Is there a way to turn the automatic down-mixing to 2 channel so I can enjoy the full 5.1 audio of my DVD movies to my 7.1 set up? [nothing can be found on the manual to solve my problem]

I know I shouldn't be posting this here, but I have tried it posting in another thread but unfortunately I did not get answer for quite a while already. I am just wondering if anybody here has the same problem with me.

I really need your help guys

I for one don't have a clue what you're referring to. Do you own an 807 or 180?

G'day guys
I've had my nr807 for about 10 days and everything was working fine until last night.
The HDMI output seems to have stopped working suddenly. ie It was fine two days ago and then when i turned it on yesterday i couldn't get an output to my tv (Full HD 1080p compatible).

I have 3 HDMI cables going in (PS3, Sony DVD player & XBOX360). Sound from any of these inputs still work and I can display the 807 setup menus by changing the monitor output to analog.
I have replaced the HDMI cable b/w the receiver and tv and plugged in the ps3 directly to the tv to confirm it's hdmi input is working.

I have also tried re-setting to factory defaults all to no avail.
Is this a known issue?
does anybody have any suggestion about what i can try or setting i can check/change to maybe fix this before I bite the bullet and pull out my warranty card?
thanks - Jarrod

Hi marlon1925, this a setting on the HT DVD System which suppose to connect to a Tv or monitor and not a receiver. There is no setting on the ht-z310 to turn this to DD 5.1 unless the HT DVD System has a "Digital Audio Out" jack (which it doesn't). Best you can do is set NR807 listening mode to PLII/PLIIx.

IMO, return it and purchase some speakers (or speaker package) and a separate DVD unit or Blu-ray player.

You should take it back, the HDMI board is broken.

JChin is right, that samsung ht-z310 already is a receiver and is not equipped to send audio to another receiver except 2 ch audio for tv speakers. You'll hafta us PLIIx or get a decent blu player.

Then do this...... Setup->Listening Mode Preset-> (select the source where having the problem, usually DVD/BD or CBL/SAT-> D.F.2ch-> select All Channel Stereo, Dolby PLII or any other listening mode that keeps 5 channels active with 2 channel input = no more clicking.

As posted earlier, here's the "clicking" thread:

As you say, "where there's a will" and the key to making the 807 fit into a 19 inch depth will be using velcro cable straps to keep the stiff cables held parallel to the receiver where you want them without straining the connectors. Some of the low-profile HDMI cables might help too.

same problem here. i bought the 90 degreee benders from mono after the fact. much better.

no, if you read my original post, the clicking happens in the middle of a blu-ray, in this case Matrix Reloaded dolby true HD the audio format isnt changing, it just randomly make a single click (just like the click when changing formats) it did this about 6 times during the movie, more so at the end, so my theory is it may be a heat issue.

Also, when i was playing PS3 earlier today, the unit went to standby by its self. i turned it right back on and it came up find and didnt turn off again, its very warm to the touch, about the same as the other Onkyo units ive had. I'm going to try and hook up a fan for to see if that helps.

I know these units get hot but if it is actually shutting down because of heat you either have a defective unit (get it fixed or replaced) or your unit is in a location without 'reasonable' air circulation(?).

Squeeks...sorry, I'm late to the party..... only saw the post above about "blew up" and now clicking but what you describe sounds somewhat like the heat related HDMI popping the early 606's had. IIRC people could sometimes "fix" the problem with cooling, as you propose, but also sounds like the protection circuit is trying to do it's job. Might there be any load issues on the circuit(s) for the HT gear?

Just curious, what speakers are you running? Two units in a row with problems is maybe more than coincidence.

using all JBL northridge series same speakers that my old 805 powered for 2 years

its plugged into a monster cable power center that shows 120v on the line so that shouldnt be a problem

ive had terrible luck with these 180 referb units, bricked the first from firmware update, fried the second, now this one is having issues...might needa try something different.

So how's the ventilation?

Heh, I just (belatedly) set up the Pandora function on mine. Pretty cool.

I'm able to stream as I said, but once I have a tune playing, if I turn off my TV (either via remote or the TV) it turns off the receiver. Is there a way to turn off the TV once I've navigated to my playlist, song, etc. and keep the receiver playing?

Im having the same problem. Using the remote in the way mentioned above, it still turns everything off. Any other solutions?

Its in an entertainment center that is completly open front and back, and has about an inch to an inch and a half clearence from the top of the unit to the top shelf.

The previous 180 I had for 3 weeks did not have any over heating issues, so I dont know if maybe this unit runs hotter than that one did for some reason.

You sure? My 807 gets hot on one side of the top something fierce. And I have it out in the open. One inch of clearance and I'd be looking to put exhaust fans in that puppy.

I'm sure my unit does get hot, but the previous one never got to the point where it did anything strange from being too hot i.e. powering off or whatnot...

I do know the spot you are talking about, its right above where the power plug plugs into the unit.

I talked with the guy at the retailer i bought it from, he said i could swap it out again if i wasent happy. Maybe go to a marantz unit or a new 807. Not sure what direction to take, I'd like to stick with the onkyo simply becuase of the HDMI ports available.

Now that i remember the situation more. The unit did put its self in standby when i was using my PS3, and after i turned it back on I cant remember if i ever heard the clicking noise again. So maybe it fixed itself?

+1 I really like Pandora and use it a lot...maybe 3-5 hours a day. The cable box is also parallel connected with component and analog so I can just change the TV input source from HMDI to component and "audit" the TV while Pandora still plays away ...can switch back and forth easily.

Not enough ventilation space IMO, get out a floor fan or something and blow it on high right at the thing for an entire movie that you've had problems with for a test. This, although not ideal for a long term solution, will reveal how your avr will perform under plenty of ventilation. If it performs well you should buy a cooler fan for it, if it gives you the same problems then ventilation is not your issue and you should consider replacing or buying new.

OK....got curious about this and here's the problem....you have RIHD hardware control turned on. To fix the problem, change this: Setup->Hardware Setup->HDMI-> OFF and the yellow TV On/Off button will now work independently the receiver.

BTW, this is the same control that can really mess up a firmware update.... MUST be set to OFF before an update or can brick the unit.

When I bought my Onk 180 I had never heard of Pandora. What a pleasant surprise to find I could customize my own radio stations. The quality is very good. And it is all free.

+1 on Pandora sound quality. I has listened through my iTouch a lot and also had a Denon iPod dock for my 988 but that connection was analog and a bit noisy. I was very surprised at how much better the streaming SQ was....and setting music optimizer = On helps too.

People gripe about having to listen to what Pandora want you too hear but I appreciate being exposed to artists that I never would have selected without my voting choices setting up the Genome preferences that pulled in similar music and vocals.

Whats up guys. New nr807 owner here. Just a little timid about updating the firmware in this thing. Am I naive in thinking I can simply use the latest firmware or doesn't logic apply here? Thanks.

Welcome!

And don't be timid on the firmware update. Logic does apply but it's the logic of the product and software engineers at Onkyo. If you were to read this whole thread through you would find that after the last firamware update people stopped complaining about connection dropout, clicking and a host of other things. The latest includes all fixes.

Read this first, then follow exactly and you'll be good to go:

squeeks, I would be real suspicious about your hot spot on the left rear....that's power supply teritory. The usual hot spot is on the right rear above the amp section and is especially warm if using the video processor.

I know you said the power conditioner read 120V but you didn't mention current. Your receiver might be current starved. Can you try running it from another circuit, not just another outlet, and not on the power center?
