If you have BD Live enabled, try turning it off. If that doesn't work try adding a memory card to it's SD Card Slot.

I'm very pleased with the video presentation. The colors and levels look natural, grain looks intact, and there is no edge enhancement. The audio sounds like it is mixed a bit hot, but the film has never sounded better in the home. This was well worth my purchase and will be viewed many times.

Looks decent.

It looks better than decent. It looks great for a catalog title. Everything looks natural and the grain is minimal at best. Totally smooth (and I don't mean DNR) presentation.

Thumbs up!

The only issue I had was that there is about a minute black screen before the main menu comes up whether from startup or anytime I hit the main menu button during movie playback.

The caps looks less contrasty and dark. Maybe it was toned down a bit too much.

Maybe but I have ordered it nonetheless as the reviews all seem very good over the last version. My copy is shipping its way over to me so I soon will be able to tell for myself

This transfer is very nearly perfect. Considering this is a 15 year old catalog title, even more so. This movie has never looked this good.

This is what's happening the player plays the trailers but when it gets to the main menu it just stops and all I see is a blank screen, I have returned this title 3 times and the result is the same.

Did you try this?

Also update the player's firmware... Then come back after you try all 3 things.

Panasonic players suck. I had one, so I know.

You're kidding....right?
Panasonics have traditionally been the least fussy of ALL players.

I have the first 3 generations of Panny players and use them all the time.
They don't freeze, skip, or not read a disk.
They just work.

Sure, I do have to update the FW occasionally, but so does everyone else.

In fact, I may add a 4th gen (BD60) for the exercise room.
$140 at Amazon.
Which reminds me of another important fact: the Panasonics have always been very well priced compared to the competition.

I agree. Lionsgate did right this time around. As far as technical issues, it just took awhile to load on my Oppo but was smooth sailing after that with no issues or hiccups.

Pats,
I have an SD card installed, firmware is the latest version and I tried turning off BD-Live and nothing seems to help.

Ok, I found the problem you have to remove the SD card to make it work properly.

Walmart.com has it for $19.86 right now (.13 cents cheaper tham Amazon). Best Buy has it for $24.99 so I will be price-matching @ Best Buy tomorrow with a printout from Walmart.com

I just hope the subtitle problem was fixed...

If by "fixed" you mean do they come on, the answer is yes. Unfortunately, Lionsgate chose a large yellow font that I think looks like ass. For low res DVD, I understand using a font like this, but Blu-ray does not need it.

My Best Buy had is priced at $24.99 also, but at checkout it scanned at $17.49.

Thanks for the confirmation.

I wrote Panasonic about the problem I was having and their response was:

When playing the movie insert a 1GB SD card in the unit and it should
allow the movie to play. Make sure that the card is no less than 1GB.

Oh, of course, how obvious! To play a movie, you need an SD card of 1Gb inserted in your player. I'll tell my grandmother in case she decides to watch it. Jeez, these Blu-ray requirements are getting ridiculous. What's next -- you need to type in a Java class definition through a connected keyboard before a movie plays?

Hmmm....I DO have a 1GB card in the SD slot, and I am having the same problems that others have described.

FWIW, my Panny 35 has been great. This new Stargate is the first BD I've had any trouble with.

Edit: OK, I have tried the various suggestions above. The only thing that works is removing the SD card during playback. BD Live on/off has no effect. Having the SD card "in" causes the playback to stop after the trailers. I suspect it has something to do with the BonusView authoring on the disc not playing nice with the Panny's f/w.

I confirmed this after reinserting the SD card once playback had successfully begun, and attempting to activate the pop-up menu which utilizes PiP (BonusView), and experiencing player freeze up.

Wow, this one rivals Braveheart as the best catalog release on the format to date based on A/V quality. The sound mix is great. Very enveloping. PQ is outstanding. Colors are now spot on and so much detail. Great job Lionsgate!
