before the amp does. Oh, and my ears give out around +10dB, haha.

I was talking with Carp about this through the week and I am waiting to hear the results before I buy an amp.

I certainly haven't identified the root cause and for all I know it is some other part of the signal chain. It does seem to be the case more on music (including CD's) but blu rays do seem to go louder and cleaner so I am not trying to throw the Sunfire under the bus because the fact is I don't know the reasons. As I change out components I'm sure Ill figure it out. First on the hit list is the UMC-1, course I have been saying that for over a year now and I just keep buying speakers instead!!
