I just unpacked my 900 today, replacing a One that will move to the bedroom. My 900 has the slow transitions, and required a new account grrr. Both issues sent me to the internet for solutions.

I'm surprised how much the sluggish transitions are bothering me lol. My One is super fast comparatively. I can scroll through pages very quickly (tap tap, tap). On the 900, it's tap...tap...tap. I'm searching for a solution.

Also, it may be just me, but the One screen actually looks better to me as well. *shrugs*

The RF is cool. I can control from most rooms in the immediate area of my gear.

I've really given the 900 a fair chance, and it's just not working out. My first one had such terrible RF behaviour that I thought perhaps it was a dud. Replaced it for this one and having the same problem. Disconnected my wireless router and cordless phones but still no go.

My equipment is in the basement directly below the floor. Reception was hit or miss, so I put the RF blaster right up in the floor joists (unfinished basement ceiling) then ran a mini-blaster down to the equipment rack. It helped a LOT, but the reception still randomly cuts out. It's really frustrating. I'm returning this next week and I ordered a new-in-box Harmony 890 from Amazon. Not as slick, but if the RF works I'll be ecstatic.

It's such a shame. The remote is so comfortable, the buttons have such nice action, the screen is great and responsive. BAH!

I was ready to buy a 900... but don't know how to deal with a problem: all the gear is in a storage room except for the TV. I had hoped to "stretch" a IR unit by splicing in 30 feet of cable so I can control the TV with the same RF receiver. Any thoughts on how to do this using the 900?
Thx

Why can't you aim the remote at the tv?

Could do.... but furniture layout creates line of sight problem; would have to stand up.

mike, unfortunately the harmony software will only let us add favorites to those activities with tv tuner-type devices included in the setup. i hope it's a feature that will be added for other media type but i'm not holding my breath.

Thanks Randy. Kind of what I thought. I could even have the tv on during Sirius, but the favorites are linked to the set top box, not the receiver..

I'm still pleased with the performance of this remote. I hardly ever have to hit the help button, unlike my old 510 IR.

Both the 900 and the 1100 use a different operating system then the other Harmony remotes

squareeyes - thanks for putting together all of the icons for he 900.

I just picked my 900 up yesterday and the site has been really useful. I tried searching for music channel icons and only found 3 or 4 under 'M'. Do you plan to create icons for ALL of the digital music channels? Just wondering - they would be great but not a necessity of course.

Thanks again for creating a great site. Now if only Logitech would let us use custom icons for activities (that's the biggest pain the butt for me).
can the icons for the One be used on the 900 if there's missing 900 icons?

i don't really even use favorites, but they're fun to show off

you can use the one icons on the 900 and vice versa. the software will stretch or squash the art as needed as they're different resolutions.
if you let me know which icons are missing from the 900 set that you'd like i'll put those in the list for the next few updates too.

To all,

Dumb question, but I plan to have a wall mount TV and a separate cabinet with all of the AV equipment in the rear. Does the remote itself output RF so I can just point it at the TV, or will I have to 'point' one of the IR emitters outside the cabinet towards the TV?

After you update your remote, and start to use it the first time, it will ask you which devices are to be controlled by the Blaster and which devices are to be controlled by IR

Rehaz,

thanks for the answer (and I made a typo in my original.. the 'RF' should have been 'IR'). So the remote itself has IR out and does not depend on the blaster for all IR?

You don't need to use the Blaster at all if all of your devices are in line-of-sight. After programming the remote, you setup the Blaster and determine which, if any, devices are to be controlled by the Blaster or Mini Blasters. The remote sends RF to the Blaster, if used, and then in turn the Blaster sends IR to the Device(s)

I'm considering this remote but have one question. I will likely have a Dish 622 receiver as part of my overall setup (I am already a Dish customer). Therefore, both the "Watch TV" and "DVR" activities are through the same device, the 622 receiver. Will I have two activities? How will this work?

You will have one activity "Watch TV" and it will use two of your devices "TV" and "DVR".(You can call them whatever you want)

So how do you access the DVR in the "Watch TV" activity? There is a distinct DVR button on the Dish remote. There is no such button on the 900....

Any button that is missing from the remote will show up as a "soft button" on the touch screen.

I'm thinking about purchasing a 900. My setup is very simple. I have a Samsung HDTV. Then inside a cabinet I have a Directv HR21 and an Xbox 360. Here is my question/problem. The input that my Xbox 360 is connected to does not show up on my list of inputs on the TV until the Xbox is powered on and the TV detects a signal on that input. So if I had a 900, when I press the Play Game activity I would need it to power up the Xbox before it tried to switch the input on the TV. Can it be programmed to do that?

Yes. You can even adjust the delay needed after powering on the Xbox.

However, you might find that the Harmony database will include a direct map command to switch to the proper input that isn't available on your factory remote.

so there will be a soft button called DVR, or something to that effect? Does it add this button automatically?

I don't think it adds it automatically, but it's easy to do

most times I've seen it called "list" in the device profile

I checked the Harmony website, and it says a ViP 622 DVR is indeed compatible with the 900 remote. But I saw a review from a customer stating the following:

"I was blown away to learn, the 900 (or any Harmony remote) will NOT send out UHF signals as used in most all the DishNetwork DVR dual tuner recievers."

I don't know what this means at all. I just want to know if the 900 will change the channels and access the built-in DVR in the Dish receiver...any comments or experience that it truly works would be great. thanks.

My mother has a ViP 622 DVR and I setup a Harmony remote for her. I can assure you that it works quite well. All of the commonly used 622 channel/numbers/guide/info/direction pad etc. buttons are automatically mapped to hardbuttons on the remote.

The UHF signal they are talking comes from the smaller remote in dual mode to control the secondary zone of the 622 from another room - it doesn't use IR as it must pass through walls. We haven't tried it, but I suspect you will not be able to use a Harmony as a replacement for the second zone remote in Dual mode.

correct on all accounts

I have been playing around with my 900 for a few days and have finally narrowed my issue down. I have a cable from Port A of the Blaster connected to the IR in on my NAD M15 processor. I have set the Blaster to control this device using only Port A. Problem is, my plasma is emitting such strong interference that even hard wired, I cannot control the processor when the TV is on. If I cover the IR receiver on the front panel of the processor, everything is fine. This processor is in the main room but I rely on being able to see the readout on the panel. I have moved it to the best possible location in the room to try and avoid the plasma interference. It doesn't have any settings to turn the panel IR receiver off.
My thought is the front panel is so busy trying to translate the plasma interference that even the hard wired input is not doing the job. Anybody ever dealt with such strong interference issues before?
never seen something that bad. obviously if you have it hard wired, just setup something to block the ir receiver on it so you won't have any issues

Hello:

Some of my channels in Windows 7 are set up as 2.1, 6.1, 8.1, 9.1, etc. and offer HD viewing. When I try to set these channels up as a "Channel Favorite" on the Harmony 900, it refuses to program and says that there is no IR command for the "."

I understand what it is telling me, but I have no clue how to work around this problem. Any solutions?

Also, how to I program the Harmony 900 so that my HTPC never powers off or goes into suspend mode when I press the power button on the remote?

Thanks!
