Best sub (Seaton, SVS, AV123) with Yamaha YSP-4000 soundbar

Any of those subs are far too good to pair up with a soundbar. That isn't to say it can't be done. It's just that any of those subs will have far greater dynamic capability than any soundbar. When calibrated properly with the soundbar, you would never get close to experiencing the dynamics that those subs are capable of. I wouldn't suggest spending any more than about $250 on a sub unless you are planning to step up to real speakers in the future.

Go out and buy the cheapest sub possible.

I will have to go against the normal train of thought here, and say get a good sub. While I agree, that you should fight for real speakers for your setup...they will greatly outperform any soundbar...if you absolutely must get the soundbar, because of WAF or some other reason, get the best sub you can afford, and cross the soundbar to the sub as high as sound good, and enjoy outstanding bass. Although, if you are really considering getting the Ultra cylinder, how much does WAF really come into play. Heck, I am sure once you get the sub, and listen for a while, you will probably want to upgrade your speakers anyway, and at least you will be in a position where you already have a good sub.

Is there really a thing as a "Flagship" soundbar....seems like an oxymoron to me.

You are wasting your money on another sound bar....I understand the WAF concerns and I have had soundbars in my bedroom for this reason but if you have approval for a BIG subwoofer why not get approval for proper speakers?

There are some decent compact speakers which will handily sound better tna any soyndbar. Also there are some pretty good in-wall speakers from what I've read.

Buy the $600 sub and go get orbs or some bookshelf speakers that the wife will approve of. a Seaton Submersive + soundbar = ghetto

With your budget you don't have to settle for a cylinder sub, unless you really like the looks of the cylinders more than the boxes.

The SVS PB-10 NSD would be enough for your room and the soundbar.

If you want to up the ante I would go with the SVS PB-12 NSD. You have so many other things to upgrade, why put so much into your subwoofer? One of these days you should be able to get some proper speakers. Then you can sit back and see what great new subs are on the market.

Go ahead Pen... fubar up a few sentences and I will fix them up for you. BTW: the above was not messed up enough to correct, though you did leave out a few comma's here and there; a little slang, just not enough to correct.

Two approaches you can take here:

1) Get what you want and ask for forgiveness later
2) Whine about it for 6+ months til your wife finally lets out the "just get what you want, I am sick of your whining already!"

Both have been tried and worked with flying colors (though you do have to space them out a year or two)

If the wife will let you get a Submersive...get a Submersive. Heck, I don't care if you have $10 computer speakers, you can always whine, beg and upgrade later.

If she lets him spend $2200 on a Submersive she'd better let him get some real speakers.

If you must go with in-walls, check out Triad. But try to talk her into bookshelf style speakers at least. If successful, go with the PB13 Ultra box or Seaton Submersive. They are incredible subwoofers IMO. But don't bother if you can't upgrade from the soundbar.
