Oh, and great job on that practice chair!
The manual mechanism was $50 and the power mechanism was $160. I bought the foam and stretch strapping from diyupholsterysupply.com They will custom cut the foam to your specs and they carry two different densities and four different firmnesses.

Just sometimes?!

I sprained my brain just trying to wrap it around the idea of making my own chairs!

You. Da. Man.

Crazy man, but still da man!

You are insane man. I'm sure it will come out great. Any estimation for the time involved?

I hope to have the shape of the back worked out in the next few days. From there I will have to make the frames for the back and cut the pieces for the seat bottom and the foot rests. I'm hoping that I can have all the wood parts finished this weekend. From there I will have to order the foam, stretch strapping and the fabric/leather. I have swatch cards on the way for the upholstery so it will just be a matter of picking out what I want. If I don't run into any snags I don't see why I can't have them wrapped up in a month.

Is the mechanism from Leggett & Platt ("Supercliner") or via Omega Motion?

Supercliner with a triple ottoman. The Omega motion ones have an Iphone app that will let you control the chairs.

So is there any chance you might start a seating company? I mean Sandman has the screens covered and that undertaking was my first "Wow" on this forum, but you're taking it to another level.

I can see you're slogan now "You too can sit in Jello"

He could earn minimum wage at that, I'm sure. Lots of work, there.

I'd be down with a jello (or gel even) theater chair. Forget foam!

I can easily see why Fortress charges as much as they do. I'm sure that I could manage to sell them for less than they do but I could quickly see this fun hobby becoming a chore if I had 30 seats to make on a deadline. I don't see why I could not make a set or two in the future for someone else though.

Just when you get fully recovered from your NY hangover - and you think the bar couldn't possibly be raised any higher....

Then one opens this thread and BAM > Jello has taken the bar to the stratosphere with DIY powered recliners !!!

Yea, WOW, didn't even see that coming ! I never really thought about it. I guess if you have the Time, Skill, Tools and design aspects you can make your own custom chair for your theater.

Something that might cross my mind because now I know it can be done.....

WOW, just WOW...

I'd be careful with that...already heard that Roman found out about this. He and a couple of his buddies are planning a little road trip down from Jersey to "pay you a visit"

I suppose the next thing you are going to do is write your own app to control these chairs... Simply amazing that you tackled this project. Well done.

Do we really need applications to open our recliners for us? I'm getting a picture, and it looks very much like those fat people from "Wall E". Just sayin'

You never know when you will need to recline all your chairs when you are at work.

I actually have plans for a DIY projector but it's huge and would not fit anywhere.
