Got 1.5 Mbps DSL, Want Netflix streaming, Will it work?

What kind of picture quality can I expect streaming to a 50" plasma with a 1.5 Mbps DSL connection to Netflix?

I could upgrade my DSL connection to 3.0 Mbps? Will that double the picture quality?

I don't want to watch youtube quality or hulu quality. I want to watch DVD quality or better.

Does anyone have a screencapture of what the picture quality is like based on DSL speeds (1.5, 3.0, 6.0)?

Is there any way to buffer the streaming to improve picture quality and playback?

1.5 would give you about 2 bars of quality (IE not good)
3.0 would give you max quality but only SD content
6.0 would give you HD quality (for those movies/tv shows that are hd). Netflix's HD feeds are 5.0 mbit.

Above is true. I had 1 to 1.5 mbps DSL when PlayOn started streaming Netflix to the PS3, and it was very choppy. Called my phone company who claimed they had no faster speeds, but with some threats to switch over to cable, they suddenly realized that they could give me 3 mbps speeds. No problems with SD streaming now, which is pretty much all I intended to watch via stream anyway (TV on DVD and such).

I have a 1.5 mbps DSL and Netflix streaming does work. On my 53" CRT RPTV the picture quality using a Roku box is anywhere from VHS to DVD depending on the encoding of the source material. There is some jerkiness occaisionally. Using the Roku gives the best picture. Using a laptop I sometimes get macro blocking which is distracting.

If you upgrade your internet service it will not double the picture quality though you should be able to view HDTV material with a ROKU box or a Netflix compatable DVD player. You can't get HDTV quality with a computer at this time.

If you want DVD quality or better you should look at a different option like Vudu. For me the quality of Netflix streaming is acceptable and adds a fun factor to my viewing options. Having access to old movies like Vanishing Point or THX1138 is neat.

Keep in mind the sound from Netflix streaming is stereo not 5.1. Also, while streaming a movie web surfing slows down considerably.

I have 1.5 Mbps DSL via verizon. I never experienced jerkiness in the video. Rebuffering is rare, and usually only happens if I'm downloading a file from a computer and hogging the connection. Picture quality is either VHS quality or near DVD quality.
