You still need to put the order through their site? WOW, that sounds like they need to rethink their processes. What if someone doesn't feel comfortable putting CC information or personal information over the internet? I can't imagine any internet based marketer NOT taking sales over the phone, that process should be expanded to phone sales too.

Erik, why is it necessary to place the order through the site even after placing a phone order?

I just tried to pull up the SVS web site (6:21PM PDT). They are still down. The error message that I got was the same as FoxyMulder got (post #18). According to my Firefox error message (on my Linux laptop), the link was stopped at IP = 75.18.163.118 (an AT&T server):

The address I used is www.svsubwoofers.com (the latest address that I have for them).

NOTE: The AT&T stop might be due to the fact that I'm using AT&T for my ISP, and that was as close as the AT&T service could get to the SVS server.

Their current site is www.svsound.com, but it is still down. They need to bring in an expert as this shouldn't be down this long. Or they need to fire the expert they have as they just aren't making progress. This could also be an ISP issue. I suspect they have their site hosted. If it is hosted, they need to get tough on the ISP. I know I would find this unacceptable.

You young guys do know how to use a telephone? To quote Rachel Ward from Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, "You do know how to dial, don't you? You just stick your finger in the little whole and turn round and round and round. Their subs are worth the wait. Besides, it's not like your trading in your clunker before the feds run out of our tax money (the next program is "Cash for Codgers". Yes, trade in Grandma and Grandpa, who have become overly expensive, have our government perform euthenasia, and get back $4,500. each. Combine that rebate with your cash and you have enough to buy the entire 7.1 system. What a stimulous.

Before the telephone it was writing a letter. Before that it was smoke signals. And before that it was cave drawings. Sometimes you just want to use the latest technology.

But, yes, I do remember rotary dial phones, 5 digit phone numbers, party lines, and dialing 0 to make a long distance call.

I would guess that they can take a phone order, but their inside order takers still have to enter the order through the web order process.

IMO they need to change that process and adapt to customer's needs, which may include orders completed by phone only.

Wave of the future. More and more companies are using web services for internal processes. The problem here seems to be a relationship with a less than stellar ISP or not so strong internal IT support. This kind of disruption has proven deadley to more than one company.

Our sincere apologies for the inconveniences. If you think it's frustrating, think about how we feel. We're doing all the right things - consulting with the top tech experts, moving to a new hardened server with verified clean/secure back-ups, etc. The site is now up and running again.

Ed, glad to see SVS back up and cooking. So, sorry you had to endure this kind of BS. I will NEVER understand what anyone gets from causing problems and pain for others.

LOL! Yeah, buying blind, particularly the first time, can be a bit scary. Most everyone here has bought form an internet direct company with some trepidation. However, you're dealing with an established company that manufactures well respected products.

Keep in mind that SVS has a 45 day money back guarantee, less shipping costs. If you return the sub, you can ease your pain if you consider the shipping costs as the cost of renting a sub for 45 days to be certain you are satisfied. Money well spent! I think you'll be very happy with your purchase and doubt you'll be returning anything.

ransac -- Thanks for the correct SVS link. I've changed my Bookmarks to the correct URL.

Ed Mullen -- You guys must have been really "tearing your hair out" (if you had any to start with). An attack that extends for about 10 days must have been extremely frustrating (especially for an ID company).

Thanks to you and Jack Gilvey for keeping us posted on this problem and your progress. You handling of this matter is another (positive) notch in my quest for a sub-woofer replacement for my 23 year old Velodyne ULD-15. The PC13-Ultra is at the top of my list.

twinturboaudi -- I'm sure you will enjoy your PC12+. After my first major online purchase (a front projector) in 2002, I've been purchasing online ever since. You just have to research the online site very carefully, before you commit.

The only electronics I won't buy online are flat panel TVs - too much risk for shipping damage (local stores will replace it immediately, if damaged). There are other reasons for buying at the local B&M stores, but if the product is only available online, I won't hesitate.

Get your web guys to fix all the validation errors.

http://validator.w3.org/

I know most websites run with validation errors and the browser usually is fine with all that but i always find it strange how so many top sites from all over the world fail simple validation tests. I guess the more complex websites get the harder it is to pass all the tests but it's usually very simple things which are not done that cause the error. I know my website in my signature fails the test too though so i'm one to talk although my other site passes the tests - I hate hackers and have a really good free program which sits on my server protecting me from bot attacks and xss injections and it tells me when files are altered or added and the location of the files so even though some clever person may eventually get around it i should be able to fix the issue if it happens. I will fix my validation errors though when i find time.

Glad to see your site is running again though.

I was having a discussion with someone i know over the telephone who didn't believe me when i said it required two people to lift this SVS PB-12/Plus 2 subwoofer into this room after moving house. They said they had a subwoofer and it's a little thing which sits near the tv. I replied yah trying to resist rolling my eyes and insisted it couldn't be lifted on it's own unless Arnold Schawzenneger in his prime was available and even then he would need gorilla arms. They still don't believe me when i said how heavy and big it is.

Hey CT_Wiebe: Test em, they are the best. I had a pb12 in my last TR/model home and the buyers insisted that I leave the speakers (especially the super large sub in the corner). I had potential clients coming into my model home wondering why the house was vibrating. They are worth the cash. SVS stands behind their speakers. Any problems and they take care of it. I can't wait to try their mts series 7.1 system. If you are near Pueblo, Colorado, hopefully, I wiil have their new mts 7.1 speakers in my new model home. Looking forward to the sound combined with the Denon 5308.

Ps: I hate hackers. This internet failure will make them a better company. It's a shame that our schools are producing this type of scum.
