Windows 7 7600.16385 built in decoder seems to work well for HA on high bitrate mkv - Page 3

Let me check that with RTM x64...
I am able to see MPCVideoDec filter within Win7DSFilterTweaker, and make it the default VC-1 decoder...

But ive registered my MPC filters with regsvr32.exe (in system32 folder).

edit: iwas having issues as such until i restarted my system.hmm.
sometimes you can get away with not re-booting after registering/unregistering filters or changing merit, in fact maybe most times... BUT, there are times when a re-boot is required, so it's prudent to do it all the time...

Win7 RTM, 32bit

Having trouble registering the Gabest Splitter, following your directions, I get stuck when running the bat file:
"The module MpegSplitter.ax failed to load. ... The specified module could not be found". Running it as administrator.

I have the bat file located at the same location as the MpegSplitter.ax file. These are the filters i downloaded: http://www.xvidvideo.ru/component/op...072/Itemid,11/

any idea?

You may need to disable "User Account Control" temporarily depending on the directory where you placed the file.

i had the same issue,

regsvr32.exe was returning a module error, so i tried the .bat file within same folder of the ax files...It seemed to work but, i could not get MPCvideodec to show up within the filtermanager (W7filtertweaker).

I restarted the PC, and low n behold regsvr32.exe was working as it always used to.I registered the ax's and all is working now...

very strange but it's workin..weird

I am running 64bit (not 32bit) and I noticed in the Win7DSFilterTweaker thread that it does not support any VC-1 filters under 64bit. I assume this is the reason? (edit: Maybe the MVCVideoDec supported under the 64bit section will indeed do VC-1, if this is the case why isnt MVC showing up as an option for me when I use the tweaker? Is this because of the note where you sad the CLSID might be different for 64bit?)

My issue for trying all of this is that I ripped all of my BR's to m2ts files to maintain PS3 compatibility. I converted all of the audio to AC3 (to avoid the DTS-HD issues with m2ts in WMP), however all of my VC-1 encodes play audio but no video. The AVC encodes all work great.

I can only assume this is due to the VC-1 playback inside m2ts files issue. So Ive got 3 choices it seems....

1. Change to 32bit Vista
2. Wait for the filter tweaker to support a 64bit VC-1 filter
3. Reconvert everything over to another format like MKV and lose PS3 compatibility.

Does this sound right?

P.S. GraphStudio does not work for me. On both my 32 and 64 bit Win7 installs it tells me that it cant open my m2ts files when I try to drag them to it.

I'm running Win 7 RC 64 bit and Win7DSFilterTweaker for Windows 7 works well for me. Seen the screen capture for 64-bit filter selection. There's a section for the 32-bit filter playback chain, and one for 64-bit.

tsanga

i just use MS video decoder and ffdshow audio, but this is for ATSC/QAM viewing.

i imagine if your talking CableCard DRM, then im not to sure. probably nothing as of now.
Ah, got it. The key is you're still using MS video decoder for video. I think media center has some DRM handling inside of live TV, even for ATSC/QAM (which is what I was referring to). That's why it writes recordings as .dvr-ms or .wtv files and not just mpeg-ts.

Use the command here to register http://msmvps.com/blogs/chrisl/articles/12013.aspx

Also you need to open terminal as administrator.

Type cmd in the run/search box but don't hit enter. Hit ctrl, shift and enter together. This opens it as admin.

I put MPCVideoDec. ax on my C:\\ drive. So the command you type to register it is:
regsvr32.exe "C:\\MPCVideoDec.ax

You will get a confirmation box telling you it succeeded. If you do not it didn't work.

forget the mpeg splitter. If you need a splitter just download and install haali and be done with it. Just double click and done. Also, you won't see a splitter in the directshow filter tweaker.

MPCVideoDec.ax set to default for avc/h.264 and vc-1
ac3filter
haali

This will play any mkv with HA too.

I also install madflac for any mkv's I create using lossless flac.

Source/splitter filter

You can't use the famous Haali Media Splitter because it can't recognize Dolby TrueHD audio tracks. Instead use MPC - MPEG Source (Gabest) (MpegSplitter.ax). Download it here (standalone filters, x86 or x64). Place it in a folder (say C:\\Users\\\\AppData\\Roaming\\MPC Filters) and register it. For example, copy and paste the following command to notepad, save it as "install.bat" in the same folder and double click it.

Forget truehd. Unless you have an asus hdav card you can't bitstream it. Any player will down rez it too so it's kind of pointless to keep the truehd file on your rips.

If you are talking about your own rips you rip the truehd or dts-hd to lossless flac. You will get 100% of the audio, not down rezed. It's the only way without a hdav card.

