[ATSC Channel Guide] What Are CECB Users Using to Populate Your Channel Guide?

Now that NTSC Analog is gone, selecting 'Antenna (OTA)' on your ReplayTV only brings up a miniscule list of (local, low power) NTSC Analog transmitters.

In addition, you need to use a channel guide feeder which provides subchannel lineups, such as SchedulesDirect or a scraper. The ReplayTV lineup does not provide subchannel lineup information.

So, for example, if you wanted to use an OTA lineup with subchannels, you could subscriber to SchedulesDirect and then choose the Antennae lineup that you wanted and select the channels that you can receive within the SchedlesDirect web interface. You would tell WiRNS to use that SchedulesDirect lineup for your RTV and you would edit the remap file so as to renumber the channels to be the channel number times ten plus the subchannel number.
For example, remap channel 7.2 to channel 72. Then select that "WiRNS:" lineup on your RTV, where you will see that channel as 72 and if you fine tune your IR blaster for the appropriate number of minimum digits (probably 4), then the RTV will send channel 0072 to your Apex tuner and it should properly tune to channel 7-2
...

in the (sort of recent) thread: ReplayTV doesn't turn on Apex 502 via IRblaster

...re-enforced my belief that WiRNS would be a 'Mandatory Component' when moving forward with CECB/OTA via ReplayTV. But, as a fairly regular reader of this forum, I haven't seen much SPECIFIC information on exactly WHAT needs to be done. Months ago, I kind of remember seeing posts recommending using a 'Satellite TV Listing w/Locals' to feed WiRNS and then MANUALLY removing all of the non-OTA channels. Henry's post above refers to scraping SchedulesDirect, but AFAIK, that involves a subscription ($$$).

So, relating to mapping *ALL* Available OTA ATSC Channels (via a CECB and Line-In) for the ReplayTV...

I propose using this thread to post:
  1. What model ReplayTV you're using (i.e. 5040)
  2. What model CECB you're using (i.e. Channel Master CM-7000)
  3. What area of the USA you live in (i.e. Central NJ)
  4. How you're populating your ReplayTV Channel Guide (TBD... )
  5. What channels / sub-channels you're scheduling-to-record SUCCESSFULLY
  6. What channels / sub-channels you're NOT scheduling-to-record SUCCESSFULLY
  7. (If using WiRNS) Your WiRNS Remap File calculation (i.e. ...edit the remap file so as to renumber the channels to be the channel number times ten plus the subchannel number...)
  8. How many minimum digits your ReplayTV is sending out your IR Blaster (i.e. ...fine tune your IR blaster for the appropriate number of minimum digits...)
  9. Suggestions / Observations / Comments / etc...
Thanks!

Just to be clear, scraping and SchedulesDirect are two different guide sources. WiRNS can directly access SchedulesDirect, which basically took over the old interface that you are used to, the Zap2It interface. Due to some legal issues (as I understand it), the free Zap2It guide service was shut down and SchedulesDirect was able to provide the service as a subscription. You can read more about it at SchedulesDirect.org...

Scraping is an XML file format for feeding guide information to WiRNS. It can be acquired from such sources as MSN, which is a free source. I believe that you can probably get local stations with subchannel information from that source, but I've never used it. There is a thread on using scraping over at PlanetReplay...

I posted my instructions for that a while back in some thread. Can't remember which one, but its there....if you're interested. I did it for my own benefit, but someone seemed to need it, IIRC.

I'm just remapping the old channel numbers to the digital ones. 7 is 071, 29 is 072, etc. We have a lot of "sister station" situations here. fox/cbs and nbc/abc are both on each others sub channels.

3 minimum digits.

Works great. Had to put a cardboard block infront of my dtv boxes since I was getting IR interference from somewhere (all my equipment is in the rack in the basement). Channel changes take a bit since I could specifically NOT send the "enter" command with the IR codeset I found/installed. I have to wait for the channel change with the box. however, that means I can see when it screwed up, as I can SEE it changing the channel.
