I'll have three extra speakers once the Noesis' arrive and I need to figure out the best way to use them in my room. It seems heights or wides is the new standard over rear speakers, but I've heard neither.
I think I'll stick one speaker in the rear "6.1" position and then settle on heights or wides for the other two. I highly doubt that I'm going to get away with putting two wide speakers on the floor in my room(due to room and wife constraints), so it'll likely be heights.

i actually tried wides back then, Q8 LCR and T8 wides, it seemed to work well, but it was very had to position, as the suggested setup isn't easy to accomplish!!
I eventually tried heights with some cheap tannoy v8's, it is very noticeable especially with movies like black hawk down. Heights are much more easy to implement, pretty much anyone can do heights, but wides needs a really wide room.
I ran all sorts of rear speakers, and never noticed timbre match issues, i ran my tannoy v8 heights with many different mains, and i don't think anyone in my household can tell there is any timbre issues when watching movies, it'll be a different story if you played audio in all channels out or something.
Even though these tannoys work so well, especially at $125 a piece shipped, i am definitely getting myself 6 more jtr speakers for surround and heights, most likely next year when the bank account has some money i can use.
