Getting lost with fast fwd

My recorder is an LG DR198H and I also have a JVC XV-212S player.

My problem with both machines is that that they lose their place on the disc if I hit the wrong key during playback.
For instance, hit fast fwd once too often and go from 5-speed to zillion-speed - completely lost!
It's not just fast-fwd that can get you lost - my LG allows me to return to the TOP MENU during playback and forgets where I was.
In both cases playback resumes from the start of the title.

Does anyone know of a machine that helps avoid this?

It sounds like you use +RW (or maybe +R discs)?
I have the same problem with +RW or unfinalized +R recorded discs. Use - format discs for more consistent search speeds.
AFA losing your place on the discs, I don't know of any players that allow you to return to a previous place if you inadvertently push the wrong key with maybe the exception of the menu key. Generally if you push the menu key and it takes you to the top menu, pushing it again takes you back to where your were, if you were to push the play key it might start your title over again.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I do use +RW (as well as -R).
I hadn't thought to check the fast fwd speeds for different format discs - I'll do some testing.
