Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-P50S1 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

Just got my first hdtv from amazon. the Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-P50S1 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV. but could use some help.I am dissapointed by the quality of tv and hdtv as well as watching regular dvds. Is it because it is a 1080 dp? Would I be happier if i had the 720dp? I will give it more time but I dont understand why regular dvds dont look as good as when watching on a regular 32 inch tv set with component cables.Am I missing something.Havent tried blu ray yet but still figured regular dvds would look better with a 50 inch plasma. Any help would be appreciated.

Standard Definition in general isn't really going to look on an HDTV. SD will always look better on a CRT-Tube. HD is where its at on an HDTV. Is your DVD an upconvert DVD player or just a standard DVD player?

What HD sources are you throwing at it and how are they connected?

no hd sources yet except comcast cable stations.Will an upconvert really help? is it worth to just get a good blu-ray that upscales good or are there some really good upconvert dvd players you couls recommend?
just using component cables since dvd is not upconvert one.

just wondering if I get my SD source from PVR through HDMI output to Denon receiver with Denon's AT2010 chip will Denon upconvert the SD signal?

An up-converting disc player will definitely make a difference. YMMV depending on the up-converting chip used, I have excellent results on this TV with my OPPO DV-981HD (it upconverts to 1080p HDMI with DCDi by Faroudja). Current Blu-Ray players do a decent job. I have good HD results from off air channels also (PBS, local news channels, etc.).
