The 807 sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth- if you spend about $850 for a new unit today, you would expect it to work without the frustration of aspects of it being semi-functional or not functional at all- and that unfortunately is a testimonial to the piss poor quality control at Onkyo.
The 1007 sounds like it has fewer problems, but it's still pricey at accessories, and as a refurb I would have expected whatever problems with it to be ironed out- based on what I've read here allegedly what Onkyo factory does is a more or less a cursory recondition, and I may or may not get a receiver without cosmetic flaws.
I was also considering the Denon 3310 because of usb and ethernet, but that machine appears to be an accident waiting to happen with tech support even worse than Onkyo.
So I'm back at square one which is trying to decide what brand with reliability to buy that will work straight out of the box and give me the fewest headaches- maybe that's Pioneer Elite.
You must not have been around the internet for long if you are basing your purchasing decision on the problems
reported here. This is a small microcosm of users, and power users at that, and any
issue tends to get blown out of proportion.
I had an issues when I first bought my refurb 807 directly from Onkyo, for $656 delivered, and it's been fine ever since I did a reset. Latest firmware update went quickly and smoothly, again no issues. It simply works as described, no more no less. And it sounds great doing it.
