Official Logitech Harmony 900 thread - Page 31

You have to set up an activity with just the computer. When you select that it will shut everything else off and continue to use the button as you have set them up. Not sure about the IR.
I was reading through the thread, and was wondering if any one has connected one of emitters from the 900's blaster to a 12v IR connecting block? I was hopping to merge the 900 IR "network" with my existing distributed(Xantech) IR "network."

Update 1/27/2010: After testing with my 900, I was been able to hardwire the output of the Harmony Blaster to my 12V IR Distribution block, and it has work seamlessly. It is now integrated into my "Whole House" IR Distribution. I did use a Diode to protect the Blaster from any current returning from my IR Network.

Also, can we assume the software on this unit is as solid as the One software and not flakey like the 1000 series software?

With those two items addressed (more reliable RF and solid software), this is a no brainer for me. I'm dying to get rid of the 1000 and had been considering a 890, until now.

I have been somewhat frustrated with my Harmony 900. It has been unreliable in turning on and off all my devices (cable box, AV receiver, DVD and TVHDD) I watch a lot of television and seldom a DVD. The cable box, AV receiver, and DVD are in a closed cabinet above the TV. So you would think that the RV would be reliable. But I have to 50 percent of the time either control the remaining device still off via the DEVICE selection to get the TV off or to get the cable box off. Or of course I can control the out of sync device by going to the device and pressing the on/off button. That seems a bit too much after spending $400 plus the paying for extended 2 year warranty.
I now have now gone thru the unhappy experience of my Harmony 900 screen going pale grey and ceasing to operate anything and had to reset the devices and activities via computer and then downloaded. Now when I use the remote, the TV will not come on when I press the Watch TV on the remote, but the cable box and the AV receiver do come on.
Either I do not have the RF system defined properly or I need to use the IR signal by pointing the remote to the TV which is in view of where I sit operating the remote about 10 feet away from all devices including the TV.

sounds like you should be utilizing the help button more, though you should rarely need to use it.

did you go through the RF setup on the remote? the remote will try to communicate with each device using the blaster and ask you if it's being controlled properly.

Is there anything available (adaptor or emiter) that can control the Wii? Something similar like the Logitech Harmony Adaptor for PS3.

I just switched to the Harmony 900 mainly for the RF feature as I just bought a new TV cabinet with wooden doors. My old remote was the Harmony 620, $50 from Costco.

Everything seems to be working, but I'm disappointed that the buttons don't glow. My old Harmony had a glow button that I could press so that I can see the buttons in the dark. Used that feature a lot. I'm also missing the 4 hard Activites button at the top of my old remote (Watch DVD, Watch TV etc). I'm sure I'll get used to it, but for 6 times the cost of my old remote just to get RF... I'm feeling gipped.

Also I couldn't tell if the if the 900 supports both IR and RF2IR for the same device. For example will it attempt to send IR and RF2IR to my TV if I want it to?

thanks.

Hope I didn't mess this one being answered previously.

Your 900 will on control the TV via the remote (IR) or with the Blaster, the remote sends RF to the blaster and in turn the blaster send IR to the TV, it will not send both to the same device.

There is nothing that will control the Wii other that using the Wiimote. The Wii operates on Bluetooth and there is no remote available to that will control Bluetooth

The lettering on the buttons glow on my 900, quite brightly though as I can read the buttons in the dark. The whole button doesn't glow but you can read the white lettering very easily

Wait 'til you try to add a sequence. You may be happier (and wealthier) if you simply add a next generation RF transmitter to your 620 and return the 900 (assuming the 620 doesn't have a rechargeable battery).

My H900 lights up the button letters nicely. The whole button may not glow but i like that i will only see the letters lighting up instead of the whole button. Probably a feature to save battery life i'm assuming also.

i don't see it saving power since the lights are either on or off, but it makes usability easier. it's easier to see just the number or word lit up than the whole button.

I didn't get to go, but a friend saw the "booth". This year it was a meeting room with a sign on the door. Sad. My prognosticating was wrong, darn sad.

Did ya jiggle it?

Having a problem getting the DVD player to turn on and stay on. It seem like the remote is senting a double signal which cause the player to quickly turn on and then back off. I have try IR and then RF and still the same.
The other 890 remote I have doesn't do this. Is there a setting to adjust to correct this? TIA

Ahh ok... I didn't realized they glowed... hadn't tried it in the dark yet! LOL -- sorry blonde moment...

Hmmm... I'm tempted to try this. I've got until Jan 31 to return my Harmony 900 to Amazon.

Looks like something is wrong with Logitech's website again. I tried a quick change to my 900 this morning and the website says the remote is not plugged in to the USB port, when it is. 900's screen shows it linked to the PC and the PC recognizes the remote.

Oh, well...

I am watching TV via antenna only -- no cable or satellite. I'm wondering if anyone has good solutions to shorten the key presses for channels now. If I'm not interested in watching subchannels, can I just map the number "4" to "4-1" for the watch TV activity? Just curious what others do...thanks!

other than turning the wii on and off what would be the point? unless you've hacked your wii (sounds painful) it doesn't do anything but games

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look into it when I get a chance and give it a try.

I wonder why it doesn't it have a hard "-" button by default in order to type in a channel such as 4-1. Both of my newer HDTV's have the "-" button just to the left of the "0" button. Both my old Harmony 620 and the new Harmony 900 has a "+" button there. What is the purpose of a plus button? When I had my 620, I reprogrammed the plus button to the "-". I'll probably wind up doing that for the 900 as well.

Update: end up having the 900 learn the Power button on the orignal DVD remote.

I have a harmony 880 that I have been using for about 3 years. Some of the buttons have broken and it no longer holds a good charge. I am now looking at the 900, but have two big questions.

Two questions:
1. I have seen several comments about its poor RF capabilities. I will be in the room with all my equipment, which sits behind me to the right about 10 feet. How well does the RF work?

2. I have tweaked and configured the 880 pretty well. How easy will it be to port over all the codes from this remote to a 900.

my rf works from 20+ feet with no issues

the 900 requires a new setup/account

With my 900 I have been able to control my equipment from outside, 45' away

I just hope logitech gets their act together at some point for future product offerings
