overwhelmed! <$400 hdmi receiver?

Best Buy has the Denon AVR-590 for $349, and you could most likely do better than that. It has 4 hdmi, but is only 5.1 ch, but if you are ok with that then I say that one.

The HK 254 has 3 inputs as well and can be had for under $250 from Harman Audio on ebay - its a refurbished unit.

The Onkyo 606 is still available refurbished and has 4 HDMI inputs. Take a look at a few of the Marantz while you are on Accessories4Less. The refurbished SR6001 for that price is killer!

Just wondering, what did the HT-RC160 replace? Or is it a completely new model? I know Onkyo did some rebadging....and possibly more rebadging to come with the 87X and the 90X series...

A competitive problem with the Onkyo RC160 and the 607 is that they both use Audyssey 2EQ, a minimal version of Audyssey that does not EQ the sub channel at all -- that's the most important channel to EQ in most rooms.
All of Denon's '09 lineup including the AVR-590 use Audyssey MultEQ at a minimum. The bottom line is that unless you are installing the receiver in a very well bass treated room (unlikely in this price class) or are not using a sub at all, the Denon's are going to sound better.

Ditto! In fact, I own one and am very happy with it. So far it is pushing HDMI 1080P 24hz thru 26 ft to my Epson 1080UB just fine. I have a 45 ft cable coming this week (since the 26 footer is too short), and hopefully it will pass 1080P 24 hz and 60hz thru that as well. I'll report back in the "official" thread.