If you are talking about movies you might download online(not that I support such a thing) I have yet to see a single one with lossless flac or truehd.

Yes i do my own rips, not using mkv (well just started) and I do rip to flac when using mkv, most of my movies are ripped to folder structure movie only + hd audio track if available which resulted in a single m2ts file anyway in the stream folder (in process to convert them to mkv+flac)

Using X-Meridian analog 5.1 to receiver

Can something like this be done to play HD DVD .evo files through Media Center?

only thing with Haali (installer) it does not handle TrueHD/DTSMA (actually using the core DD DTS) on SPDIF.

i do have VC++ 2005 x86 & x64 installed. prolly nothing to do with it, wont hurt.
thats the only thing ive done different during the begining of the test. (for other apps ).

True. But why would you want to send those audio formats over spdif? spdif is limited to 5.1 and it's compressed. Might as well just use DTS and Dolby Digital in that case.

thats all ive got, 1500kb DTS & 640kb DD for me is great for now!...
I plan to eventually upgrade my HK amp when vid cards start bitstreaming.

not going to mess with my HDDVD backups any more than i need to.

For those having problems getting MPC to show up in the filter tweaker after following renethx's directions, its probably because you also need to register MPCVideoDec.ax (just copy the .bat file in his instructions and modify it to say MPCVideoDec.ax instead of MpegSplitter.ax).

That was my issue. A nub issue for sure, but one Ive just seen repeated in the replies today.

Now on to my issues.

1. Ive selected the MPCVideoDec.ax as my VC-1 filter however my VC-1 encoded files still only play audio and do not play video (when using WMP). I know the encodes are correct because if I play them using VLC or Media Player Classic they play fine.

2. I still cant drag my .m2ts files into GraphStudio so that I can check the filter and splitter. I assume there must be more to using GraphStudio other than just downloading it, running it and dragging the .m2ts file into it. Maybe I need to register/add something first?

Which leads me to believe (without GraphStudio testing) that the issue is that WMP is still not using the MPCVideoDec filter when trying to play VC-1 files. It is set correctly according to the filter tweaker so either the registry settings in renethx's walk through do not work with 64bit or something else needs to change.

Im going to try Haali's splitter tonight to see if that works so that I can at least eliminate the splitter from the equation.

Cool, thanks. I'm off to tweak my system.

Your screen shot is hiding the mpeg2 decoder. Did you leave the default MS decoder for mpeg2?

Also, does the MPC decoder provide FF and RW control? The built-in MS VC1/AVC decoder doesn't do that very well.

Lastly, Reclock only kicks in if the 32-bit decoders are invoked, correct?

A wrong advice. If you forget the MPEG Splitter, you will never be able to play a M2TS file with a Dolby TrueHD audio track. Haali Media Splitter is incapable of handling Dolby TrueHD.

A completely wrong statement. ffdshow Audio Decoder decodes Dolby TrueHD without downsampling.

MPC - MPEG Source (Gabest) + ffdshow Audio Decoder -> full quality playback of Dolby TrueHD.

Using M2TS to archive BD movies is a good idea or not is another subject, of course.

Another good MPEG-2 Decoder is CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (MS and this one [and ArcSoft from TMT2] are the only MPEG-2 decoders that support DXVA).

MPC Video Decoder is much better in FF/RW.

ReClock is 32-bit only.

Did you disable Media Foundation? Otherwise WMP uses MF and it's simply incapable of VC-1. Another note is that MPC Video Decoder does not support interlaced VC-1 (there are a bunch of music concert BD with 1080i59.94 VC-1).

Yup, I haven't tested my guide with x64. I will update it soon. GraphStudio has two different versions: GraphStudio.exe and GraphStudio64.exe. MPC Video Decoder and WMP too. You have to be very careful about x86 vs. x64. (So unless you have good reasons to go for x64, you'd better stay with x86.)
Media Foundation is definitely disabled (the file was renamed).

The issue with GraphStudio was indeed that I needed GraphStudio64.exe (thanks!) but in order to keep your guide complete, there is no link to the 64bit version on the link that you posted, if you replace it with http://blog.monogram.sk/janos/downlo...phstudio64.php it shows both the 32 and 64bit versions.

Once I grabbed the 64bit version I was able to drop the m2ts file in and see the graph. VC-1 is indeed using the MPC filter and it plays just fine inside GraphStudio, however it does not play in WMP. It also plays just fine in other players as I mentioned. Its 1080p, so its not an interlace issue.

Im wondering if MS disabled the ability to use directx for m2ts files in 64bit? I thought I read something about this maybe.

Anyway here is a screen shot from a VC-1 graph:
