Rage - Page 3

He could probably speak extemporaneously for a few days straight without pausing.

I do like his passion for what he does, as well as his candor regarding what happens behind the scenes.

True I agree. He's one of the few individuals in the industry that can really say what he wants when he wants and I can appreciate his professionalism as he doesn't resort to sound bytes or cheap shots. He's definitely an engineer by heart. It seems he's adapted to the Zenimax corporate culture pretty smoothly as well. I do agree with him when he says they can't keep down the path of ever longer release cycles between their games. I'm sure Zenimax does too.

Pre-ordered from Best Buy today. They were offering a 50% extra on VG trade-ins if you pre-ordered RAGE so I figured I might as well.

I hope the game is good. I've been hearing mixed things about the PC version- most recently that it will be a port with limited graphical settings. We'll see.
That's disappointing if true. I'd figure if any dev would give us the works it'd be iD. Console gaming really has dumbed down our industry. Pretty sad.
the industry as a whole is pretty sad right now imho. Between consoles limiting progress, devs releasing mediocre 5 hr campaigns and holding back content for DLC, aiming games at "casual gamers" more and more which basically means dumb them down, then there's the nonsense they are trying to pull off with the used market. I could go mention more but we all know this.

I do not have a lot of faith in ID to create a great single player story game. They may have created the genre in a way with Doom (although the first real First person game was Ultima Underworld) but sometimes being first is enough. They never impressed me with their engines as much as the Unreal one. The first Quake Engine was miserable and couldn't even show water and fire effects properly. Unreal could. Even Turok at the time on a N64 was more impressive then Quake1. ID tends to talk the talk, but their games end up disappointing most times. According to X-Play Rage is supposed to look fantastic, but I keep seeing people comment on the PC version being held back, so I'm not getting my hopes up

I have a good feeling about this game delivering a fun experience.

With a 25GB install, it will take a big chunk out of a 120GB SSD.
In this case having a retail disc will be an advantage (even though it's Steamworks).

I'll take 5 hour games over 10-20 hour games any day. What was the last game I finished? Goldeneye for the n64. Give me a 5 hour game for $30 and I may pay for it on release day instead of waiting for it to be a Steam weekend deal for $15.

I must be getting old at 33.

I'm 34 and I feel the opposite. For every Bulletstorm with it's short campaign I'll take a Fallout 3 or Skyrim with their almost endless hours of entertainment. As I have limited time to enjoy games I want the most out of them, something I don't get with most games. I'd rather spend a few hours a week with a game like Fallout New Vegas since I can invest time into the story at my own pace. It's not over before I got started.

I'm 36, and I actually care about value and getting the most for my dollar. 5 hr campaigns = getting raped. Dev's taking multiple years to make a 5hr campaign shouldn't exist.

Pathetic. But I don't have attention deficit disorder

Bottom line, I'll rent 5 hr campaigns. I'll buy and even preorder something like Skyrim.
Definitely a fan of the longer campaigns. They make 'casual' games for just the sort that want a short game.

Depends on the type of game. A game like bulletstorm feels good at 6 hours. I love getting lost in Fallout for hours as well. Just different experiences.

I don't really like SP games. I'm all about killing people online! Though there are a few games that I will buy just for the SP like Deus EX and RAGE will be another.
I'm 42 and haven't the slightest idea what any of you guys are talking about.
Can't wait to see the engine it will be running on. Hopefully they licence it out to other developers to use(most likely will). I am gettin sick of seeing UT3 engine for almost every game released in the last couple years.
I hope this game works in 3D, i have my doubts, since might be opengl based. I actually prefer my 46" 3D TV at 720p from 2- 3 ft away than my 2560-1600 Dell monitor in that old fashioned 2D they used to use.

I would expect this to support at least nVidia's 3D implementation- they're pretty much up to snuff on the new 3D games.

Pre-loaded and looking forward to Raging!!
Yep its getting to that time of year again. So many games to choose from now. I am still working on Dead Island and preordered BF3. Rage looks interesting..if I dont pick it up now, I will in the future for sure.
Whoo boy. Am I glad I didn't pre-order on Steam. According to all the posts I've read the PC version is bad, bad, bad. I mean, so bad it's unplayable. Tons of pop-in (Tech5 engine), graphical issues, totally unplayable. I guess now we know why all the preview copies were 360 versions.

Time to get my $5 reserve back from Best Buy.

Where did you see these posts?

Things like excessive pop-in should be easy enough to fix through a patch if ID cares about the inevitable outcry.

It will probably be a week before I try it.
NeoGAF, Steam forums, etc.

LOL!

Yes, they will inevitably patch it, but why does it get to the point where it has to be? If it is a problem that everyone sees (apparently this seems to be the case) Carmack must have signed off on it, either that or he cares little about QC of the PC version. Kind of sad really. I'm not going to pay $60 for that.

That does look bad. The common problem seems to be textures loading slowly to their highest detail, even textures that are right in front of you. Such a problem may be able to be fixed at the graphics card driver level.

I just saw the video that you later uploaded. It looked bad when viewing screenshots, but the video makes it look laughable.
Yeah, it appears RAGE is just a sloppy port of the 360 version, an incomplete one at that. Ironic thing is the 360 version is supposed to run smooth like buttah.

JC doesn't care about the PC gaming community anymore.

It's so bad it is as if ID has the game running with the expectation of the user using a graphics card with only 128MB of RAM.

Ouch...really bad. I hope that is an isolated case. I won't be buying this for the console so if the PC version sucks...no sale.
I think this has to do with new dynamic texture loading process in the id tech 5 engine and is probably misconfiguration in the release. I seem to remember some discussion of this at Quakecon.

But I would have hoped that they take the final released build as packaged for retail and load and run it, and download and run it as well.
Doesn't matter. I ain't buying it, especially not in the state it's in. Steam sale for $10 is imminent. At least my pre-order was only $5.

Which brings us to Skyrim which is also a Bethesda release- the 360 is the leading platform here once more. This concerns me- I'll never pre-order a PC relelase again.
Yikes. Glad I resisted the preorder last night.

Still interested but I'm gonna wait this one out for a patch or two.
