Anyone knows if PS3 slim can play m2ts/ts with high def audio or BD ISO now that it can bitstream high def audio? Thanks,

The original PS3's look so much better imo.

thank you for this

you see so many post in the blu ray section, swearing up and down pq and aq is better than the phat. People will believe anything they want to, especially considering spending 300bux.

Yes, even on the old model PS3's I stream my Sony HD camcorder files (m2ts) with tversity strait off the camcorder with no file conversion at all.

Your HD cam m2ts do not have HD audio ie they probably have Dolby digital ac3 2.0 or even 5.1 and NOT DTS HD MA or Dolby true HD. I am specifically asking about bluray rips (m2ts with high def audio and bluray iso).

Just curious, does anyone know if the die size of the RSX chip is 45nm or 65nm?

I know it has been confirmed the Cell is 45nm.

Thanks

Currently unknown and Sony isn't telling. You'll have to wait for the latest autopsy report to find out.

Has anyone else had any success controlling their new slim unit through their TV (via CEC HDMI)?

It's 100% possible but not likely at all given the Sony-centric nature of Sony's CEC implementation.

Not only is it possible, I'm confirming it to be the case; I have my PS3 slim connected to my Panasonic V10 and when I hit viera link it turns on the PS3, I can navigate the XMB, I can use the blu-ray color buttons, the play, pause, stop, forward, and reverse buttons all work. There are also buttons to replicate other PS3 buttons like: sqaure, triangle, circle, and X. The only real PITA is that the chapter skip buttons on my V10 remote seem to be ineffective, I have to pull up the disc menu or the PS3 menu via the triangle button. Also, there is no select button (to display time and codec).

Overall, it's not bad; if they included support for the select button and next and previous chapter I would consider sticking with this and using the PS3 controller to surf the web (which I do anyway in my other HT room where I have a harmony BT to IR converter). As it stands, I will probably end up buying another BT to IR converter but with the CEC functionality perhaps I won't rush to do so.

Is it possible that the warmer temperature of the slim is due to the nature of the new plastic shell? The old units had a heavier plastic that was laminated on the outside. That wouldn't seem to me to transmit as much of the internal heat to the outside of the unit as the new casing. Also, if that's the case, then wouldn't that heat leaving through the casing actually translate to a *lower* temperature on the internal components since a lot of heat is now allowed to escape through the casing? Thoughts?

The deal is to trade your old 80 or 60 GB PS3 for the new 120GB slim, you have to pay 49.99, and trade in 2 games worth at least $8.

Is your PS3 Fat taking up too much room on your shelf? Or maybe you just want the latest and coolest upgrade from Sony...

Either way your in luck with the trade and Save promotion from GameStop.ca this week. Head into any store and trade in your old PS3 Fat console and two games to upgrade to the PS3 Slim for only $50.

I doubt the warmer temp is because of the chemical makeup of the plastic shell. But more to do with the overall shell design. The fat models have a much greater air input vent area resulting in mote cool air being pulled into the case, where as on the slim the reduced input air area results in more hot air buildup in the case.

I just received my ps3 slim and wanted to know if there was a way to make it so when you go into account management>transaction management and then into anything after that for it to require a password to change. I could of swore that on my ps3 phat for example to change the setting for "require password at checkout" you had to put in your password to change that setting. Any help would be appreciated.

Holy ****.

But I'm not getting rid of my BC 80gig, thank you very much.

I'm thinking about selling my wife's 40gb plus some extras and then putting that towards a slim. Then I'll give her my 60gb but put the Slim's 120gb in that and putting my 320gb into the Slim.

What do you guys think?

I'll do it if you give me a green card... and not just a card that has green color on it. The legit kind!

The ears aren't lying - the brain is. If you were able to A/B both signals on the fly, you could tell that they're exactly the same.

But anyone with even basic audio engineering experience would know this.

I'm getting pretty sick of seeing this crap posted by people that have not even made the effort to do any comparative listening on a real system in a real room. Theory is worthless without real world testing, and there are simply too many variable out there to make a definitive statement that bitstream delivery of advanced audio codec data to an AVR or prepro is going to result in the exact same sound as decoding in the PS3 using whatever software decoding algorithm Sony devised then sending that PCM data through any of several different HDMI chips into any of several AVRs over any of dozens of HDMI cables. It simply can't be done with any level of certainty.

But anyone with even basic audio engineering experience would know this.

Ok, I just picked up a Slim. It actually looks pretty good in person and I might even prefer it over my Phatty. The buttons are very nice and I'm not going to miss the previous touch sensitive ones. However, this thing isn't very quiet. I haven't played any games yet, but after a couple of minutes of just being on, the fan becomes quite noticeable. It's not loud by any means (about the same as my Jasper 360), but even my YLOD 60 gigger was pretty much silent for a good half hour while idling in the XMB. I will post more impressions after I restore my system.

While at Best Buy, I started talking to the sales associate in charge of the new Slim display. I mentioned to him that I was going to hang onto my old PS3 just in case BC never returns. He told me something very interesting. According to him, you can buy a "backwards compatibility chip" from Sony for $27.00 and have it soldered in. Of course I called BS on this, but the guy insisted that a Sony rep had informed him that this was factual info. I explained to him that I spent a lot of time on message boards and had never heard of anyone doing this. However, he was quite adamant about what he had told me. So guys, anyone ever heard of someone slapping in a Graphics Synthesizer chip into a non BC PS3? Mind you, he also insisted that the Slim's PSU was external.
A quick google search shows that not even modders are doing this. Your first assumption was right. No way. I also love the vagueness of "have it soldered in." By whom?

It'd be a shame if that dude's been selling that line to other customers who don't know any better.
