Samsung LCD HDTV - Takes Forever to Power On

Hi

I have a two year old Samsung LCD HDTV Model # LN-T4665F that I bought from Amazon.

About a month ago, when I turn on the TV it makes it's usual little 'click' followed by a chime indicating that it's turning on...however, it repeats this process for anywhere between 30 seconds and 3 minutes until the picture actually comes on.

Sometimes, when it finally does turn on there are purple gridmarks (up and down, side to side) on the picture which only go away after powering off and then on again. At which point I have to wait for the picture to appear (again!).

Any thoughts on what I can do to fix it? Who would even repair something like this? I went on Samsung's website and they said the closest repair shop was in Rhode Island...I live in Connecticut which seems like a long ways to drive with a TV in my car.

Help! Thanks a lot.

Need to check power supply capacitors for bulging tops. Very cheap fix if you know how to solder.

Thanks for the reply...are there any resources available to figure out how to do this?

Hammerdwn - I googled your response and am definitely not going to be able to do this myself.

Any ideas on how much something like this will cost to fix and who can actually fix it? I live in CT.

Labor is $250-$300 + $10 for caps.

It's actually incredibly easy to remove the back of this TV and take a look at the circuitry for issues. Just take the TV off the stand (4 screws marked "S" at the back). Then lay the TV down on a sheet/blanket - face down. Remove all the screws around the edge and a couple in the middle - basically every screw you see. The back then just pops off. You can have the TV open in under 5 minutes. VERY easy stuff. Then you can see if the capacitors are causing issues.

WilliamG - I'm willing to give it a shot...but what exactly would I be looking for after I open it up? Thanks.

Type in "bulging capacitor" on google images and you get lots of good examples like-

The tops should be flat and clean.
