She really, really wants this to essentially be an even swap transaction.

Ya Im justifying it by saying im getting a new warranty for an even swap. Sold my 80gb BC unit for 321

Where might I ask? I agree, unless you NEED the BC or SACD support, the slim is a good swap.

Each with pros and cons....We'll see. I'm really looking forward to the slim.

LOL..too many Martini's before dinner. True , but don't forget them fees! I just saw the bb trade-in thread. Too bad Sony won't let you trade-in AND sign up for the cc. Why would they want a doomed 60gb?

Ah...martini's...I could go for a few of those. Hey...if your serious about doing the CC thing...I did some more reading on that.

1. the first purchase doesn't need to be a Sony Style (but you can only pruchase there for a 1 time purchase before your card arrives).

2. there are some other benefits to the card to with the Sony points and I have a thread bookmarked at home that I will email on to you that give you every free way to milk that card for all it's worth.

Maybe..I could use a new Business CC. Yes..please send me that info.

So, I just got back from Gamestop. I got "Cooking Mama" for my daughter.

The girl at the counter says that a guy came in and bought a slim, opened it, and realized it was not BC, and returned it. He must have taken a hit on that one, knowing Gamestop. How the heck can you buy the slim, and not know if it's bc or not?

So she offers it to me for 10% off. I said no thanks...hmmm?

First thoughts: It's not photogenic--looks much better in person. Seems to run noticeably warmer than the larger 80gb version.

Does anyone know how to use the Bravia Sync CEC HDMI function to control the PS3's XMB menu? It is simple to get the TV and PS3 to recognize and communicate for the on/off features, but otherwise nada. Must be some trick to it...

Hmm....warmer than 80gb. How loud is the fan in comparison?

I still don't believe you guys are going to bite the bullet on the Slim. For some reason, I have a feeling that the minute you guy sell your 60gbs, some major deal is going to come out that will kinda make you wish that you still had them.

What deal, well, dogdoctor has expressed some interest in GoWIII and there are many fans out on the boards and what not that are pressing Sony and Santa Monica studios to combine/ GoW and GoWII with GoWIII as a collector's/special edition. To me, that alone would be worth hanging on to the big guys for backward's compatibility. Again, that's just me.

Another reason I'd hold off, because it's the first gen of Slims. I'd rather not play guinea pig for Sony again. Pretty much did that with the 1st gen 60gb.

*** The opinions of this post are strictly that of KingShorty and should not be taken as fact as I'm no where near 99.9% sure of anything (other than the fact that I'm going to die at some point) as some other board members. ***

I highly doubt any publisher would risk bundling a PS2 game disc with a PS3 retail game. They'll be setting them up for a world of complaints by uninformed buyers and retailers.

Hell, I just heard someone complain that SOCOM wouldn't work on their PS3 (they're not connected online).
The rumor is God of War 1 and 2 on one blu-ray disc along with the demo for Gow 3. So they'd be specifically programed to work on any PS3. I don't think it's likely to happen though.

Just though I would post Bitstreams perfectly. Noticeable difference to my ears regardless of what anyone says. Infact, it appears to sound better even through PCM. Maybe just the receiver? Onkyo 605 running KEFs in 7.1. Just thought I would add that.

The source of the rumor is from Santa Monica Studios themselves. I, myself, took an official poll that was asking which of the following special pack-ins would you want to be included in a Collector's Edition. One of the choices was God of War 1 and 2. What, exactly, they meant by that remains to be seen.

Placebo effect. What you're saying just isn't possible.

Anybody know of any places in the DC/Northern VA area selling it. Yesterday, I checked two Best Buys near Crystal City, VA with no luck.

So is 45nm RSX confirmed?? I can't tell from the pics of the chip.
Anybody knows if PS3 slim can play streamed m2ts/ts with high def audio or DTS? It would be fantastic if it does.
people believe what they want to believe. Truth be told, a human memory can not tell the difference. It plays tricks on you.

The ears aren't lying - the brain is. If you were able to A/B both signals on the fly, you could tell that they're exactly the same.

But anyone with even basic audio engineering experience would know this.

Let me clarify,

The new PS3 sounds better both bitstreaming and using PCM to my ears compared to my 60 gig. Are you saying this is impossible knowing it has different hardware to deliver the sound?
You all sure it's not just louder? The LPCM output of the HD codecs is notably quiet on the PS3.

I checked this. It seems noticeably more dynamic\\Sharp\\Crisp to me. Can anyone else comment on this? I am not saying it is not Placebo but the difference is clearly noticeable between the old and the new system.

Something else, I could have swore that it came with 2.80. Checked system update and sure enough there was an update. Ran through the process of updating, installing same as always. Checked firmware again... 2.80. Thought that was weird.

Just checked my local Best Buy here in Richmond, VA. They had a stack of about 12-15 PS3 Slims right at the front of the store.

Yes, it is impossible. By definition bitstreaming means that the PS3 is sending a lossless digital signal to your receiver, which is then decoded through a D/A and out to your speakers. If both the original and slim PS3 are in fact bitstreaming the audio, the sound will be *exactly* the same. That is the point of bitstreaming.

However, it is possible that the sound could be different using PCM if the slim PS3 uses a different D/A chip. I have no idea if it does or not.

It's improbable.

Just go with what works for you, but it's the brain, not the tech.

As said, if you could really do a A/B blind test comparison at the same time, you wouldn't be able to pick.
In a perfect world I would believe that Bitstreaming and sending PCM would sound the same. Its kind of like saying that any BD player will look the same over HDMI, is it not?

It would not surprise me if the PS3 is taking TrueHD or DTSMA and altering it in some way. Can we be 100% sure that the PS3 is internally decoding properly?
