That said, I don't have a 120" screen, so I'll let the Xylon's of the world add their own two cents.

Thanx for that.
I am still hoping for a coupon or rebate or something for those of us that bought the first release.

^^
Same here. We can hope

I'd like for this to become available on Netflix so I can rent it first.

Aw crap! Just a few days after I go and buy the old version. Serves me right for not doing my homework.

Watch your audio levels!!!!

The DTS intro is hazardous to your speakers, particularly the subwoofers.

And the entire track's level is way way hot!

Oh yeah, great transfer!!

5.1 lossless pcm on european revised edition was brilliant too.

With this new version of STARGATE i'm more optimistic that when TOTAL RECALL is redone it will have the same leap in quality.

I got a Busted Buy gift certificate for my annual celebration of aging. I'm tempted to expend some of it on this 'un....I don't know why... Maybe I can crack my drywall with it?

I'm wondering if the added footage of the Director's cut can possibly look as good as the Theatrical version's? It's always looked darker and grainier. I've seen this film on, oh (!), so many formats.

very nice picture, better then first US release, super sound and its region free.
my denon 3800bd needs ~40 sec from previews to first menu.

The new transfer is much more natural. The overblown contrasty look has been dialed down a great deal. Screenshots taken from Rik1138 at the blu-ray.com forums.

Hrmmm this is looking good.

I gonna check and compare with my Universal/Studio Canal BD and see what master they used.
That last comparison picture looks interesting. The sky is actually blue with the new release....quite promising.

By the caps, EE seems to be terrible on the last shot and it looks much more filtered. Not good at all IMO.

Lionsgate simply cannot do catalog right, period.

Are you referring to those downsized, downrezzed compressed JPEGs here???

+++++

Sorry, AlexBC, but you are grasping at straws.

At least wait for full frame lossless grabs.

New ones looks too dark for my taste. Looks like the contrast and colors have been toned down too much but let me wait for full rez caps before jumping to conclusion.

guys you have to see this new transfer to see improvements. Only audio it self is worth the upgrade imho.

So...there still is some EE?

I would also have to agree (judging by the caps) that it seems not as bright as I would prefer.

Ordered it yesterday, will find out soon enough.
There was a quote I read on some forum, where the Director stated that all previous transfers starting with the Laser disk were way too bright.

Actually, it looks like the darker version is the correct version, per the director's wishes. Per emgesp's post, here's the review (apologies if AVS and HTF still have their exasperating mutual link-bans in place) that mentions it, presumably in the commentary:

The tones of this transfer are pitched more toward the darker and richer end of the spectrum. The desert scenes have a more golden tinge, and the overall pallette is warmer with a dialed-down white level.

Old transfer definitely has a bad case of Ghostbusters. Not surprising the director considered it too bright.
I just grabbed it, going to watch it tonight and post my impressions.

Anyone having any issues with this title?

Seeing as Reitman wanted a brighter transfer it's not an apt comparison.

I'd say Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Now that's a transfer with too much gamma (the scene between Spock and Valeris in his cabin is supposed to be lit by candlelight, not on video it isn't!).

I am having problems with this title. I have a Panasonic BDP-35K and have the latest version firmware 2.0 it plays the trailers but it stops just before the main menu screen for Stargate, I checked the disc and its a VC-1 if that means anything. Can someone help please.
