Studiotek 130 + Wrinkles

I have a 10 year old Stewart Studiotek 130 which has developed wrinkles in the last couple of weeks. It's a tension mount screen, so I'm baffled as to how the wrinkles are there. Is it just the age of the screen, or can heat and humidity cause this? Up until this year, the screen was always in the basement were it's considerably cooler. My upstairs is around 78 degrees (no AC), and humidity is about 40%. I'm in northern Canada and it's normally quite cool and dry here. All of the snaps are in place, and I can't pull the screen any tighter. Any ideas?

Here's are some pictures. The wrinkle at the bottom of the screen extends out about 10 inches.

Yikes, that's a bummer! It appears that the change in climate may indeed have affected the screen tension. How long ago did you move the screen upstairs? Is it possible that there may have been some inadvertent pressure against the middle of the screen during the move? Another thing you may want to consider is to perhaps run a dehumidifier in the room to see if that helps. Have you called the manufacturer? They might have some suggestions, too.

I read in another thread that carefully heating the screen with a hairdryer for a couple of seconds makes it shrink and removes wrinkles. You might want to make a search.

First off, has anything changed? Such as changing the downword stop position? Secondly, have you tried tightening the tension screws on the batten bar? They may have just loosened over time.

Thanks for the reply. Batten bar? Is this the frame? I'm not sure what you mean by "downward stop position". I did remove the frame from the wall mounts, but the wrinkles are still there. The only thing that has changed is I moved the screen from the basement to the upstairs about 8 months ago. The screen has been fine up until maybe 2 weeks ago. The wrinkles have been getting worse ever since. I'll try running a humidifier and see what happens. I'll fire off an email to Stewart and see if the hair dryer thing will work.

My apologies....I read your post wrong (when you said tensioned I thought you meant tab tensioned electric).

I'm afraid the fabric may have stretch. Now, which model frame is it? One thing to check is that the Deluxe frame has adjustable snaps (though not 100% sure on that from 10 years ago). Might be worth looking at.

This is why you simply cannon beat an actual wall for use as a screen. Not that all screens are bad, but with a wall you have so many options and it never wrinkles..

unless you have your speakers behind the wall... i generally prefer my movies with sound.

An AT wall...now that would be a good trick.

You should give stewart a call with the serial number. Depending on the frame style, you may be able to even out the tension among the snaps/grommets.

That's what I said!
