I'm not sure what x10 stuff is, I looked it up and it just says home automation. Theres no cheap IR-543 on ebay, I tried looking.

Will this work for just turning a lamp on and off via my harmony 900? http://www.smarthome.com/56225/Sylvania-SA-500-Wireless-Indoor-Plug-In-Remote-Control-System-1-000-Watts/p.aspx

No it will not work with harmony. X10 works the same way, but if you find an IR-543 it will work with harmony. Otherwise you'll have to get an expensive lutron IR switch. Home automation = lighting control (among other things).

Good luck on Ebay, one is listed at buy now for $175, one other including a group of other X10 products bid is at $74

Man, I need to sell mine. I had no idea they had gone up that high. I bought my 543 for $20 years ago.

I figured it out. I just went with the insteon set for under $100. Kinda pricey but at least I know it's reliable. And I finally got my remote working properly after messing with the delay settings. So now I am loving my remote, can't wait till my insteon products arrive!

I replaced a dead Directv DVR with their new Genie DVR. I added the Genie to my harmony, set up the activities for it. Took a little figuring out since I first programmed my remote over a year ago.

Anyway, everything works well except volume which should be punch through controlled by my AVR.

Not only does volume not work with the Genie, it no longer works with my DVD, Dune, and Second DVR. I ran through programming activities several times and all is set on the remote for the AVR to control volume but it just doesn't work. Other functions work on the AVR work with activities like on/off and input changing. Why not volume?

Puzzled.
If you go into device mode for the AVR from some Activity, do the volume controls work? If they do not then the AVR configuration on the Harmony database may have been corrupted. You can try one of the following:

1. "Learn" the volume command from your original AVR remote, or
2. Add a new AVR, and test if the volume control work. If they do, add this device to all you Activities, removing the old AVR. When all is working, delete the old AVR.

I relearned the commands for the AVR volume and punch through volume is working.

Another thing. I have IR blasters at every unit sitting right by the IR sensors but lately the remote seems to be weaker at turning things on and often times I need to hit help.

The units are in a cabinet that has openings in the doors for ventilation so there is no reason a radio signal should have trouble. I definable need to point the remote directly at the av cabinet for it to work. It seems when I first set this remote up it would work things as long as I pushed the buttons anywhere while in the same room.

Any idea what could cause the sudden weak signal?

The 900 communicates with the base station via RF so pointing the remote at the cabinet should be pointless. You should be able to step out of the room and still control the items in the cabinet.

Double check your configuration settings to make sure that the devices in the cabinet are controlled by the base station and not by the remote itself. The only device that should be controlled via ir from the 900 is the TV.

Finally. After spending a bunch of time looking for RF/IR selections in the software setup I pulled up the online manual and discovered that I needed to set devices to RF via the remote. My new DVR was on IR because I forgot completely about needing to switch to RF on the remote. So nice to not have to point carefully at the devices inside the cabinet and hope for the best.

Everything is working great but now my AVR does not turn on or off via activities - but turns off if I go to the device on the remote. I should be able to figure out this one one, seems like same issue as when volume stop working for the AVR via the remote.

Thanks for your help smile.gif

I have just gotten a Vizio M651d-A2R and Harmony can't seem to locate it in their database. Can anyone suggest which other Vizio model I might use instead?

Thanks for your help!

So looking at finishing off my setup downstairs, with the receiver, speakers, sub, and blu ray player all sorted out, and eyeing the Harmony 900 as the weapon of choice. Really not able to get my head around Logitech, where they come up with (seemingly) an outstanding product but then replace it with something considerably inferior. I know ebay is saturated with 900s, but can anyone give me a recommendation for the best place to snag a reliable refurb/used model? (Really don't want to pay the stupid $400+ prices that Amazon is listing!)

I am watching one source (DVD) on my projector and all I want to do is change my activity to watch (Cable TV). The problem is when I switch the activity it turns off the projector. What setting do I have wrong?
My remote stopped working suddenly and now the power button flashes 3 times when I try to charge it and nothing else.
What gives?

Battery failure????

My 900 did something similar when the battery failed. Once a replacement battery was installed, along with re-installation of the firmware/software, everything was dandy. YMMV.

Just a guess but one possibility is that you have devices set to turn off when not in use and if the projector is not in your Cable TV activity set to power on then it will be switched off when you change activities.

I bought a "generic" replacement battery via Amazon.

Seems to be working fine so far but as with any sort of generic electronic item, you never know if you are getting the identical battery (just not labeled for the OEM) or a knock-off.

So is leaving the activity different from changing the activity?
Normally when I am done let's say watching the AppleTV and I hit the power button(INtention is to do a system shut down) it follows my leaving activity program which turns off the projector as expected.

How do I prevent this if I wish to change the activity instead of leaving it?

Below is the steps that take place when I select the power button to turn off everything. Is this wrong?

I updated my remote last week, and noticed there was a firmware upgrade for the blaster. My blaster is now on version 3.4. I'm not sure if it's a simple placebo, but it seems like there are less missed signals now. Has anyone else noticed this?

I thought your original issue was changing between activities? If you run through the wizard or edit an activity then there is a question about what to do with devices that are not in use?  If you have them turn off (the other option is to stay on) then I was guessing this could be the cause of your issue.  Using the power button is not an effective way to go between activities as this sends the shutdown commands to all devices in the active (on) state.  If you hit the activity button on your remote while watching AppleTV and want to instead watch a DVD or BluRay, does your projector stay on?  This should be how you switch from one activity to another (instead of using the power button).

How do you do this on the 900? On the 890 you have to connect the IR Blaster to the computer, but not on the 900 (that I'm aware of, or that I've ever had to do).

It's automagic on the 900. The remote sends the update to the blaster during the firmware update. You will see a message on the remote screen that says something like "updating blaster".

Interesting, this is the first time I've seen that, but I guess that makes sense. Was it a little more responsive? I don't know maybe, or maybe it was just the placebo effect smile.gif

I dunno. It seemed to be working great for me after the update so I'll categorically state it was clearly placebo effect here. biggrin.gif

Does anyone in here know if the 900 will work with the new logitech smart hub?
